Orakpo on track for Def Rookie of the year?
The only reasons I watch the NFL are to 1) see the Texans play and 2) see how ex Longhorns are doing.
I haven't gotten to see him play much, but I noticed that Orakpo seems to be doing well:
So far on the season he has 15 tackles (11 solo), 1 pass defended, and 2.5 sacks. That's pretty good for a rookie 5 games into his season. If he can keep his pace, he'll end up with quite a few tackles and 8-9 sacks which should at least put his name in the convesation for Def rookie of the year.
Glad to see an NFL Longhorn doing well. It is also nice to not have to worry about hearing all the 'over rated' crap.
On another note, Benson is averaging just shy of a hundred yards rushing per game. With the Bengals(I think he averaged 100 ypg during the last 5 games with the bengals last year also). WtF? Its good to at least seem him doing well now.

I believe Benson is leading the NFL
in rushing right now with a slim lead over Peterson.

Benson is playing really well.
He’s finally motivated. He’s finishing runs. At Texas, you rarely saw him get tackled on his back and this is now what you are seeing in the NFL. He’s punishing hitters and he actually is showing pretty good speed. I’m glad he’s finally displaying his talent. But we all know, it’s the scheme that is helping him. His has a good QB behind him (unlike when he was in Chicago) and so teams can’t just fixate their defense on stopping him…though they might want to start doing so. Anyways, it’s good to see him succeed!

Well yeah the scheme always helps,
see the Denver Broncos under Mike Shanahan as they would plug any back they had into their system with success. Benson even admits that Cincinnati runs a zone blocking scheme different than most teams and are able to stretch the plays out and give the RBs some room and look for gaps. Maybe GD needs to look into how a real zone blocking scheme operates.

also helps...
…that his OWN defense isn’t trying to hurt him in practice (like in Chicago).

hes got a 6 yard lead on AP
but AP has more TDs cuz the vikings run basically everytime theyre less than 10 yards from the endzone
i have benson on my fantasy team and hes such a great pickup for a 7th round pick. ofcourse…last week AP got 15 carries and benson got 27(vs the ravens D tho) and benson ended up scoring 1 more point than AP.
Im watching Ricky Williams play now and hes running great. hes running with speed and power. he hurdled a guy in the 2nd(or 3rd) quarter. its so nice to see him make his comeback.
however, its sad to see roy williams and sweed struggle. ofcourse, williams is out with a rib injury but with miles austin getting that ungodly total of 250 this weekend. sweed has been stuck in the 3rd receiver slot behind ward and holmes. He hasnt really been helping himself with his dropped balls.
i could see orakpo as the DROTY. hes being used both as a LB and DE. ofcourse with the redskins struggling i dont know how much exposure he is getting, but if he keeps the sacks coming i dont see anyone who would compete with him on the defensive side of the ball.
offensive rookie of the year looks interesting. Mark Sanchez? Matthew Stafford? Percy Harvin(also on my fantasy team he puts up about a TD/game)? Maclin after he exploded last week(fffffantasy teeeaaaaaam haha)? I’m leaning towards Stafford if he can get a few more wins mainly because of my sanchez/usc bias.

Yeah, it is good to see Ricky doing well again. Its a shame he went on his retreat. He was the AP before AP. After breaking a leg (I think that is the right injury), he finally made 16 games in seasons 3, 4, and 5. His stats looked every bit as good as AP’s do now.
Ricky Total Yards/TDs // AP Total Yards/TDs (through 2 years healthy Ricky vs first 2 AP)
1756/7 // 1609/13
2216/17 // 1885/11

I meant to say it’s a shame he went on his retreat because he would go out as a Hall of Famer, top X running back (not sure if it would be top 5, top 10, or what, but it’d be a short list before his name). Now he’s going to retire in a year at just really good but never having lived up to his full (football) potential.

Brian Cushing of the Texans
stands a good chance of being the AFc Rookie of the Year. He’s all over the field and tackling everything in sight. He leads the team in Tackles. Maclin had a huge game for PHI as well.
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.

Good point. Cushing is tearing it up.
- random aside - I’m having to listen to one of my Arkansas co workers down stairs talk about how good the pigs are. I hate Arkansas. —
I didn’t realize Benson was leading the NFL. That is awesome.
