Tailgate for Texas/OU?
We are bringing our 18 foot trailer tailgate setup to Texas/OU game. Where do we set up on Friday afternoon? Please let me know what parking lot area or field where most of the fans set up. It looks like I need to get this to 75 words in order for it to post. What has been your experience with tailgating at the fairgrounds? We usually just get there early Sat morning and head into the game, but wanted to make more of a weekend of it this year. Thanks!

you must experience the pre-game inside the fair - not in a lot
you don’t tailgate. for an 11 am game, you go early, and “tailgate” inside – you get a corn dog and stare violently at the idiots cloaked in red. An 11 am start makes it a nightmare getting to the fairgrounds – additionally, I am not sure how much earlier the gates open to park. Hook Em.

Different Tailgate Dynamic
There is a parking lot off of Fittzhugh Street located next to the Superpages Concert Complex…at least I think that’s who sponsors it now. It used to be called the Smirnoff.
Anyway, I think you might be able to get in there on Friday afternoon where the RVs park, but chances are more likely that you won’t be able to get in until around 6:30am on Saturday. Otherwise, for overnight parking near the fair, I think you’d have to go hang with the Carnies and somehow I don’t think that’s what you’re looking for.
If I were you I’d get up really early Saturday AM and drive the trailer down to the Fitzhugh lot. You’ll probably have to buy two or three parking spaces, but I’ve seen tons of people do it. One big difference though, they typically have people at their tailgate that never intended on going into the game…they’re just there to be close to the atmosphere.
Unless you have some folks who will be staying at your tailgate during the game, I wouldn’t bring the big set up…like Wigman above wrote, the fair is really the tailgate when it comes to TX/OU and with the 11am start time, you’ll barely have time to set up before going to the game and if you can’t park it on Friday night.
My friends and I typically get down there around 6:30am and just bring a cooler with beer, Vodka and Bloody Mary mix. On the way down, we hit some place like Whataburger for some breakfast tacos. We drink and read the paper until around 9:30 or 10 and then head into the fair…it’s just easier that way.
Regardless, the weather is going to awesome, so if you can figure out a way to make a weekend out of it, it might be worth it…provided TX wins of course.
Be nobody but yourself in a world that desperately wants you to be like everybody else.
