Bradford gone...

Just viewed this on espn, Bradford opting for surgery and leaving school early for the league.  My question to everyone is how will blow u deal with this?  What I mean is does this change anything with Stoops and how he handles the injuries of his star players?  We all know that there are instances when he has pushed some of his players to come back too soon after an injury.  Also, is Jones the second coming of a good quarterback or is he merely a medium for their incoming and highly touted freshman out of Kansas?  Can't remember his name; does this change things for the rest of the guys that may have not bolted early if Bradford was coming back?

I think it was Bradford's decision to play again so soon

Not Stoops. Just sayin, can you post a link or give some examples of Stoops pushing a player to return to play too soon after an injury? I think he can be criticized for a lot, but I’m not sure I go along with that in particular. It’s not like he’s Jon Voight in Varsity Blues. Bradford decided to come back. He has to live with the decision he made.

The head coach decides who plays

Of course Bradford wanted to play, but the ultimate decision is with the coach.

I disagree. Bradford chose not to have surgery.

He proclaimed that he wanted to return and salvage OU’s season by beating Texas. Stoops didn’t speak for him in the press nor did he speak for him in the locker room when he said he was ready to go. Bradford made the call to return for his junior year, not get surgery, return against Baylor, and to play against Texas.

The whole Bradford/Gresham

injury saga has to hurt the Sooners. In, I believe three ways: (1) future standouts with eligibility remaining who hear good words from the NFL will more strongly lean toward not returning; (2) it puts a negative slant on the program in general, regardless of your take on who was at fault; (3) the message it sends to potential recruits.

Actually, I don’t blame Stoops for either situtation.

Bradford KNEW there was limited help at receiver and up front — and came back anyway. Bradford wanted to play again after the initial injury; ALL players want to. And, if the guy is throwing 60-yard spirals, there’s reason for the doctors, coaches, parents and player to think the shoulder is “OK.” The Gresham injury was just unfortunate. Nonetheless, the impact, and reporting, of the injuries has to hurt the program.

Plus...

It’s amusing to listen to all of the “journalists” attempting to put the worst possible face on Bradford’s injury. Apparently, it’s now a fact that he would have been “likely the #1 pick” in the 2009 draft and that he would have had “$25 million in the bank” right now along with Stafford-like guaranteed money after his second year of college ball.

GG > LJ

Jones has stepped in nicely but hasn’t shown me anything to fear in the future. It’ll be an interesting battle between he and Bell.

And you base this on what

What high pressure game has GG played that showed you he will be any better than LJ? 5 stars mean nothing. Let’s see him on the field before we start annointing him the second coming. Maybe he will be more Chris Simms than Colt McCoy/Vince Young as far as on the field production. LJ hasn’t done a bad job considering all the bad receiver drops and O-line play. In the RRS he had almost Identical numbers to the 5th year Colt McCoy against similar defenses with a lot less experienced O-Line.

i tend to agree...

…but what if he’s more like 5-star Vince Young (compared to Simms)? I think GG has all the tools to become great, but I will try to reserve declarations like that before I seen him play in real game situations.

Seeing him play in full games should give us an indication

Of how good he will be. I believe you guys lose 3 O-line this year and hopefully you can fill those holes pretty quickly. And please don’t throw out the reload and not rebuild crap. OU had plenty of top recruits that just can’t seem to get it together (similar to UT in 2007). O-lines need time to mesh so I can’t see GG having a spectacular first year as a starter. LJ on the other had will be in his 3rd year at OU and a full year of game time experience under his belt. I believe in the qb spot, OU will have the advantage next year barring injuries. However, we lose most of the D so who knows how that works out.

Blake Bell

He’s supposed to be pretty good, but OU has been losing to Texas in the recruiting wars for the past several years…

I think more importantly is whether Venables and the O-Coor both stay as both or if one or both take a head coaching job elsewhere…with all of the personnel losses coming this offseason now might be a good time for them to cash out their chips

I said this on a different post last week, but...

I really hope Garrett Gilbert and Landry Jones just flat out hate each other. That would be a lot more fun than the “friendly competition” storyline between McCoy and Bradford… right?

completely agree

Their mancrushes on each other take a lot of fun out of it for the fans. Apparently Colt doesn’t like Tebow so we have that to look forward to… KNOCK ON WOOD.
