I think it's ironic

That both the OU and UT fanbases are worried about their performance today in the face of next week’s showdown. Except we’re not really worried about our D.

Defense and special teams wins championships

There’s a reason OU didn’t win last year, besides that OU sucks.

When you look at Florida and Alabama this year, you aren’t going to beat them 34-24. That’s going to be a 20-17 or 13-10 game.

The Defense has given up 190 yards combined the last 2 weeks. The special teams, crappy punter play notwithstanding, has a blocked punt for touchdown, 2 TD returns, and 2 punt returns.

I’ll take my chances if Colt McCoy and the offense (read: GD) are the weak link.

by jtlonghorn on Oct 10, 2009 9:46 PM CDT reply actions

Coincidentally

If my quick calculations are correct, the top 3 defenses by YPG allowed tomorrow will be:

1. Florida
2. Alabama
3. Texas

Its 445am here in Germany

And OU still sucks, but i cant celebrate this win. I woke up early in the morning to see the Horns embarrass Colorado and instead, we were down at halftime. The RRS will be my cure.

Colorado sucks

but sucking does not seem to prevent a team from giving us a challenge. I trust Coaches Brown and Muschamp will have us prepared to overcome another challenge from a team that obviously sucks. Hook ’em forever!

I’m starting to think Shipley should be our Heisman candidate. At least right up there with McCoy.

I have to disagree

LSU has a lot of talent. Many of the players on this LSU are as good or better than what UT is lining up in the same position. However, they haven’t had a reliable QB since Flynn. That won’t work against Florida.

Even after the Texas performance tonight?

"I don't ever miss free throws. I'm like 100-percent from the free throw line. I just don't think about missing and if you think about missing you're going to miss. I just take my time and know I'm going to make it and I do," McClellan said.

by blazzinken on Oct 10, 2009 10:07 PM CDT up reply actions

I need to see Texas play a good team well before I can give them the number 2 ranking

And we are going to need to run the ball to where a defense can actually bite on it.

We've given up ......

…… 75 points playing 5 crappy teams. The Gators have given up 32 points playing quality teams.

The way things are going in the Big-XII, OU may be the only ranked opponent we play in the regular season.

quality teams?

i wouldn’t necessarily call charlseton southern and troy quality teams. they only account for 9 of those 32 points though. but i do agree i am a bit disappointed about the 75 points we’ve given up. after today’s game defense seems to be our strong suit

…. forget to mention Tennessee, Kentucky and #4 LSU?

I don't think he forgot

They just weren’t germane to the argument. He was pointing out that two of the teams that Florida has played were not quality, the other three teams are not in question.

Sure they are.

A schedule can be what ever the hell you say

but he was not talking about the schedule, he was just making a point that had nothing to do with those three teams.

I know this much....

3rd and short.. I don’t want to see a freaking run out of the shotgun again.

I’m not against running out of the shotgun, just the Longhorns running out of it on short yardage distances. If we’re going to do that I’d rather see a freaking end around or something honestly, at least that way I can see someone different being tackled for a loss.

I would also like to add that I hate Cody Johnson running the Zone read, give it to him from the I.

Especially....

With a 240 pound RB running lateral to the line of scrimmage? CU had the Wildhorn dialed in. I say trash it unless you have a play to take a shot downfield wiht Chiles throwing to a wide open TE?

It's 11:14 EST

and OU still sucks.

My question is where the heck was Tre Newton tonight? Or anyone else besides Vondrell? I mean, I am a sentimental fan of Vondrell, but after a half of ineffective running (and run blocking in his defense) why not try a new “flavor”?

by hoogs on Oct 10, 2009 10:16 PM CDT reply actions

Amen to that!

I hear….. he has set school records for the season and his career…. in just 4 games.

Urgshher, whatever, its a win

Considering the amount of GREAT plays in the second half with so few coming from the offense, this game makes me optimistic for our best.

The Earl Thomas touchdown was the most exciting play I’ve seen this year. An 80+ yard pick six, how long since that?

Granted, I haven’t seen every game.

The crazy thing is that Colt can play better and he was still 32 of 39.

OU FUCKING SUCKS! If Bradford is as much of a coward as I think; he’ll fake an injury. What a pussy. He should be terrified of Acho and Kendall.

Hook ’em!

What? Oh, yeah, it’s 9:26, and, yeah that’s right, OU still sucks.

lets face it...each team today could have played better.

Now that I think about it...

if we play horribly by our standards and walk away with a 38-14 with both TD’s for the opposition based on Turnovers, I am OK with that. 32 of 39 for colt.

by Mulliganville on Oct 10, 2009 10:37 PM CDT reply actions

Yeah...

that’s kind of how I see it.

Did the offense play great? Nope.

But coming off a bye week and looking ahead a week… I’ll take a 28 point win.

I also thought that Texas was pretty vanilla on offense for the most part.

Colt's Legs

He needs to use them. I’m not saying he has to go crazy running like last year, but part of why he was so effective was because of the threat of his speed. He’s holding the ball this year on plays where he’d have scrambled in the past. I’m sure this is because he’s trying to stay healthy and I love that. But at the end of the day, we need to win games and with our offense looking like a big ? on a weekly basis, he needs to start to take over at least a little more frequently. Maybe I’m taking crazy pills…

by hoogs on Oct 10, 2009 11:43 PM CDT reply actions

Agreed

Last year if I recall at the RRS, Colt made a few nice long runs, and was a part of the reason drives were so long. Gassed OU’s defense OUt by the 4th.

lame play calling...

im hoping that GD was keeping the less conservative plays for ou, i just dont understand why we didnt use the i-formation, or single back playaction all night? hopefully we bring out all the funk next saturday…we better if we wanna win!!

All I want for Christmas is for Texas to move to the SEC and destroy those overrated chumps!!!

Nice win...or not?

Nice win over a relatively poor team that stuffed the Texas running game like it was a Greg Davis prayer with nowhere to happen.

OU is not a relatively poor team, and it would amaze me to see us win.
