Behind the Numbers: Texas Rush D
Not only did Dave Matter do an excellent job with the Q&A he generously took the time to answer for BON, but he also provides some of the best statistics about the Texas running game I've seen around the internet. All from an MSM source! The takeaway -- Matter is doing his job out there and doing it exceptionally well:
- The Horns have given up just two runs of 20 yards or more.
- Opponents are picking up just 2.5 yards on first down, just 1.3 on second down.
- On 22 third-down tries, opponents have picked up the first down just three times.
- Opponents have gained just 2 yards on 18 carries inside the 20.
- Of the 215 rushing yards gained against Texas, 147 have come when UT leads by more than two touchdowns -- almost 70 percent.
- When opponents are within two touchdowns of the Horns, they’ve run 101 times for 68 yards. Not a misprint.
Wow.

And I liked this quote
Here’s all you need to know about Texas’ pass defense: All three Big 12 quarterbacks to start against the Horns didn’t finish the game: Texas Tech’s Taylor Potts (concussion), Colorado’s Cody Hawkins (benched) and Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford (shoulder injury.)
And you can bet that Trevor Vittatoe (UTEP) wishes he hadn’t finished even the first half.
Potts Concussion?
I believe Potts finished the game against us. Although, he certainly should have been killed by Sergio’s hit. Did he suffer a concussion in our game in addition to the one against New Mexico?
I just hope we can see our D add to their gross numbers
since the telecast will be in the dark at Memorial Stadium.
Has to be the worst TV venue for a night game in all of CFB.

Care to elaborate?
Are you saying that just because of lighting? And just because of the Missouri-Nebraska game? For that game, there was no extra lighting coming from the north side of the stadium because of a power outage, so it was darker than normal for that game.
