About this "Split" Championship...
Maybe im the only one who feels this way, and im trying to figure it out, but....i would in no form, shape, or fashion want to share a championship with the team who is not only our most hated rival, but also a team that we beat by double digits.
I would've been estatic if Texas had blown out Ohio State and I'm pisted that they didnt, however i'll take any win as long as it registers as a win. I am rooting and have been rooting the entire bowl season for OU to get embarassed by the Gators which would destroy our chances for a split championship regardless of what the Horns did on the field. This end of season ranking thing baffles me because...at the end of the year, if you're not #1, it doesnt matter. The rankings will change in the pre-season and Texas will be #2. What I'm saying is.....Hook 'Em Gators, keep your pathetic "we can share it" championship, and we'll see ya'll next year en route to ur 5th National Title!

Florida's returning almost all their starters.
And if Tebow’s back, look for a very dominant run to the MNC again. Looking way ahead, I think UT/UF in next year’s MNC would be an awesome matchup for the ages. However, with the way the voters like USC, I doubt we’d be at No. 2, probably more like No. 3. Need to run the table next year.

Honest to goodness
The only thing that worries me bout Florida is everyone is returning for that defense.

You can expect these teams to be lower
based on who they lose and the talent brought in. Our returning talent and incoming freshman excite me, but what excites me most is our two “freshmen” safeties coming back with experience under their belt and the potential emergence of Malcolm Williams and the three headed monster in our back field.

Did you hear
that jackass on ESPN saying he’s going to vote Utah over Texas? So lame. Still no respect. That was a damn good Ohio team we just beat. Maybe even better than that Oklahoma team we beat. But still, Cowherd says he thinks utah, and usc should be voted about Texas.

the media is always tossing USCs salad every damn year. I don’t see anything changing about that either

LIke USC?
Still SC and Utah did their part in big fashion to impress the voters. I’ve said this before and got a bit of flack for it but since the system is so effed up, I don’t think I can provide a great argument AGAINST either of them being ahead of Texas right now. We beat a tough team in a close game, but they are second in their conference and their winner got crushed by SC – it was no contest by halftime. Utah also demolished Bama. Hey, I think the Horns can beat anyone, but if you’re asking me to rate based on the information available, you simply have to consider that they could be ahead of us.
This discussion will never go away until a definitive system is in place. This year we got the short straw. The perception of our “whining” doesn’t help us; in fact I think it hurts us. The system we play in means we gotta take care of business on the field and that loss in west Texas was fresher in the minds of the voters than the win in Dallas. Take care of business and this goes away and we’re the ones invading the C&C message board with condescending posts.
Next year we have another excellent opportunity to run the table. The competition will still be tough but we can do it. No reason to leave it for the voters and their convoluted evaluation process.
Sorry, I call it as I see it. I posted before the A&M game an extremely angry rant that we should run up the score to ridiculous levels and embarrass them but we didn’t. We did the “classy” move instead and guess where we ended up? Well wake up, apparently our “classy” is their “whiney”. I hate that reputation more than being considered “soft” like we were a few years ago before the VY era. So, next time we beat everyone we play and no one can say anything and we don’t feel the need to fly banners all over the countryside.
Want respect? Well, earn it with wins not whines. That’s how the world outside Texas sees it. I know. I live in Michigan and I’m surrounded by Big 10 honks that want to give us props but still always bring up the complaining factor. No matter how much I try to explain that it’s not complaining but pointing out the logic (eg 45v35, our loss in hostile field after 4 weeks of punishing competition with injuries to key players…..etc), it just falls on deaf ears. To others it’s just “scoreboard”. So it is. So it is.
Didn’t like my answer? Well, bring it on.
P.S. If you’re a sooner just know that any reply will simply be ignored by me. I don’t discuss this with you. Period.

Utah = Monkeywrench
If you are not #1 in the last poll what does it matter? We won’t be and they were 13-0, so I would vote for them over us if only because the BCS sucks.

Next year...
We’re not going to be seeing the likes of USC or Florida until a potential national title matchup, so the pre-season ranking whether @ #1 or #5 really doesn’t matter. If we take care of business and beat OU, OkState on the road and TexTech at home, and win the Big XII title game, then the rest should take care of itself.
I don’t think that even a one-loss Big XII team (assuming that Texas were to drop one game next season) gets held out of the national title game. Of course there’s always the troublesome scenario of an undefeated team rising from the Big Ten, Pac Ten, ACC or Big East. A one-loss SEC champion is almost always a lock for the national title game.
Once again it comes down to getting our business done in the Big XII. In most years (and under any other conference’s tie-breaker rules) our performance this year would have been enough to reach the national championship, but we were jobbed by extreme circumstance.

Cameron Newton would win the job over Brantley?

Suppose USC Texas and UF go undefeated next season... Who gets left out?
I say USC because of their cupcake conference, but i wonder what the USC-loving media will say.
OU SUCKS!!!!!!

Good question
Depends on how strong the Big 12 opponents are with the possibility of losing key personnel. Bradford, Harrell, Crabtree go pro, then that means that our biggest win might be Okie State, God forbid. This is all assuming that blO-U is hurt that bad with the loss of Bradford.

Tebow.
If Tebow comes back, Florida will be the preseason #1. That said, who cares?
by ejruiz on Jan 7, 2009 6:17 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
preseason = sucks
what were we ranked before the season began??
my point exactly.
by thatgooner on Jan 7, 2009 6:37 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
ur right but
its a pretty good head start to finishing top ranked especially in Florida’s case where they could have what it takes to go undefeated throught the SEC. The bid dawgs in the conference will be better next year but Florida will be the best team in the SEC by far.
