Should I become a Longhorns fan?

Hey!

I'm a teen, I'm a huge Kansas City Chiefs fan, and I've never really been into college football before, but I want to. But before I can become a huge college fan, I need to pick a favorite team. My options are you guys (The Longhorns), Notra Dame, and the Florida Gators.  I like the Longhorns because I love Texas and I plan to go to The University of Dallas and eventually live there. By the way, what town are the Longhorns in? I like Notra Dame becasue my family has always sorta liked them, and I like the Gators casue I like Tim Tebow. But basicly I want to know why you guys think I should be a Texas fan. :-) I'm going around to all the SB Nation sites and seeing how nice the fans are! :-) And I'm leaning towards the Longhorns. And don't worry I AM NOT a fareweather fan. Once I find my guys, there my guys! Just look Im a Chiefs fan! haha. I appreciate it!

The University of Texas

is based in Austin, Texas. About a three hours drive south of Dallas.

Texas is a state of mind. Texas is an obsession. Above all, Texas is a nation in every sense of the word – Steinbeck

good luck on getting into University of Dallas!

Go for ND

Its easier to be fans of the same team as your family, and Notre Dame will be on TV every game every time every where for the most part.

My family...

are all patriots fans. And I don’t live near KC so i don’t see many Chiefs games anyway. But it doesn’t stop me. :) And I don’t make desions based on my family. I make desions based on my heart. My heart is telling me “Texas”. :-)

Ok

But if you had the choice, all other things being equal, why not choose the team whose games you can watch?

And if all other things are not equal, why write the thread? Anyway, Ima stop feeding.

Go Notre Dame

You’re going to University of Dallas which is a Catholic school, Notre dame seems right up your alley. You can enjoy future Catholics vs. Convicts events, and root for more Catholic players than you can shake a stick at. Texas and Florida, I’m concerned, will not meet your high moral standard, being a devout catholic. We don’t always have a Colt “never touched booze” McCoy, or Tim “Too Christian to Bang Erin Andrews” Tebow. So while the current land scape may look favorably upon my alma mater and Florida, don’t expect it to last.

Naw, come on over.

These guys are all reverse psycholigists. Sounds like you have money and would be a great booster…. :-) We need to expand the stadium in a couple more years so your contribution will be appreciated.

It sounds like you really do need to spice up the family gatherings at Thanksgiving and Christmas anyhow. Your family will be well into basketball before you’re even done with football as a Horns fan and who knows, you might even win a few converts.

Notre Dame will only contribute to your misery as Weiss should be packing faster than you are. Florida is way too far away from Dallas and will be overcome by Hurricanes within a couple of years, so don’t bother.

I like your sense of humor. I have a friend in Denver who is a die hard Chiefs fan, so I know your pain, and appreciate the tongue in cheek submission. You really do need a reprieve though for the sake of sanity. Be a Longhorn, come to Austin, it’s fast becoming the Chiefs farm system anyway. You can post your fellow Chieftans on future draft prospects. There is a sign as well. The only Priest on KC’s roster is from Texas.

Is that a thinly disguised Miami is back reference?

I’m not suggesting Miami dominates the national scene , just creates a lot of havoc for Florida.

The Gilbert era will be alot of fun!

Quick, tell us what Texas Longhorns alum had a great NFL career as a KC Chief?

don't know...

but Jamal Charles, if he can hold onto the football, could have a good NFL career.

by chiefs#7 on Oct 1, 2009 5:06 PM CDT up reply actions

It’s been frustrating. You see his talent, but the Chiefs haven’t had a good defensive coach since Marty Schottenheimer left town, so the investment in good defensive talent has been like shoveling money down a rathole. I was elated when KC drafted my favorite Longhorn ever, but I’ve been sad to see him suffer under such dismal coaching.

I didn’t realize I had competition on this……….

To simplify

Notre Dame = tradition
Florida = flashy
Texas = football

whichever of those three appeals to you, go for it

If you're so sure of what it ain't, how about telling us what it am!

Before I read that last sentence, “football” made my eyes perk.

Being both a Chiefs fan and a Longhorns fan, I fully recommend going for it. It’s great being a fan of two BCS-caliber teams.

I don't know about buying someone's virginity

sounds like one of those deals you might find out it’s slightly used…

could you return it if you weren’t satisfied with the purchase?

I don’t know, but I’d probably spring for the extended warranty while I’m at it.

I have been married a long time

When I first got married, my wife said that I could either “waste” my saturdays or my sundays watching football but I could not shoot the whole weekend in front of the TV. I, of course chose my Longhorns and enjoy my Saturdays (and sometimes, Thursdays, and Fridays…). I have never looked back.

I think you should enjoy your Sundays and watch the chiefs.

im placing my vote for the Longhorns due to the following reasons

1. the rich tradition.
2. the fact that the coaching staff and athletics administration follow the philosophy that if anything is worth doing, its worth doing right.
2a. they do this and consistently win while doing so.
2b. the players are, for the most part, a wholesome group who desire to do the right thing and be leaders in their community, (of course there will be some bad apples, however these are people who are just beginning to find out who they are in life.)

Texas/OU weekend

By being a Texas fan, you’ll get at least one weekend to bask (sp?) in Longhorn gear in the DFW area. For $8, you can even take part in the State Fair prior to the Texas/OU game. This should close the deal for you. End thread now.
