Texas Struggles while Tebow Wills the Gators to Victory--wink wink
Not only is there bias amongst the media members who vote out of habit rather than analytical results, but the coaches have also ordered a full pitcher of that Kool-Aid of late. I will note that the media did flip Bama and FL this week and rightfully so. But, just 4 coaches changed FL from #1 on their ballot from last week after the ABYSMAL performance by the mighty Tim Tebows. Really coaches? Really? I am convinced that the vast majority of you put zero thought into this weekly activity that affects who the MNC participants will be.
The facts from yesterday:
- Texas won by 3 on a neutral field against a very good defensive unit from OU. Ranked 3rd in points allowed going into the matchup with the Horns.
- Florida needed a last second FG to win...at home mind you...against the 95th ranked defense and unranked Arkansas Razorbacks.
- Bama did what they usually do...win in SEC rushing fashion that bores me to tears, but provides "plumpies" for the coaching brethren that "know best."
I have lost faith in the voters (both coaches and media) to actually use their noggin while they complete their ballots. The bias is horrific at times. The fact that Boise is in the top 10 is a complete farce and makes a mockery of the system. Those votes were garnered and harvested from their upset win over OU a few years back. This is the result of that harvest. Please line up Boise against the likes of OU, Texas, FL, Bama, USC and they will win one out of ten if they are lucky.
Ever wonder if the stigma about the Big XII has to do with OUsux being completely inept on the big stage against top notch opponents?

This week’s BCS standiings mean nothing. The only ones that count are the final ones.

i wouldn’t say they’re meaningless, for Texas yes maybe, but every week people look at where a team was last week, and base their votes on that, there’s definitely an “intertia” from being ranked high to start the season. it’ll keep you in the top 25 when you shouldn’t, and it’ll keep you from getting into the top 10 if you should be.

What times are the BCS rankings to be posted today?

Don’t try to rationalize it. Let’s just take care of business and we won’t be denied.

Please allow me this...
this is my venting forum as I do not want to subject my family to “Longhorn Mully.” I hate it when things are broke and nothing is being done to correct them…just a shrug of the shoulders as if nobody really cares if there is a true champion or not. No accountability of the voters. If the NCAA is going to be OK with schools being screwed out of opportunities which are rightfully theirs, then why do they care so much about the integrity of Dez Bryant having dinner with Deion Sanders? Hypocrites…all of them.
This being said, I know if our Horns take care of business, see you in Pasadena SEC champion.

Rant away!!
I am as deeply angry and frustrated by the ongoing stupidity and injustice of the bcs/polls in general as you are. the florida/sec/tebow bias is unbelievable and gets me so wound up. those calls in gainesville that gave florida the win? are you fucking kidding me?? how is that not the headline today? and you are right on the money about kids being denied opportunities. man i hope we turn a corner on offense, blow through the rest of our season, and kill the sec champion.

Mully
Enjoyed your post as usual. Why else would we fans create and consume blogs other than to discuss our passion, UT athletics.
I watched both the Horns and Gators and I believe there isn’t much between the two. Both teams have doped and talent across the field;however, at the moment both defenses are shining. Bamako is my nĂºmero UNO. This season is just as suprising to ne as last year. Unfortunately, the expectations are and were completely opposite. But hey, we’re 3rd in all polls and we are creating turnovers at a record pace. Defense wins championships. I still like our chances and finally, I enjoy watching this team. The future is bright yet.
Hook ’em.

Florida needed more than a last second field goal to beat Arkansas. They needed a lot of home cooking from the refs, and Arkansas missed a couple of field goals of their own.

Rant: I hate South Carolina
How they are ranked absolutely blows my mind! Above Avg defense, with absolutely NO offense. None! Nothing has made me more angry this season than seeing that team with the numbers 2and 2 next to its name. Garcia is a joke of a QB, their o- line is worse than UNT’s and how Spurrier has a job is laughable.
The fact that that team has been ranked AT ANY time during this season just confirms to me what a joke the coaches and AP polls are at times
jeesh they are bad… i mean badddddddd
