Early look at the BCS standings as of now..
Yikes! Here are the mock standings from Brad Edwards at ESPN if the BCS came out this week:
MOCK BCS STANDINGS
| 1. Florida 2. Alabama 3. Virginia Tech 4. Texas 5. Boise State 6. USC 7. LSU 8. Ohio State 9. Cincinnati 10. Iowa |
But Brad says to relax if you're Texas.......if they win out, they'll be fine. So Texas just needs to focus on the task at hand that is O-WHO. The real BCS standings come out next week.......and I had forgotten how much I hate this BCS stuff.

I agree with the top two...
Florida deserves the top spot due to personnel and the right to be called the best team until proven otherwise. Alabama has looked good this year, and deserve the number 2 with their play. Obviously this is of no concern for us considering they’ll play each other in the SEC championship.
I don’t agree with Va Tech. Yeah, I know they look “sexy” right now. But they lost to Bama early on, and needed a miracle to beat Nebraska. Though Texas may not look as dominant to this point, I don’t think Va Tech has done anything to warrant replacing Texas at #3.

The real BCS comes out next week.
We will be fine. And if we can make it through the next stretch of games until UCF….. we will be a clear 3rd – Assuming that Bama and UF remain undefeated (and that is no guarantee). I am not worried about the BCS this year.
If we win, we are in. If we lose, no amount of help could put us in. So screw the BCS. We know what we have to do.
And just to be clear, no one is “Replacing” anyone. This will be the first BCS rankings. But I get your point.

Virginia Tech
they’ve already played 3 ranked teams and are 2-1.
Their 31-7 victory over Miami alone is more impressive than any victory we’ve had so far. Given Bama’s dominance so far this season, even their 10 point loss to Bama looks a lot sexier than any of our victories, as odd as that sounds.
I would not be upset if Va Tech or USC for that matter was ranked ahead of us. With the computers, resume plays a pretty big part. Our resume right now, is weak. By the end of the season, it will be stronger, so meh @ early polls.

what games are you all watching
that show Alabama dominating? I don’t get. Florida isn’t all that impressive either. Gators do deserve benefit of doubt as returning champs, but Bama? i don’t get it!

I agree
Alabama’s offense looks even more miserable than ours at times. Ole Miss gives them five turnovers, and the best they can come up with is one touchdown and five field goals. Please.
I think we have reached a point where we’ve been conditioned to think that if an SEC team is undefeated, they must be better than everyone else. It’s all perception. The SEC is allowed to suck on offense because of their defenses. Big 12 teams have to be not just good but great at both to get the same level of respect.

Va Tech didn't look dominant against Duke.
Maybe they deserve to be ranked that high, but I don’t see it.

hell, took a last minute miracle to be the Cornhuskers....

There’s no shame in that, though. It’s possible that Nebraska could end up being the toughest test Texas faces this season.

Need to have our deep game by then...
Nebraska is brutal in the box. They only have one real pass rushing threat, but they play solid as a unit. Pelinni style football. That could be the biggest challenge of the year for sure and if we’re not able to go deep and stretch by then we will be in trouble. I think their offense is still a bit too enemic for elite level, but they are a team on the rise and will probbably return to Big XII North dominance.

Suh is a pretty damn good tackle, and my real hope is that somehow the interior line will have worked on its issues enough by then that constant double-teams are effective. There’s no question in my mind that they’ll be necessary, so the approach should be to make it so triples aren’t necessary.

Would you say Suh is a better tackle
than Gerald McCoy? I would say no and tend to believe this weekend will give us a good idea how well our o-line can handle/survive against other great tackles down the line like Suh and possibly Terrance Cody.

I think that he does much more for the players around him than McCoy does, and that he impacts the pocket more. You won’t see me claiming to be an expert on the Xs and Os of line play, but that’s how it appears to me, particularly this season.

Pelinni style football. That's an awesome line.
Sounds like a sandwich.

Love the bread
It does, doesn’t it? I have a friend who is a Nebraska fan and Pelinni has them believing again, even with the loss to VT. Huskers are making huge strides in recruiting and I see them as the favorite for Aaron Green out of SA.
I also think this adds to the importance of Hicks and Jeffcoat recruits over a D. White type right now. Adding those to guys to this class would be absolutely amazing.

I saw his analysis on College Gameday on Saturday
he said Texas is ranked #6 in the computers (behind Boise St. Virginia Tech, and I’m guessing USC). Nothing new for us, given our notoriously soft nonconference schedule. Just like last year though, win every game and we’re in. At least we’re #2 in both the Coaches’ Poll and the Harris Poll IIRC.

Actually
Texas and Bama are tied for 2nd in the Harris Poll.

Mocks BSC standings - NOW
The story also says if Texas runs the table, they will play in NC game.

Hey,
BCS standings, you suck. My grandma could rank teams better than you, BCS standings, and she’s been dead for 5 years. BCS standings, you’re ugly and your mama dresses you funny.
There, I mocked the BCS standings as instructed above.

Stating the blindingly obvious
“Longhorns need convincing victory over OU to sway pollsters”
I hope the team aren’t as distracted by all this noise as BON’ers seem to be. There should be only one focus this week: beating OU. I’ve got to resist the urge to moan and hand wring, and concentrate on the excellent game prep posts that are on their way from our outstanding crew of authors.

Mack
needs to stress the element of controlling our own destiny. Forget the polls. If we win every game, we’re in.

The only BCS rankings that matter are the last ones
Oh, and sometimes the second to last ones, depending on your conference tie breaking rules.
At this point they are hardly more meaningful than preseason polls.
