UT and KU hoops to play twice a year?
You all might find this little nugget from today's Kansas City Star interesting:
"Self and Texas coach Rick Barnes both said they have had informal discussions about adding a second KU-Texas game to the schedule that would be considered a nonconference meeting. They are interested in bringing more attention to the league's premier matchup. They said the nonconference game would take place in Dallas when the league game was at KU and in Kansas City when the league game was at Texas."
No idea how soon this would begin, if it ever does, but I think that would be great for both schools. You know that nonconference game would be nationally televised.

Nice idea.
But if you’re really hoping to reach this Texas fanbase you might want to start by saying “y’all”, instead of you all.

Why is that?
Did you miss his point because of it? Do you think the rest of us cant handle his complex mid-western words?
Also, I’ve been born, raised, and lived in Texas basically my whole life, and am much more likely to say “you guys” than y’all or you all, but you also won’t here me ever correct someone for using any of them.

sweet
If Barnes really wants this, he will find a way. Look at the other non-con. games he’s already scheduled. Maybe fans will realize that Kansas should be our primary basketball rival, and not OU/A&M.

A&M isn't a primary rival in anything outside of women's soccer
I find UT fans who relish a rivalry with A&M in any men’s sport to be a strange breed.

speaking of that sport...
….I read today that our pitchers that threw most of last year (Barnhill, Shroeder) had transferred. Does anyone else think that softball is pretty much the only sport where losing has become acceptable? I still can’t forgive Coach Clark for letting Cat walk away w/o a nat’l championship. sigh

I think Kansas fans have seen the UT v KU game...
as a developing rivalry lately. This game would really help to elevate it to the next level in my opinion. I think it’s a good idea in some ways.
The only tricky thing is one game is pretty much irrelevant to anything while the other will often help decide the league champ.
I think either fanbase would start to look at this game differently if their team consistently won the non-con game early in the year but lost the one that was played as a conference game.

Agreed
While I appreciate the motive of wanting to bring more attention to the budding rivalry, I think that their recent clashes – late in the conf. season with Big 12 title implications (usually) – have been pretty compelling.
Plus, UT- KU is a perennial conf. tourney match-up as well.
IMO, both teams would benefit more by scheduling a premier Big East or ACC team than from a potential 3rd game every year against the same opponent.

Kudos to Rick and his staff
For elevating UT basketball to the consistent level that Kansas fans believe we could be rivals. I think that says a lot about our program and Coach Barnes efforts to brand us as more than a football school.
Your tongue can't repel flavor of that magnitude!!

seems to me like an easy call...
there have been some pretty epic KU v UT battles and they typically are with the conference title or tournament on the line. It’s not a rivalry that has the hatred like Kansas v Mizzou or UT v OU but it’s a rivalry in the sense that we typically expect Texas to be our top contender for the conference title.
Sure it varies year to year, but UT has been the most consistent. I myself look forward to the game every year because I know it’s going to bring out the best in both teams.

It is always a quality game.
KD’s first half against them in the Conference Title Game is something I’ll never forget. Just outstanding basketball to watch by both teams.

agreed...
I think my personal favorite was Collison going for 24 pts 23 boards.

This idea is awesome...
I just love Rick Barnes approach to scheduling. I guess when you are playing for a spot in the Top 64, you can take more risks than playing for a spot in the BCS. Even so, I just hope i can make the UNC game at JerryWorld.

I don''t suppose Rick Barnes
could get involved in the scheduling of football gam . . . .

I didnt even know it was possible to do that
but i like it alot.
This is another thing that college basketball has over college football. Because it doesnt kill a team to lose a game in BB they can schedule good non conference games, something that is always a debate in football.
