Bad Bowl Games
So far the bowl season has been massively disappointing...and BORING. Missouri, Kansas, Texas Tech, Nebraska and Oklahoma State have all disappointed with either a loss or a by-the-skin-of-your-teeth win. It's been an embarrassment to the Big 12. Stands have been noticably empty at many of these bowls. Allowing the Pac 10 and SEC appear to be competitive / dominant is just adding insult to injury.
As usual, TEXAS has been all but ignored by the media. The lag days after New Years' had only 2 interesting bowl games and the pro playoffs on Sat/Sunday haven't helped. I was particularly annoyed to see ABC/ESPN touting every bowl game with all the times/dates etc. until the upper echelon games began and the other networks kicked in. Then, FOX predictably, went straight to plugging the BCS Florida v. Oklahoma game and the pro playoffs, so predictably, we only get 1 evening of heavy promo after the first real work day of 2009 to draw the audience. Let's hope Horn fans traveled well. The media is doing all it can for Oklahoma.
This is a direct result of the draw. Texas drew a #10 Seed for the Fiesta Bowl. After seeing the game Utah gave Alabama, I just can't help but wonder how we could not get a better matchup than a lousy #10 seeded Ohio State. It's just sickening.
TEXAS NEEDS TO POUND THIS TEAM BY AT LEAST 40 POINTS TO MAKE IT'S OWN POINT. EVEN THEN, IT MAY NOT MATTER, EVEN THEN SINCE THE MEDIA WILL HAVE 3 WHOLE DAYS TO FORGET ABOUT IT... BUT THE RECRUITS WON'T.
The Horns scored 52 points in many of its games this season. I'd love to see us run it up to about 65 but 50 seems to be the high water mark before Mack pulls the plug and says "no mas".
THIS GAME IS NOW FOR THE 2009 RECRUITING WAR AND TEXAS BETTER HAVE ITS WITS ABOUT THEM. WE CANNOT AFFORD A POOR SHOWING. WE NEED TO DOMINATE FROM START TO FINISH AND FORGET ABOUT "NO MAS". I'D SETTLE FOR A 38-0 SKUNKING IF WE PITCH A SHUTOUT, BUT I NEVER COUNT ON THAT. IF YOU'RE LIKE ME, YOU NEVER LIKED OHIO STATE, ANYWAY.
GO, HORNS, GO!!!

I'm an SEC fan
and I DON’T think the bowl season has been an embarrassment to the Big XII. 3-2 overall, 2-3 against the spread. Kansas and Nebraska had nice, solid wins.
There seemed to be a perception that the Big XII South was on par with the top of the Big 8 in 1995 (4 top 10 teams, 4 bowl wins and Nebraska as one of the great teams of all-time). As I have mentioned previously, that isn’t the case. But it’s still the best division in football (by a good margin) with 4 legitimate top 20 teams.
You want embarrassment—watch the Big Ten. Terrible non-conference schedule (only 13 BCS teams by 11 teams this year), don’t beat anybody good on that schedule, and then get waxed during the bowl season (6-15 in their last 21).

If you believe you are going to touch 40 points on Ohio State, well, you are going to be massively disappointed tomorrow.

and that's based on what?
In OSU’s last 3 games against out of conference bowl teams: 35 to USC, 38 to LSU, and 41 to Florida. And I think this offense is better than all 3 of those teams.
I’m not saying it’s going to happen, but that’s a hell of a pronouncement.

I'm sorry
but if you think we are going to blow out Ohio State you are mistaken.
They have a lot to prove tomorrow, and lets face it, this is twice the team that played USC earlier in the year, and they aren’t playing at Texas.
.
Time for a playoff.

After the whole tie break thing, I couldn't care less what the Big 12 looks like
Most knowledgeable college football fans, even if they do doubt the Big 12’s overall strength, know that Texas and OU had great teams this year.

Oh, please.
We scored 45 against OU. I despise OU. Ohio State is no OU. We had a terrible first half against Tech and were still 1 second away from a perfect season and still you doubters would rather listen to the media talk up the other team because they want ratings. Texas is better than any other team in the land, including Tebow and Florida. Too bad we don’t get to prove it. Ohio State is a shadow of what it was as is Michigan, Penn State and the rest of the so-called Big Ten. There’s a reason they’re #10. They’re overmatched, period. They’ve beaten no one this year. They barely beat a #18 Wisconsin and a #20 and #24 team. They lost to the only two respectable opponents they had — Penn State and USC and you saw what SC did to Penn State. Get real.
As for recent bowl facts and history, I refer you to an objective Canadian Press story from 2 days ago: “Ohio State Buckeyes hope to reverse Big Ten bowl slump against Texas – Jan 2, 2009.” The link is available below if you wish to peruse it.

I hope our team doesn't have that attitude.
Time for a playoff.

Basically, I agree with you, Hook'em13.
However, in looking at cfbstats for tOSU tonight, I would be pushed toward 1214’s optimism.
Second, there was this great T-shirt shown on KXAN’s sports section about a Horn rally in Arizona this evening that said something definitive about our attitude.
The orange T-shirt said on the front: We’re not snobs
On the back it said: We’re just better than yOU.
Time to sleep. Tomorrow is gonna be a great day.

LonghorninCanada has to approve all Canadian Texas football stories.
Even if it is obliquely about Texas. Unless they just wrote the story for him.
In that citation there is an unusual statement from a wide receiver.
“I can’t put a finger on it,” Buckeyes receiver Brian Hartline said.
Of course, he was talking about the inability of the Big 10/11 to win bowls games recently.
DKR’s quote to Walt Garrison is probably appropriate for that situation…to paraphrase: “they just aren’t any good.”
