Seastrunk and Temple on ESPNU tonight..

Hey, y'all. Long time reader and first time poster. I'll try to make sure I go by all the rules but if there is something that I am lacking in normal blog protocol please don't hesitate to let me know.

Temple and Belton are playing tonight on ESPNU. As I write this there are about 2 minutes left in the first half and in my opinion Seastrunk has looked only above average. He has one 5 yard touchdown run and I think 30 - 40 yards total on the night. I am with the majority of people on this site when I say I believe its a good idea that for the most part we have slowed or roll on recruiting Seastrunk. I think he is a tad overrated based off of this and other observations and is a bit of a drama queen as well. Granted it would be nice to have him for the slashing ability and how his skill would translate to our offense (he certainly looks limited in Temple's Wing T), but I would rather not take the baggage that comes with it.

Have at it BONers.

case, connor, gilbert, ash, they can’t all be the starter. or can we go USC style and have senior year starters for like 4 years in a row.

Agreed

He has looked pretty impressive and they have mentioned several times over how he has an affection for Colt McCoy. That would leave me to believe he has an affection for Texas as well, especially since he is only an hour north of Austin. I know our number 1 target, and GOBR’s 2011 QB crush has been JW Walsh of Denton Guyer. I wonder where we currently stand with both prospects.

BTW, very end of the game and Temple Qb threw a lateral pass to Seastrunk. Seastrunk didn’t catch it and just let it bounce and Belton returned it for a TD. Seastrunk was just standing there during the return and got blasted.

Nice.

Thanks for posting — good first effort. Not a fan of the Temple running back at this point, but I’m not sure how much talent he really has around him. Whatever.

As for Ash and Walsh, I generally prefer Walsh because he’s a big better runner, but Ash is bigger and has a better arm and solid athleticism. Wish I could have watched the game tonight, but I think the Longhorns are in solid shape with both of them. Both came to summer camp and Ash received some extra attention from the coaching staff, so he may be their preference at this point.

Other than that, it’s going to come down to who gets an offer and if they are willing to come into a pretty loaded quarterback situation. Personally, I’m not sure if I see either one doing that because they could have better options to play earlier in good programs, so one of them will probably have to fall in love with Texas.

Seastrunk Ship Has Sailed

ESPN reported he is considering 5 schools and Texas was not listed among them. He still had some great offers, including LSU, USC, Auburn, and I think Florida. I have not heard officially that Texas has pulled his offer, but I imagine they have. Seastrunk was quoted as saying he did not know if Texas was still interested in him – which is sort of an interesting comment.

With the top RB in the country expected to commit to Auburn, I would think Seastrunk will fall out of love with the Tigers. LSU would seem like a more logical choice.

No need to bash the guy’s skills at this point. Just sounds like sour grapes to me. Texas fans were crazy in love with him back when he said he was still interested.

Still a Blaine Irby fan

I don't think many people were

bashing him. I was giving an honest assessment of him after watching a full game and I think many people did the same.

Not impressed...

I saw the first half of the game and for the exception of one run in which he juked and created about 8 yards on his own, I came away unimpressed. As fast as his times have been noted, he did not seem that quick to me in a live game. It could be that Belton’s D was good, but I feel that Seastrunk is just a tad overrated. I was actually impressed by the fullback for Temple, Derrick Davis; that kid was a beast running inside and lowering the boom on most of his would be tacklers. It was more impressive because it was obvious that his line was not that good. According to his vitals, the guy is six foot and walking around 250, and was very mobile, not fast, but quick. I think if they would have used him solely as a fullback/tailback, he would have been even more productive.

IMO

Ash was excellent. His receivers were awful. He routinely put the ball directly into the receivers hands—I can’t tell you how many dropped passes he had—I lost count at 4 and it was probably around a dozen. I never realized how crappy receivers can change the stats for a QB. Gilbert was lucky to have good receivers at Lake Travis.

Temple was interesting in that they passed only a few times the whole game. No wonder Seastrunk gets so many yards. Seastrunk also lost the game for Temple on a lateral pass that hit him in the hands and he dropped it. Inexcusable. He acted like it was a forward pass but Belton’a Darius White (ironic name) picked it up and ran it back. Very heads up play for him. Very poor play by Seastrunk. I did not know he had such bad hands.

That said about his bad hands, I thought he did seem explosive on little plays through the middle that he would find the hole and get 5 or 6 on a nothing play. Plus, if he gets any open room he is a threat to score. His vision and burst of speed is really exceptional.

I was watching the chemistry of the Temple team to see how they treat Seastrunk—seemed like they all pretty much ignore him.

Texas is ignoring him and we have no interest. He blew his chances with us. He is shopping the west coast now too—UCLA, Cal and Oregon. I find it interesting that Trovon Reed is no longer tagging along with him. I think Reed is going to LSU or Auburn, and he is just waiting to announce at the Army game. Seastrunk will probably go the same place, but he is just taking the trips for fun. He is only allowed 5 officials, so not sure who is paying for all his traveling.

I think Ash has great potential to fill out and become stronger. He also had good feet.
