It's Official: Kennard To USC ($)
As reported by Orangebloods yesterday, five-star defensive end chose USC over Texas and Cal. Best of luck to the kid, who seems like a class act.

I'm thinking....
I shouldn’t get excited about Texas football recruiting when there is only two months left. It always seems like I get disappointed. I know we still have an outside shot at Dre Kirkpatrick and Jarvis Jones…but again, like Kennard this year and Darrell Scott last year…..I’m probably just going to get disappointed. I’m happy we got Tevin Mims and might snag Cobi Hamilton, but still, I’d like for us to be better at recruiting out-of-state talent too.

No use crying over spilled milk, we have plenty of talent on the roster on coming in this year. So he is a five-star recruit, he didn’t want to play for Texas and that wasn’t Macks fault. Not everyone grows up and wants to be a Longhorn like the BON and we have to realize that.
Don’t get caught up in the stars. Remember what we thought Scott was going to do, go to a program and just run wild and that was far from the truth.

Recruiting
If Mack is so good at it why can’t we get and 5Stars from anywhere except Texas? Why do we lose so many of them to other schools? What are our chances with Kirkpatrick and Jones?

Incentives
You have to remember that Mack goes out of his way to do things by the book, as he should. I know Texas may not be squeaky clean (I think we are) but if Mack knows about it, it’s clean. Other programs tend to offer “incentives.” I don’t think this is what got Kennard, but usually 5-star recruits have a lot of “incentives” thrown their way. We will always want the early commits and the kids who dreamed of playing in burnt orange because those are the athletes we want representing Texas.
speaking of...
Is anything ever going to become of the obvious violations that took place with Reggie Bush while he was at SC (whether they be against the program or just Bush)? Also the whole OJ Mayo thing… It seems like some day soon that school should have to answer to the NCAA one way or another.
They have to many alumni in powerful positions is my guess.
The Bush family doesn’t deny the gifts but still nothing.

For a second there I thought we’d ventured back into politics.

He grew up in pac 10 country wanting to play pac 10 ball.
Some times no matter how great of a program we have to offer there are certain obstacles that cannot be overcome. The fact that we got into the conversation at all with this kid speaks volumes about how great a job the staff does at recruiting.
Just like everyone else I wouldn’t mind seeing us get out a little bit more often and grab a big time out of state recruit but as long as Mack continues to lock down Texas I don’t think that any of us should really complain too much.
Big Deal...
So we lost Kennard to USC. I’m one Longhorn fan who’s not going to lose sleep over this. EYESOFTEJAS hit the nail on the head. Let’s not get caught up in star rankings. From all the signs last year, Colorado is pulling itself out of the gutter and a back like Scott (top -rated RB last year) could get lost in the shuffle and may never be a big time player again. I personally feel that Kennard made the wrong decision given that USC just replaced their D-Coordinator and Mushamp is just shaping into year two. But Kennard made the pick that apparently suits him best. Wish him all the well and success at USC. Hook ’Em Horns and OU Sucks (especially in big games.)

Kennard said in his announcement that he wants to make an impact as a freshman... how about getting on the field first!
That may not have happened at UT.

Why wish him well?
I’m not hoping he’ll break a leg or anything, but I hope every player that does not pick UT, especially one who selects another team at the last minute, has a dismal football career in college.

last minute?
You know signing day is next week, right? He had local news coverage, not the overdrawn ESPN media; he didn’t pretend to put on one school’s hat, and switch it to another. He wanted (imo) to be closer to home. I think he handled it well and that’s why most of us don’t have sour grapes over it.

Jeffcoat and Wilson
Jeffcoat is an OU lean from what I’ve heard. People keep saying they see him around wearing OU gear.
No clue about Reggie Wilson.
I would like to think we have a good shot at one of them. We already know we’re going to recruit them like crazy so here’s to good fortune!!

Wilson seems more likely to commit
early and he will probably receive an offer. I’ll continue doing position reviews for 2010 and projects who gets offered and such like but they won’t be done before the junior day. As for Jeffcoat, I hadn’t heard that about the OU gear, which isn’t good news for Longhorn fans. Wilson is still quite a talent, though.

thats the word on Jeffcoat
whats been circulated up here in Dallas anyway. there hasnt been reasons associated with his favoring of OU, but it has been fairly well established that it is the case.
OU recruits north Dallas pretty well.
I'll concede west plano
If it means that Texas continues to take the East Plano athelties like J. Blalock and Keenan Robinson.
In the event that Jeffcoat were to end up at Texas I’ll find it within myself to support him but being a native of Plano I really have a tough time getting behind the students of west plano who grow up in the laps of luxury.
Wish the best to Kennard
Wish he could be at Texas but you don’t get everything you want. So Just have to wish him the best and hope we don’t play him anytime soon.

Well that stinks.
Texas has to land one of these guys.
The class is pretty good right now but I would like to see one more name on the list. Although 2010 is looking really really nice!
