Congratulations to the '08 seniors, Mack Brown, and all the Texas Longhorns. Just a phenomenal season...
We'll talk game details and season review soon, but for now, a round of The Eyes of Texas, yes?

Reasonable Conclusion
The final score was an elaborate plan to Texas Tech tOSU. McCoy and Quan wanted to end the game on a last second touchdown pass.
That’s the only reasonable explanation.

Definately agree
I was so hoping that Quan would get that award, then I hoped Colt would at least mention Quan.
By the way, I hope we never play Terrelle Pryor again.
wow. simply. wow.
i took my game beer to a local bar, that which i thought would be safe because it was all known people and everything would be understood as normalcy… well not so much. the story to persue such actions are quite pre-ponderous to say the least.

That was so hard to watch. I didn’t have enough beer to calm my nerves. Great game though.
One thing, I really don’t think our Oline is that great. Hopefully the off season will allow for a lot of growth, but I really think the reason McCoy was the leading rusher is because he had to be so that he didn’t get sacked. He was hit very often this season.
Great year for the Horns. Exceeded my wildest expectations. I was expecting another 10-3 season.
Love being a Horn. UT is the best.

Congrats to Colt on breaking the completion % record...
It is official now with his 70.7% tonight. Had no idea he passed so many times.
Agreed.
While it was fun rooting for Cody, Fozzy, Vondrell and Chris every game hoping that one would step up, we must develop a feature back (or a solid #1 and 1a tag team) next year to have a legitimate chance at the MNC. Colt throwing the ball over 50 times (or 40 for that matter) is not a recipe for success in the long run.
the man, the myth, the legend.
Kudos to GD
I have been dogging this man all my life…but….man he called hell of a game

I’ll leave it at that. However, he deserves to bask in this victory too.

sure his utter hate of vertical passing game still frustrates all
but he came thru clutch moments this season
my first born shall be named vy
Yeah,,
too many 3 and 4 yard outs early on. Once they went to the 12 yard passes over the middle in the second half they actually scored points, imagine that.
Pryor td catch
That was sort of a trick play in a sense. I knew where that ball was going before it got snapped.
TEXAS FIGHT
well the announcers did call it 30 seconds before the snap… you might have picked up on it.

You are kidding, right?
See, this is why we’ll never get rid of this guy. He calls awful games, the rest of the team bails him out, and amidst the sweet perfume of victory, the fanbase ignores his repugnant odor.
Such GD love is a lot like post-coital pillow-talk; it has absolutely no evidential validity, nor is it rooted in any kind of rational logic.

I'm so glad
that they scored with over 2 minutes left. Once it got under 3 minutes and they were driving I was screaming for them to let them score and save ourselves at least 2 minutes. People looked at me like I was crazy, until about 3 minutes later.
I don’t think we actually “let” them score, but I’m glad they scored when they did.
Oh I AM VERY glad we let them score
otherwise they wouldve had the game
my first born shall be named vy
I think some of the sting is gone from the BCS BS
Lots of teams have legitimate claims at #1, but none were more fun to watch than the Horns!
Congrats!
Hard fought game tonight and you guys deserved it. By the way, even as a Gators fan, I called this game pretty well in the predictions thread; is that going to get looked at or was that just for kicks? Again, congrats on tonight and we’ll see what we can do about those Sooners come Thursday night.

Decent stats for the #3 receiver (7rec 60 yds) but he played way above those numbers. Colt hit him in a ton of clutch spots

I only remember
seeing one throw to Malcolm Williams (and he would have had a TD if thrown inside), what’s up with that?
this is really a question you could have asked the entire second half of the seasons. but it was all the more curious today given this struggles of the short passing game. malcolm jenkins is very good but i felt we gave him too much respect, as if his presence ruled out any deep throws. williams burned him, and they lost two DBs to injury, why not go fishing against the backups.
by the chairman211 on Jan 5, 2009 11:31 PM CST up reply actions
No need
Obviously Malcolm is an immensely talented WR, but with Quan playing at the level he was last night finding open space throughout the game, there really wasn’t any need.
Like you said, if he throws a better ball on the deep route, we score 6. I still think Malcolm will be a BIG TIME player on next year’s squad. So will Brandon Collins.
the man, the myth, the legend.
I'm so proud of this team
and this university. I watched the game in Chicago in a bar full of Buckeye fans. Seated near me were the one cute girl in the bar (a Texas fan, of course) and two Michigan fans (who, we agreed, share a strange bond with Texas fans). I would have loved to blow this team out. But this win was delicious.
Great game, Horns. Hook ’em!

Final Ranking?
Yikes, is it possible the Horns will drop in the poll after win? The media loves the 1-loss Trojans and the undefeated Utah. My prediction
- - Obviously the winner of the NC game
- - USC, they beat the Big Ten Champ, Texas squeaked by the 2nd Big Ten team
- - Texas, nice win.
- - Florida (if they lose), Oklahoma will drop to #5 to #7

2009 Rankings
Texas and USC will be preseason #1 & #2. It depends on who stays or goes to play on Sundays.
by Wichita Lineman on Jan 5, 2009 11:50 PM CST reply actions
Frankly, I think Utah #1
To hell with the status quo of making the MNC the decider. It’s the MYTHICAL NCG!! Screw it. Utah No. 1. They beat Bama on the big stage. Oh did I say beat, I meant dominated.
Then No. 2 OU/UF winner,
No. 3 USC (killed PSU),
No. 4 Texas,
No. 5 MNC loser
Is he really?
I kind of agree with him about Utah. They went undefeated. They played probalby as tough a schedule as any (SEC is doing well in bowls, but over all this season they are down). The whole system pisses me off. We need play offs.
WTF Dude!?!
What the fucking hell shithead comment is that. Fuck off!! Don’t ever call me a sooner asshole
What a dick. Fuck you asshole
You got no reason to insult me
You have no clue you idiot
Just cause I can see this game as it was doesn’t make me a sooner asshole. We played well. OSU played well. But we never dominated. USC dominated. Utah dominated. I would concede being ranked aboveOU even if they win the MNC, but I can’t say the same about Florida if they win. At best we’re the 3rd best on a given day. We can beat anyone, mind you, but so can all the others in the top 5.
But don’t insult me for coming up with a reasoned list. I hate OU but I can be objective and say they’re a good team. So fuck off rbr.

\m/ Hook Em Horns!
Gotta love it...
Texas keeps winning in the final weeks of the season and continues to drop the in the polls. At this point I think we can say f*** the polls. OU can have all of the Heismans and BCS/Bowl losses they want, I wouldn’t trade places with them for anything in the world. I don’t care if we finish @ #2 or #5. This team didn’t have the talent of the 2005 team, but finished @ 12-1 because of their overwhelming will to win. The 2005 team had a few situations where one missed play (like the Kansas road game) would have cost the chance at a national championship…the 2008 team just happened to get nipped by one play in Lubbock. There’s a lot of luck involved in winning it all and this team did everything it had to do to finish on top. In my mind, they will always be on top. Congratulations to a great team and a great program. With Muschamp and Applewhite involved and Gilbert coming in at QB in 2010, I think the program is in better shape than ever.
We’ve got an overachieving team that just gave Texas its fifth straight bowl win, with three of those coming in prime BCS games. Oklahoma has four straight bowl losses and stands on the edge of a fifth embarrassing loss. Mack Brown is one Jamaal Charles fumble away from winning the last four straight versus Stoops. Texas just moved ahead of OU in BCS Bowl victories.
Advantage: Texas.
Oklahoma “could win a thousand games in a row, but nothing would change, like last call on Saturday night, OU SUCKS, TEXAS FIGHT!”
TEXAS FIGHT
I remember in my day on the 40 Acres
The t-shirts always said, “A&M Sucks, but OU Swallows”. Not sure if that one still floats around on campus…
the actual sure thing would be the team from College Station
But they need a few more wins next year.

Not Fair, just saying it could happen
As much as ESPN loves Texas (last play of game is the #1 play of the night on ESPN), USC and Utah may slip past them. Utah will not be voted #1. Having typed that, Texas will end up #3.
by Wichita Lineman on Jan 6, 2009 12:00 AM CST reply actions
sure thing
ain’t no such thing. I think we can throw the USC road loss out due to B.Wells and T.Pryor not being at the helm. The PSU game hinged on one critical fumble. This Ohio State team, while discounted, was no joke. They had a real defense and Pryor has a great future ahead. I knew that this game would be closer than advertised, although I expected the “Texas didn’t win by enough” argument to emerge.
Personally, I don't give a monkey's if we drop.
I gave all that up last month

I cant get enough of the highlights. #1 on ESPN's top ten was the throw to Crosby.

i wouldnt write him off like that
did u see him stiff arming our DE’s???? good lord no one could bring him down although our tackling was pretty bad tonight
my first born shall be named vy
"...our tackling was pretty bad tonight."
What do you think Michigan fans were saying after their performance against Vince Young? It all depends on perspective. We saw athletic greatness; they saw poor tackling.
Tonight, I tend to favor Pryor’s abilities over poor tackling.
by BrooklynHorn on Jan 6, 2009 12:14 AM CST up reply actions
I don't think you can really criticize Pryor for his performance
he doesn’t play defense, and he caught what would have been the game-winning TD and the two point conversion (that shoulda been a no-call by the refs, imo).
It isn’t his fault that LB missed the tackle on Cosby.
The ironic thing about Pryor
is that he might be a better catcher of the ball right now than thrower of it. Both of those catches were excellent.
He’s a terrible thrower though. They had no 3-step or 5-step game with him in there.
I think
They had no 3-step or 5-step game with him in there.
That would be more of an indictment of their QB coach/OC than it is of Pryor. He performed ten times better than I thought he would tonight.
He actually didn't surprise me tonight
Made great plays with his legs but struggled to throw. Not exactly something nobody would predict.
by TheElusiveShadow on Jan 6, 2009 12:42 AM CST up reply actions
They had nothing more than a conventional passing game.
We had DL people back there several times and just couldn’t get under control enough to knock him down. A couple of those sacks and the story changes pretty fast.
Colt wasn't completely awesome his freshman year either....
With the caliber of our teams coming up, I think we will see this tOSU team again, and TP will be much better
by future_longhorn_dad on Jan 6, 2009 12:13 AM CST up reply actions
Thank Gawd for DVR
We’ve been watching Quan slip through the tOSU defenders for an hour now. Amazing that the buckies did not have anybody deeper – at least a safety on the goal line or sumpin. Bad defensive call on Tressel’s part – good read by ColtQuan. We can’t watch it enough and the announcer kept calling it right – “get it to Quan”.
Hook’em to all in the BON -where ever you are!
HornBorn55
Pryor should change positions
Pryor has a better shot at NFL as WR – I can’t believe he will EVER play QB. He simply could not make a pass. Fortunately for OSU, his throws were so bad, Texas could not get the int.

by BrooklynHorn on Jan 6, 2009 12:15 AM CST up reply actions
Agree as well
no need to dog Pryor. He is a freshman, and played a hell of a game on a huge stage. Ohio State will be very good in two years.
Congrats from Husker Nation!
Way to represent Longhorns, both your program and the Big 12.
It was an exciting and nailbiting game right to the finish line.
Finally one of your receivers broke a tackle a made a big play—huge play!
Game was similar to the NE/Clemson game, close and hard fought and the good guys prevailed at the end.
I only wish the Horns would have tried to go vertical more and ran Colt on some read option plays. Woulda loosened those guys up some.
Great win, thrilling game!
Again, congratulations!
"...don't TAZE me, bro..."
With Pryor @ QB...
…tOSU should become a spread option offense. They guy is like Vince Young with his legs and I doubt will become a very good pocket passer.
"...don't TAZE me, bro..."
Florida is the future team that scares me
Returning almost the entire team next year. If Tebow stays, look out.
Tressel's call on the spot of the ball
actually seemed to me to give the Horn offense a little time to reflect and figure out what to do. THe play before Colt hit Quan, he nearly blew it with the short throw, but both were trying to take advantage of the wide open middle.
I also think
the sack on the first play after the 16 second kickoff was huge. They had a timeout and only needed about 20 yards for a try until that sack.
That's on Boeckman
You have to throw the football in that spot. Make a read and try to force it. It gets picked who cares. Leaving yourself with a 65 yard Hail Mary isn’t an answer.
Sure TX friends, np....
your coach, team, and program are a class act.
Glad you beat the Sooners this year too…..
"...don't TAZE me, bro..."
I love how much talent we field
Their best corner was stuck on Williams all night because he is our deep threat, leaving their nickel backs on Cosby and Shipley and OLB’s on Collins, Kirk, Oggy, Fozzy, etc. Our offense is so diverse that they couldn’t just man up like you could on any normal team.
(P.S. This is not a post providing approval of the Greg Davis play-calling.)
If you're so sure of what it ain't, how about telling us what it am!
I was surprised
that TX did not attack the middle of the field with their passing game, everything was on the perimeter. Look like they feared the Buckeye safeties.
"...don't TAZE me, bro..."
I really think this one was closer than it needed to be.
was baffled with the gameplan for most of the game. Nothing new, of course.
Disciplina Praesidium Civitatis.
Well Colt
gave away at least 3 points at the end of the half. They managed nearly 500 yards of offense. Give OSU credit for tackling well (minus the last play).
The one criticism I would make is that they seemed to get away from their quick no-huddle stuff when it was 17-9. They slowed the game down a bit.
But remember
the Buckeyes are thinking the same thing. They left a lot of points on the board.
by BrooklynHorn on Jan 6, 2009 12:25 AM CST up reply actions
50-plus yard FGs
are what they are. It was very reminiscent of the OSU game. We coulda put that one away but had to hang on at the end.
Disciplina Praesidium Civitatis.
Wasn't talkng about the field goals
I was referring to the fact that they dominated the first half, but were up only 3. We may have put up deceptively similar numbers, but as they say in soccer, the buckeyes had more chances, and they mostly came away empty. It actually reminded me of the game in 05, when OSU also kept settling for field goals.
Even our half-time comment threads said as much, that we were lucky only to be down by 3.

Finally, ESPN can talk about NC Game
I am such a SAP, I am a Big Sooner fan and I found myself pulling for the Longhorns. It is very strange, I am glad Texas won. How ironic is THAT!! However, I hope it will not happen again. Though we get pissed at your whinning and make stupid comments on these blogs, most OU fans understand your point. Texas screwed up when they lost to Texas Tech. OU fans would be mad at team (especially DB that dropped int) and coaches (internally) – Texas fans push their anger out. If you lose – your team is at the mercy of the voters and computers. We understand that, hopefully you will as well. And please, I know you understand, but just accept that the winner of the NC game will be #1.

UT Stickers
Switzer impaled by Bevo, for starters. Tattoos, UT92, would also be a great motivator.

and Tebow is a better player. Advantage: Tebow.

I can Answer that
No, Texas has too much hate for the Sooners. Oklahoma does something right, otherwise a group of people could not hate another state, school, team, and coach as much as this bunch.

I guess asking a TX fan to root for OU
is like asking a NE fan to root for Mizzou, just not gonna happen….
"...don't TAZE me, bro..."
Shouldn't asking a Texas fan to root for OU
be just like asking a Nebraska fan to root for OU?

Well, even though Switzer used to
take us to the cleaners in the 70’s, NE always has had a healhy respect for the Sooners.
Some hate here and there, but mostly respect.
"...don't TAZE me, bro..."
yea, KU/MU, that's ugly.
Actually NU/CU is more of an ugly gridge match disrespectful thing, but Mizzou is a close 2nd.
"...don't TAZE me, bro..."
really? despite a history of dominance?
or maybe my historic perception is off.
Disciplina Praesidium Civitatis.
I'm not rooting for OU,
but I’m not exactly wild about the Gators winning another one, either. If the sooners win, at least the Big 12 can claim supremacy. If UF wins, at least the sooners didn’t.
Disciplina Praesidium Civitatis.
God
I don’t want to have to go through conference talk again.
Big XII dominates SEC. End of story.

well, we didnt respect switzer so much...
just the players he put on the field. I dunno, just the way it’s evolved.

Nebraska and Texas is different
Unlike OU and Nebraska, Texas has this huge ego, but few championships – somewhat like Texas A&M. Mack finally won a NC with a great VY and he is crowned KING.

Come on…. I want to type 39-33. You see zE bOp, this bunch will never forget. Though Texas Tech, the voters and the computers and themselves screwed up their year – who do they hate – The Sooners.

Texas Tech is not a part of this discussion. Right now, the topic of conversation is the clear superiority Texas carries in its rivalry against OU.

zE bOp, Texas may drop to #4
I don’t think it will happen, but it could. USC will be #2, they beat the better Big Ten team. Texas will be no better than #3, and may drop to #4. I think Texas is better than Utah, but who knows with these darn voters – Right Texas fans. You know something about that.

that in 2008 the Longhorns were NATIONAL CHAMPIONS! They don’t need some bs system to tell them otherwise. Any of you guys that are throwing around terms like “ugly win” and “not our best effort” are getting sucked into the mary kay cosmetics game that screwed us in the first place. IT’S A WIN! That was Ohio State out there not boise. Honestly, on Friday Texas, usc, utah and thursday night’s winner can claim a national championship. What a bullshit system that yields 4 teams claiming to be the best. Hook’em…NATIONAL CHAMPS 2008!
Well said...
There is no single champion this year…while they will give away one weak trophy…There will be 4 teams as you say that can claim a piece of that pie.

If there are 4 national champs....
Then there are NO national champs. And I think the latter is more true than the former, because you’re right, the system is completely flawed and incapable of determining any real champ at all.

45-35, pretty sure its 0U that has no place in the national title game. I hope they pan to a closeup of stoops after they lose to florida in another bowl loss while texas is at home with their bowl trophy.
us fags? your team is led by a bitch with a visor superglued to his head. Youre talking quite high and mighty considering the past National championship yall went to in ’05. remember? 55-19 beatdown by USC. The team WE beat the next year

Congratulations, Horns
Way to fight your way back. You did have me scared for a while, though, that we’d all have to listen to the Little 10 for a whole year. Oh, and Cosby is a MONSTER.
I do have one question, though. Since I’m from Tech and thus don’t know much about football, I was hoping you could help me out. Let’s say one team is trailing and they put together a drive to take the lead in the last couple of minurtes. Then the other team, who had been leading the entire half up to that point, gets the ball. They drive length of the field and get a TD pass to regain the lead and win the game in the closing seconds.
Now here’s where I’m lost. Is that a well-deserved, hard-fought, come-from-behind win? Or is that a last-second, undeserving, lucky, miracle fluke? I thought I knew the answer from listening to y’all, but now I’m really confused. [just a little tongue in cheek]

All is good amigo
We were all dizzy with the win. I was yelling my ass off at the tv screen watching the game at the end. I had my bro on the phone and he couldn’t yell cause his kids were asleep so he had to “yell” in whisper. Funny to listen to.
Memories and concerns
I’m a senior at UT with one year left, and I had season tickets alongside my dad (he’s not an alumni, so it felt great that I was the one securing the kick-ass seats we had), and we watched the road games together as well. I will never forget the feeling of running across the house to give my dad a hug when Quan Cosby scored the game-winning TD. Some are going to call it a lucky win, or a dirty win, but it’s still a win. I will never forget the emotions tied into this season, the exciting manner in which it ended, and while it’s not a national championship, it’s still pretty awesome. The fact that I got to share this with my dad is what really makes it for me. Hook ’em.

Concerns
I forgot to mention the concerns part: People are going to accuse Mack of not being the quality coach others are saying he is; instead opting for the “He just has the keys to a nice car that practically drives itself, having access to the best recruits, a tradition-rich program, etc.” Those people need to google John Mackovic and see how well he did as head coach of Texas. It’s not an easy job, and the players aren’t going to do it all for you. Give Mack a few more years to add some hardware to the trophy case then get back to me on your thoughts about his coaching ability.
by Ricky'sDreadlocks on Jan 6, 2009 9:59 AM CST up reply actions
eh
you could make that case for all the “elite” programs in college football. California and the south//southeast all are rich pickings for recruits. I don’t think that’s fair for people to say that just about Mack.
