Kennard to Announce Tuesday
I thought this was a little more important then just a fan shot so I posted it here.
This comes a day after UT assistants Will Muschamp, Bobby Kennedy and Oscar Giles took a visit to Pheonix. USC had sent their new DC and D-line coach to visit him earlier in the week as well. Cal is the other team in the running but are believed to be out of the race.
“I’m not rushing myself at all. I haven’t through all of this. But I’m ready to know,” he said.
Kennard maintained it’s still a three-team race between Texas, USC and Cal.
The five-star defender and his family will discuss his options again this weekend, as they’ve done over the past few months. According to Kennard’s brother, Derek, it’s an extremely difficult decision for Devon because he knows he can’t go wrong with any of his three finalists.

Everyone over on Orangebloods seems to think USC.
But i just find it funny that Texas had coaches in phoenix yesterday and then he decides today that he will make a decision on Tuesday.
Just saying.

What I find funny is that he is going to stick to local media, no ESPN press conference?

If we get Kennard
that makes 5 DEs in this class. Is it possible that Kriegel and Jones slide down to tackle?
Garrett Gilbert: 2014 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year
Mims might as well.
Cripes, now I’m going to be holding my breath all weekend.

I have heard mims will probably be at DT when it is all said in done
Would not be suprised to see Kriegel Slide over either.
But we also have two really good DTs in this class too.

I don't mind that kind of talent coming of the edge in a Kindle type position.

There are also 2 stud DEs in Texas next year
Jackson Jeffcoat and Reggie Wilson.
Some think if we land Kennard we miss out on Jeffcoat

We already have one son of a former Dallas Cowboy lineman
Why not go for 3?

True
If we lose Kennard he ends up at USC, if we lose Jeffcoat he probably goes north to OU. So take your pick
Jeffcoat is a junior in high school!

You have a point.
Who knows, Kennard may be more of a Kindle type player. Jeffcoat is more of an Orakpo type player.
Will be very interesting to see how all this plays out

If Jeffcoat doesn't come to Texas, he will go to USC. Count on it.

Jeffcoat
we have very little shot at Jeffcoat. barring some very significant change in his views, he’ll be an OU lock. he’s seen sporting OU gear quite often.
Jeffcoat has offers from: Georgia, LSU, Stanford, TAMU, OU, Nebraska, Notre Dame, and USC
Jeffcoat does NOT have an offer from: Texas
Kinda surprising.

Upon further review...
I checked every player in Texas who is on the entire Rivals 250 To Watch list for 2010, and not one is listed as having an offer from Texas. I think it’s safe to say UT has a policy of some sort, and that these guys will get their offers fairly soon.
Man, it seems like there must’ve been 40 guys on that list from Texas. Lots of DTs in the class, too.

Texas offers
its fairly well documented that Texas does not make offers to recruits until Mack has met with them. Some feel it hasnt been the best practice. But it makes an offer from Texas all that more special. We dont carpet bomb every recruit in the top 250 like A&M does.
Offers more than likely will happen after Junoir Days on Feb 8th
From what I read Jeffcoat will be attending
Correct
If anyone remembers, when Muschamp was appointed coach in waiting. Mack Brown said, “So many already want to commit”. Or something similar to that. I guess it is policy that they do not offer until after signing day.
This 2010 class should be really good!

Jeffcoat would be awsome
But imagine the rotation (Muschamp in charge) Okafor, Mims, Kennard, Jeffcoat, next year or in two years! Wow. Look what Muschamp did with Orakpo in one year, imagine what he can do with two five star recruits and two four stars for 2-3 years!
If we can land one of the two
out of Jeffcoat and Wilson I think that will be fine. We are brining in a stud class at DE this season and will not need much next season.
I expect Wilson to commit on junior Day, Jeffcoat will probably draw it out and it may even be a signing day decision.

we have very little chance with Jeffcoat.
we will likely land wilson. but jeffcoat is heading north to OU.
to be fair
Rak was already tearing it up before muschamp ever stepped foot in austin. His #‘s weren’t outstanding but that’s because he spent just about his entire junior year banged up.
In the summer leading up to his junior year Mack declared Rak the best DE he had had at texas yet.
Agree though, there is certainly a lot of talent on its way in and hopefully muschamp continues to utilize the skill his defensive players have to offer.
Kennard said this to Wearesc.com
“I felt a real good home environment from Texas, it’s a big program, a big state and it’s an awesome opportunity. But if I went there, I would be leaving the Pac-10 and it’s a little farther from home. That’s pretty much the only negative there.”
On USC, “It’s very similar (to Texas), but it’s closer to home. They have a really good coaching staff and a really good winning program. But you have to look at the coaching attrition and things like that.”
And on Cal, “I really feel like I have a good relationship with the coaches at Cal. It’s a good situation for me to walk into and the education there is obviously the awesome. All three schools offer a great education, but I think it’s fair to say Cal has the best education system. But they want to alter my position to a 3-4 defensive end/linebacker type of deal. Cal is the only school to say I’m a 3-4 guy.”
That does not sound to great
Sounds like Cal to me. But I have heard all over the place with this guy. It would not suprise me to see him go to any of these schools. I obviously want him to go to Texas but all three schools are good schools. And he has handled this process exceptionally well.

he sounds like a good kid
Every time I see a quote with his name attached to it I find myself nodding along agreeing with what he has to say. I’m not going to get my hopes up too high but I think the horns have a pretty solid chance at landing him and if they do I think they’re getting a kid who has got the entire package…
Yeah, I think Kennard’s a good kid. I won’t have any problem with him, even if he goes to USC. Heck, I would’ve only been slightly irked with McFarland’s defection had it not been for the Thayer hit job.

Who’s visiting, besides Cobi Hamilton?
by burntorangehorn on Jan 25, 2009 5:19 PM CST up reply actions
There’s an article up on OB and others, but I don’t have a subscription.
Here’s what he said in basically the only article I could find on it:
Gadsden defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick — the state’s top prospect in many circles — drove with his family all the way to Austin, Texas this weekend to visit with Will Muschamp and the Longhorns.
Kirkpatrick told Texas’ Rivals site Orangebloods.com, “It was a great visit. I was blown away. It’s going to be a tough decision.” He is yet another Tide target planning to wait until Feb. 4.

Weekend Visitors
Dre Kirkpatrick, Jarvis Jones and Cobi Halmilton were all expect to visit this weekend. But Garrett Gilbert and Paden Kelly took there official visits as well.
For the most part they went well. Not really much to take away but all three said they had a good trip. Paden Kelley said he did do a little recruiting of the other three guys.
Kirkpatrick drove down with his family, which is about a 13 hour drive.
Nothing really “Eye-Popping”. A lot of people are saying Jarvis Jones will eventually end up at Texas. Evidently the staff likes its chances with Kennard, and have not heard anything negative from him at all. Kirkpatrick is still looking like Bama. And we should Expect Hamilton to decide soon, most say he will be at Texas too.
Just what I have heard from posters over on rivals.

Well, tomorrow’s the big day for Kennard. I’ve been expecting a shutout as far as the remaining top 100 (including offered recruits Jones, Kennard, and Kirkpatrick), but it’d be a pleasant surprise to get one or more of them. This class would be cemented in the top five if two of them were to commit.

Reported on Orangebloods that Kennard will go with USC
Did not want to make a post of it but it looks like he will go with USC tomorrow Morning.
Evidently he informed the coaching staff sometime in the last 24 hours.
Not exactly official yet, but things do not look good for Texas with this one.

Anyone else think Kennard and McCoy were brothers seperated at birth?
It would be a shame for them not to reunite at DKR.

It's official
Scout has Kennard listed as USC. Good luck to this young man who seems to be a class act.
