A new longhorns offense?

I barely was able to attend the RRS due to a barely functional DART transit system. Thanks, DART, for sending me one and a half hours in the wrong direction before bringing me back around to the fair ground..

A few things that I observed from the stands that I'm sure PB and and GoBR will cover along with others after the jump.

Star-divide

There were new revelations in  the UT offense:

1. The hurry-up to the I formation... I don't think we saw this so far.

2. I think I saw men in motion. Incredible. GD reads some message boards.

3. Did EBS catch some passes for some big gains? Or did I hallucinate?

4. Goodwin was in the game tearing it up. That's new and awesome.

5. Fozzy is our top runner AND possibly a top receiver?

6. All of the above are offenseive notes, but are completely overshadowed by a defense that won the game with two final interceptions.

GD held back, and put out. We're undefeated. We have all the players, and from now on, the scheme is wide open.

Also, we left 21 points on the field with 1 special teams, 1 offensive and 1 defensive fumble inside the red zone on the ground. 37-13 was as easy as 16-13, and we lucked out at getting the latter.

Win. and move on.

If our offense fires, we can beat anyone. If not... well, we can just beat OU.

Hook 'em.

I was thinking the bootlet with that hurry I formation...

GD wouldve probably called it if we had to run another one in later in that game.
and u said something about blocks? what blocks?

I meant "building blocks"

My post was kind of “stream of conciousness” with plenty of inspirado from the hotel bar. :)

I went ahead and deleted that line from the post, as it didn’t make much sense.

offense

Texas ran the ball good yesterday. Fozzy is the best RB, and I hope he can stay healthy all year. The Wildcat with Colt is much more effective than with Chiles.

This game reminded me of an SEC game.

What makes a formation with Colt taking the snap the wildcat?

But ...

There is a deafening silence right now at BON regarding Colt. He’s not the same, and it seems like teams have found the game plan – clog the box and aggresively jump the slant routes. Colt easily could have thrown multiple pick sixes in that game – which I doubt we could have come back from. At some point, he needs to effectively get the ball downfield to open up the offense. Against OU, this was basically impossible because the offensive line couldn’t give him enough time. I hate to be negative after a big win, but thinking ahead to playing Florida or Alabama without an explosive passing game is frightening.

The game was gritty and physical. Loved it!

But I’m old school in that mentality. I prefer to leave no doubt so therefore I need to see more wrinkles in our Offensive game plan.

-Fozzy is our best RB, but he failed miserably in blitz pick-up. Major needs to work with him in this regard alot this week, and I think Colt’s productivity will rise because of it.

-Our mis-directional game took off and I was proud of GD for that, but thats just about the only thing I was happy with from him.

-We need a great dose of 7-on-7 drills this week to get Colt some trust in his WR’s. I’m not happy with Kirk or Chiles right now, but we have to keep working them. I feel that they can be a great part of this offense but they have to be utilized correctly, rather than BS screens that move 1 yard foward.

-Goodwin was not tearing it up. He made a couple great plays but he wasnt there long enough to “tear it up”. Nobody tore it up yesterday, except for Hunter Lawrence.

Good news is hat we dont have to face a defense that has a pulse until our bowl game. Bad news is that we dont have to face a defense that has a pulse until our bowl game. Competition breeds improvement. I think we’re having doses of reality and this week at practice is crucial. If we have a good week, we will DESTROY Missouri, but if it is lackluster….dont watch the 1st half. Hook em!

Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.

good observations, i might also add though that

chiles is a 1 trick pony… get him outta there. start prepping timmons or someone else. dude is only good for 1 or 2 screen passes a game and maybe 4-6 yards total. hes not that fast, cant block as good as buckner or shipley and is basically only starting cause brandon collins couldnt pass his coloring book class.

“we left 21 points on the field with 1 special teams, 1 offensive and 1 defensive fumble inside the red zone "
^^^^^^^^ this is a GREAT reason for optimism and yes the score should have been much higher ^^^

Fozzy is good...

but Cody Johnson is just as good if not better in certain sets. They need to take one of the small RBs (insert name) and put him in a tandem with Cody Johnson in rotation. CJ was part of the resurgence in the second half when he pass blocked and was also able to make some decent runs when needed and I said part. Fozzy did well, but we need to cut down on the small backs and use a big back every other turn. When you replace a small back with a small back, nothing much changes. Do a little “thunder & lightening” changing up size and speed. That’s exciting…

we could run the triple option with C Johnson and Fozzy in the backfield
