biggest concern

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but I think my biggest concern is that I’ll forget the game is on. Is there anyone else who just isn’t feeling any excitement or anticipation for this game? My apathy towards the entire bowl season has spilled over to include Texas.

I'm pretty damn excited

Then again, we’re leaving for the game in twenty minutes. This is a chance to beat a storied program, who cares if its been a down year for them or not.

well

If I were there, it would be one thing. But we get a chance to beat a storied program every October, so I don’t see what makes this any more special. Plus, we’ve already split two games with them in the last few years.

Fair enough

But this is the rubber match, and with the slim chance that Texas plays Ohio State again at any point in 10 years, its bragging rights. And I’ve got Ohio State friends, so I can enjoy this one for a bit.

I had been feeling so so about todays game, until this morning.
I was unable to attend the game because I had to be back at the office today. No biggie.
Last night, as I was looking for what to wear this morning, I didn’t hesitate one second in picking out my favorite slacks and my burnt orange nike gameday polo.

I immediately told my self, I love being a longhorn…even after we got screwed and this terrible bowl season. I’m just glad there’s one more UT game, and glad I got to wear my polo (for a game) one last time this season. Now I cant wait to get off work and have me a cold brew and cheer for our football team. sidebar - field conditions a factor?

Does anyone have any idea if they intend on using the same turf tonight that was used Saturday for the Cardinals/Falcons game? They said that the turf was new for that game, but it got shredded up pretty good. That stadium has a removable grass turf on a tray, but you couldn’t see a spare field surface from any of the aerial shots.

My only concern is that a sloppy field will favor tOSU’s running game and defense…

Mind If I Join?

I’m a Gators fan, so take this with a boulder of salt, I guess. Here goes:

  • Final Score: Texas 28, Ohio State 24 (eerily enough, that’s the same score as UT’s game against the other OSU)
  • Total Yards: Texas 507, Ohio State 487 (this includes return yardage)
  • Rushing Yards: Texas 146, Ohio State 132 (this might be high if the defenses can bottle-up/pressure the QBs)
  • Passing Yards: Texas 232, Ohio State 207 (this parity will be the surprise of the game)
  • Game Offensive MVP: Quan Cosby (he’s the best player on the UT offense and it’s his time to shine)
  • Game Defensive MVP: Brian Orakpo (I think he should feast on the Buckeye offensive tackles)
  • Biggest concern – for a Texas fan, Pryor effectively neutralizing the Longhorn pressure with his mobility; for an Ohio State fan, excessive YAC for the Longhorn receivers.

P.S.: I could see the Buckeyes eeking out an upset, but I could also see the Longhorns winning comfortably. I think this will be a better game than most people expect and I look forward to watching it tonight. Good luck!

The Verdict...

Final Score: Texas 37, Ohio State 17

Total Yards: Texas 425, Ohio State 327

Rushing Yards: Texas 165, Ohio State 130

Game Offensive MVP: Colt McCoy

Game Defensive MVP: Texas Longhorns D, but if I have to pick one S. Kindle

Biggest concern for a Texas Fan: Texas D trying to overplay

Biggest concern for a Ohio State Fan: Texas Defensive Line

Final Verdict: I could see Texas coasting in this game if they play like they have all year. This game reminds me a lot of the Baylor game. Quality QB who doesn’t make too many mistakes and can burn you with his legs. I don’t think Wells will be a problem, but I can see Pryor maybe breaking loose on a few plays to rack up some rushing yards. But all in all I see Texas containing Ohio State and forcing Pryor and St. to become one dimensional and allowing Texas to only rush 4 and 5 on obvious passing downs when Kindle is the 5th line rusher. Hook ’Em Horns!

In a Drewmonsta's defense

52-10 was our mode this year, and thus holds special significance, I dont think it was intended as a specific Buckeye knock.

Right

I’m just saying, for a while now, irregardless of opponent, a popular prediction for any score was 52-10 around here, because of the improbable number of times we got the exact same score to start the season.

If we were playing Utah, Bama, Florida, or anyone, someone would predict the score of 52-10, thats all I mean to illustrate.

Total Yards: Texas 498 Ohio State 306

Rushing Yards: Texas 136 Ohio State 90 (I really feel we will shut down Wells)

Game Offensive MVP: Colt Mccoy (honorable mention to Cosby)

Game Defensive MVP: Blake Gideon (karma)

Biggest concern for: A Texas fan: Obviously Wells, but I’m a bit more worried about focusing too much on the run and letting Pryor make some big plays.

An Ohio State fan : The obvious is Colt Mccoy and his receiving corp, but watch our for Mcgee/Obgonnaya.

I feel its going to be a low scoring first quarter, and Ohio State will effectively disrupt Colt and the offense until midway through the 2nd quarter, and when we establish the running game, it will take pressure off colt and he will have a career day.

Does anyone think this is going to be a close game? It’s kind of annoying when everyone I know is expecting a blow-out. Sorta makes this a lose-lose game.

Just wanted to say good luck tonight

Though I don’t think you need it. I’m a Tech guy and we and Okie State really stunk up the conference’s bowl record. I have no doubt you will win by 17+ tonight and I’m really excited about watching your D-Line kill Beanie.
I don’t think UT will come out flat, because your coaching staff prepares and your kids are used to playing in “Big Games.” If you do fall behind early, your players don’t get frazzled. GO Horns, Beat OSU. I’m proud to be in the same conference as all of y’all this week.

Plano Jeff

My sister and her husband and their kids went to Tech. I went to Texas long ago. I was rooting for Tech over Ole Miss. Sorry about the outcome. We needed you guys to win to uphold the old Southwest Conference. Good to see TCU, Houston and Rice victories. I don’t care that much about Okies.
