Bud Adams Tells Fisher To Start VY Now
I have very mixed feelings here. The Titans are more the Titanics this year and now Adams wants to give the reins to Vince. The first concern is the mandate part of it. It's not Fisher's idea so will VY have the full emotional and intellectual effort and support from the staff? Secondly, I was hoping for Vince to get as far from Nashville as possible next year in a trade.
Here's the link...what do you think? Is this good for Vince, or a trap?

Vince Deserves to show what he's made of..
Vince had a rough stretch with all the stuff he went through. I’d like to see him start and see him actually compete without having the mop up duty on his shoulders. I think Bud Adams is right in pressuring fisher.

I don't think this is good for Vince.
As you say, I am not sure how on board Fisher is and the offense does not really suit Vince’s skill set. Further, Fisher is not one to be creative offensively and because he may not be willing to make changes to help Vince be effective, I can see Vince stuggling.

Exactly
The only hope is that Fisher doesn’t have a lot to lose. In times past he would throw caution to the wind and go Glanville on someone. I think if they even want to sell some tickets then Fisher needs to open up and let Vince be Vince.

I don't see this working out...
But then I thought the same thing the last time Vince replaced Collins and he almost got them to the playoff.
I almost feel like he in a no-win situation. If he plays poorly his career might be done. If he plays well he is likely stuck with the Titans, which unless they change coaching philosophies (which would be unlikely if he plays well) will mean he will always be underutilized.

I disagree...
not because it is a good situation to go into… its not. But they are playing Jacksonville this week, not the Colts. Jacksonville is 3-3 and has only 5 picks this season. Hopefully Vince can show some of the flash that he did in his first two seasons, and pull out this win. If he can lead them to their first win of the season, it might give him some wiggle room to make some mistakes. Really, he shouldn’t feel TOO much pressure (although he will), because after starting 0-6, expectations should be pretty low.

This isn't a no-win situation for Vince.
If he does in fact pull together the offense enough that it no longer looks awful, great. But it’s going to be hard to do that without coaching buy-in, and when the owner’s going Steinbrenner on the coaches, it’s tough to imagine much buy-in exists.

It will work if and only if Vince has his mind right
He can overcome coaching deficiencies, lack of trust, etc., if he has the right attitude. He just needs to step into this knowing that it’s not about him; it’s about his team and doing whatever he can to help his team achieve its goals.
He needs to be ready to take responsibility if he doesn’t play well, and he needs to know that most people will give the credit for any success he has to someone else. If he can handle that and keep his eyes on the prize, he’ll be fine. If he allows himself to become distracted by the fans or the Fisher/Adams drama or the media, he’s in trouble already. I choose to believe that he has grown up and is ready to take this on the way he used to take on every doubter.

Good Read...
I think he needs to get in Romo’s face about stringing him out and not go passive aggressive over it. Miles Austin is ripping it, so Roy and Romo need to get this thing ironed out. The Cowboys would be sick with Roy and Miles at full tilt.

When I watched the Cowboys vs. Falcons...Romo didn't look like he trusted Roy at all...

Wasn't it Roy who burned Romo with pass distribution bitch job last year?
Maybe there is a lingering rub. I’m just saying.

Could be....
whatever it is they need to get it worked out. Romo had a terrible game 2 weeks ago where he left 2 of his receivers strung out high over the middle. Roy took a hard shot right to the ribs and had to leave the game. Romo is Romo….he looks great, then he looks like Jessica w/o makeup.

No lingering rub
From all the reports I’ve read they put in a lot of time together working out over the summer. Roy will have a breakout game here pretty soon, especially with teams finally having to cover the second WR, Miles Austin.

The FIRST receiver, Miles Austin.

I despise the Cowboys with the vast majority of my being
But I want Big Roy and Ware to do well. It’s obvious why I love RW, but Ware I’ve been watching since he caught my eye in a big upset by Troy over Mizzou a few years back. The kids was an absolute beast, and I had been crossing my fingers that either he or Derrick Johnson would end up with the Chiefs that draft. Turned out to be DJ, but I’d have been thrilled either way.

That was one of the CBs, sticking up for TO. They were saying the Witten gets all the passes even in practice.

His career depends on playing THIS year
Might be a slight overstatement but I think his career depends on it…he has not proved he can consistently play the QB position i.e. make good NFL decisions, read defenses
Colin Cowherd had a good comment on the situation in Nashville…the season is over…why not give Vince the keys to the car…they have a pretty good O-line, so he is getting a fair shot…see if he can play week in and week out as an NFL QB…if he can, then you think about resigning him…if he can and they dont resign him then Vince at least can get a job with another team
by trueorangeblood on Oct 27, 2009 3:24 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Mike Vick got a fair shot in Atlanta because the line was okay and there was a big investment in WRs
Can’t say the same about Vince. His line has been good at times, but when was the last time they had even a decent receiver on the team?
by burntorangehorn on Oct 27, 2009 3:43 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I actually think Kenny Britt is a pretty good reciever...but that's about it.
by mccoy12 on Oct 27, 2009 3:48 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Exactly right
Britt is gonna be special, but after that it’s C list receivers…
Vince needs what he had at Texas (and really what every good team has): a veteran O line (check) and a good TE (crumpler and scaife) and a good RB (best in the league) and a good deep threat to stretch the D
give him the keys and see if he wrecks the family car again! it’s the only way we will know

I hope that car....
makes it out of the shop by Sunday, cuz right now I’m not sure it’s road worthy.

a couple flat tires
lost big haynesworth, which was huge no pun intended
and the secondary is banged up
other than that its the same team as last years right? air up the tires and give VY the keys!
by trueorangeblood on Oct 27, 2009 10:02 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Really?
I watched Britt at Rutgers, and the kid was obviously a physical guy, but really didn’t seem to have the head to be a good receiver. Tiquan Underwood usually seemed to be a better guy.
Honestly, I wouldn’t say Britt is any better than Tyrone Calico ever was.
by burntorangehorn on Oct 27, 2009 4:59 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
To my knowledge, he's really stepped up his game.
by mccoy12 on Oct 27, 2009 5:25 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Well, he is averaging a little under 50yds./game
That’s actually fairly decent for a rookie wideout, even an early pick. I sure do hope the guy turns into a great long-term connection for Vince, because I don’t want Vince to have to pin his comeback hopes on catching on as a backup to a team where he’s not suited to play.
by burntorangehorn on Oct 27, 2009 8:45 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Here’s to hoping VY can show why he was a #3 overall pick, why he won 8 games his rookie year, and why he deserves a shot somewhere. And then Tennessee ships him off somewhere that he can compete. Anytime you get playing time in the NFL, you have the opportunity to make it a good thing. It’ll be up to VY if he indeed gets to start.
Sometimes the impossible can become possible if you're AWESOME!
by ZeroIndulgence on Oct 27, 2009 3:59 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Part of this is just about money.
Collins has a two-year $14 mil deal.
VY is getting $5 mil this year, counts $14.2 million next year.
That’s $33.2 over the two years.
Tennessee can cut their losses significantly if they can make some definitive decisions. They have to know if VY can play; he doesn’t even need to win that many games. If he can’t play, then his trade value will plummet.
Remember, Fisher has been with the Titans a long time, since the Houston days, and his butt is probably on the line as well. At this point, this shouldn’t be about personalities…it’s just business. Cold and cruel for all involved.
The poll that I created when I blogged about Vince and the Future in June has some relevance. All those questions look like they will be answered.

“Young is affordable for the Titans this season with a salary of $2.16 million and a salary cap hit of $4.63 million. But he is due a $4.25 million roster bonus in 2010 with a $7.5 million base salary that will cost $14.21 million against the cap — too much for a mere backup quarterback.”

I think this can be good. This is a different situation, but in his rookie season, the Titans were 0-5, and he went 8-3 as a starter. He has done it before and hopefully can do it again.

Too bad for VY
only thing he has going for him is his career W-L. That’s going to take a huge dive this season.

Josh Freeman gets a chance to start for winless Tampa Bay so why not VY at Tennessee?
Maybe Vince can get traded to the Vikings after this season. Favre can’t possibly stick around for more than a year (can he?) and can you imagine VY and AD in the backfield together?
