UT ranked 7 on ESPN Prestige Rankings
I actually found these rankings interesting, and I admit that I checked them everyday to see who was where. I was not expecting to see us till around the 1-10 range. The scoring went as followed :
National title: 25 points
Berth in one of the major bowls: 10
Major bowl win: 10
Best win/loss record in conference regular season: 10
Final AP top-5 finish: 10
Heisman winner: 8
Final AP top 6-10 finish: 6
Conference title championship-game bonus: 5
Final AP top 11-25 finish: 4
Bowl appearance: 3
Bowl win: 3
10-win season: 2
Week as AP No. 1: 2
Win over AP No. 1: 1
Each consensus All-American: 1
First-round NFL draft pick (since '70): 1
Losing season: minus-2
Each year of television ban: minus-1
Each year of postseason ban: minus-2
Each year of overall probation: minus-1
Each year of financial-aid penalty: minus-1
Each year of recruiting penalties: minus-1
Each penalty of "show cause action:" minus-2
If we hadn't got screwed over in heisman voting with VY and Colt, and if we would've gone to and won the national championship this year (like we rightfully should have) we would be 6 ahead of Alabama. I know its just a bunch of number crunching, but it is a fun read when there is no football going on right now.

"Prestige" Rankings?
Jahweh… I have a special love/hate feeling for ESPN. Baseball Tonight = Awesome. Gameday = Awesome. College Football Live = M’eh…
Prestige Rankings is right up there with the “Who’s Now” rankings and Lou “I’m representing Tim Tebow” Holtz.

I don't know, man
This upcoming Mt. Rushmore thing will probably fall in between Who’s Now and Lou Holtz.

Really Dated Accomplishments for Some
Looks as if Nebraska, OU, Nebraska, and Notre Dame would make up 4 of the last 5. Who the heck would be the 5th? Was Miami listed?

Sounds about right.
They have the most National Championships. They’ve won many conference championships, etc.
Winning is all that matters.

OU Doesnt Deserve it
I’ve seen mathematical rankings placing us ahead of OU. Oklahoma is a dirty program in a worthless, empty, dirty state who’s claim to fame lies in the ruins of trailer parks. I don’t care where they put us: this is the same network that brought us the Most “Now” Athlete. Are you kidding me? They also designated some hicksville in Georgia “Titletown USA”. I don’t think anything these people say anymore means anything. If SI wants to do a ranking, then would they please do one? They are fair and I’m sure that they would place a higher penalty on Oklahoma’a EIGHT ncaa infractions. That’s a record, by the way. I know in my heart that Austin is a better place to live and to visit and to drive through than Norman, I know that Texas is the greatest state in the history of the planet and that Oklahoma is empty and worthless. I know that the University of Oklahoma is an embarrassing university with no good academic qualities, while the University of Texas is one of the best public schools in the country. They can have their no-class, sister-groping, ref-chasing Switzers. I for one am content with quiet, classy, kind men that we have in Mack and Darrell.

It's ironic then that both Mack and Darrell
coached at OU. I’m sorry I just find it funny that OU steals players from Texas and Texas steals coaches from OU, though Mack was at UNC first. Not sure about Royal.

It has nothing to do with bias
The whole ranking is based on math and numbers. If you read the post above at all points are awarded for national championships, bowl finishes, Heismans, top 5 finishes etc. They also deduct points with cheating. Its just that OU has historically had a more succesfull program. They have more national titles, more Heisman winners, and more conference titles. The prestige rankings aren’t based on who has a better town or better people in it. You just sound bitter in your post. It really doesn’t matter anymore what ESPN has to say. Their act has gotten old and people are catching. All these gimmicks are getting ridiculous and people are ignoring them.
You are just an idiot pal. I love how you stereotype everybody. You sound really intelligent in your post pal. You are a moron. Also, give up on state pride pal. Its overrated and this isn’t the 1860s. Nobody cares about state pride. I’m American first, second, and third. Get in the 21st century pal. The only people that care about state pride is dumb, ignorant, old southerners who still believe that the South got screwed in the Civil War. Thats why the South (East of Texas) is such shit hole of a region. Its a poor region where the only thing they can hang their hats on to is their stupid conference. That’s why the region is so economically bad because they still bitch about the civil war. The reason all those fans chant SEC is because they know their football programs are inferior to USC, Texas, OU, FSU, Miami, Notre Dame, Michigan, etc. and the way to justify their programs general mediocrity is by having the excuse of their conference being to difficult.
I find it so amusing when people bitch about people from Texas leaving to go play college ball at another state. Who cares where they go? They are going because they want a chance to play somewhere else or like the school better. Grow up and get over this stupid and childish thing called state pride. Besides we all no that California is the best state in the country anyway. The wealthiest, smartest, most tolerant, and has the best public universities in the country.

California is really awesome if you like desert
and people that are extremely intolerant people. They think their way of thinking is the only correct one and if you have differing views then you are stupid. The point is you took a small comment about about Texas being great and blew up with it. There is nothing wrong with having state pride, especially when you are comparing yourself to your bitter rival, IE Oklahoma. You completely destroyed your own arguments about the SEC teams, and then your whole California spill is infinitely more moronic then a UT fan showing his love for his state. And thats bull crap about state pride, every one still has it. Have you socialized with anyone lately. It might not be the same as it used to, when the federal government didn’t have as much power as it does now, but it is still there. Normally I’d get your back on the stereotyping arguments, but not when it is filled with tons of contradicting statements. I’d rather be around a lot of good spirited kind people filled with Texas pride, then the wealthy smug better than you are people you find in California. I know not all of California is like that, but those are the things you were claiming in your post.
As for the OU argument, they are a dirty team and should be punished more for it when it comes to these kind of rankings. I agree that the rankings are done in a non biased way, but there should be more punishment for 8 different infractions. Although I think their embarrassing moments on the big stage as of lately is enough punishment for me.

I was being a little bit sarcastic with the california comments
I was kinda of being sarcastic about the comments with California. I don’t see how my comments about the SEC contradict myself except me generalizing the whole region as a bunch of dumb, bible beating red necks. Maybe I was a little over the top, but the reason they chant the SEC is so true. Its insecure fans of mediocre programs who started it. They were trying to make excuses why their programs have sucked so they blame their conference being too tough. Then when Auburn got left out in ’04, it officially became popular. Then when Gary Danielson got on CBS it just took over and everybody bought in to it.

Yeah I figured that about the California comments
But the fact of the matter was that it was a silly comment just like the Texas is the greatest comment (even though I agree) that was made to show fan loyalty. You just take a huge tangent off of it. And that was exactly what I meant by SEC comments.
You are just an idiot pal. I love how you stereotype everybody. You sound really intelligent in your post pal. You are a moron …blah blah state pride … The only people that care about state pride is dumb, ignorant, old southerners who still believe that the South got screwed in the Civil War. Thats why the South (East of Texas) is such shit hole of a region. Its a poor region where the only thing they can hang their hats on to is their stupid conference. except me generalizing the whole region as a bunch of dumb, bible beating red necks
Just read your first sentence of the first quote real well and then your next quote and you will see exactly what I mean.
Other than that I agree with your argument against the SEC. At the same time they are a bad ass conference, but what irks me is that they won’t acknowledge any other conference as anything.

Please prove with facts to confirm your above, ridiculously stupid post. Serioulsy, prove it. I think its about time you face reality: The University of Oklahoma has achieved more than University of Texas, thus OU>UT. In fact, DKR is an OKIE! Deal with it. 45-35….. How far did that get the UT fanbase and alumni?? If anything, the plane flying over Stillwater gave the pilot more flying hours. Overall, I love seeing UT fans in discontent. Its great to be a Sooner……..BOOMER! -————————39-33 :)

OU has losses on the season. Texas has one. There’s absolutely no case to be made that OU was more than the second best team in the Big 12 during 2008 or more than the fourth or fifth best in the nation.

Why is it....
that OU fans use a score to a game they didnt play, and probably got on their knees and prayed to Switzer for, to taunt us. I wonder if he was one of the 11 that showed up when the OU plane landed, or was he busy washing his hair??

Why don't you prove you assertion?
I think its about time you face reality: The University of Oklahoma has achieved more than University of Texas, thus OU>UT.
The fact is you can’t, for a number of reasons, 1st your a sooner, 2nd “achieved” is a relative term-(Texas has more wins, Texas has more wins head to head, Texas has fewer NCAA violations, what specifically do you want to achieve-greates cheats of all time- congrats). 3rd your still a sooner.

I prefer to look at the modern era...
which for me is 1960 and beyond. Let’s look at the numbers:
Bama – 8
USC – 7
ND, Miami, Neb – 5
Horns, tOSU, OUsux – 4
FLA – 3
Penn St, Mich St – 2
Mich, Minn, Pitt, GT, FSU, Tenn, Co, GA, BYU, Clem – 1
If one would like to look at history, then Yale is the all time powerhouse with 18 national titles, most coming in the 19th century. We all know this to be not the case. Most impressive to me is FLA winning 3 titles in 13 years and Miami’s 5 in 26 years.

Having lived in both places...
If tolerance is not caring, then yes, that is CA. They are busy people and simply do not have the time to get to know their neighbors like the people here in Texas. I lived in Orange County and still have a home in Mission Viejo. They love their weather (who doesn’t) and they love their Trojan football, which makes it all the better cruising around town with a Longhorn Auto Emblem next to your CA plates…USC fan just hates UT, not the other way around. In my opinion, USC should be number 1. Nine titles, a revamped program which is a perennial contender, a classy coach, tremendous quality of life, and a solid private institution for academia. What I find most impressive however, is Miami’s 5 titles since 1983…I believe no other school has more than 3 since that time.
