Muschamp's 'hit or miss' Texas D...
Saw this in a comment thread about who should be Georgia's next DC should they get romped by Florida this weekend.
On a side note. I know Muschamp isn’t coming. But can someone seriously explain how the fact that our offense always torched his D was the sole reason not to hire him. Wouldn’t he be coaching against the other teams in the SEC rather than our offense every game? Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t he helm some pretty stout Ds at LSU? Though I know lately his Texas D has been a little hit and miss. But I never really understood the UGA torched him theory.
I know most college football fans are pretty uninformed about other teams, especially those in other conferences, but what the hell has this guy been smoking to call our D 'hit and miss' lately? Ok, last year, we weren't near as stout as this year, but it was Boom's first year on the job for crissakes and we would would have gone undefeated if our offense didn't shit the bed that first half in Lubbock.

Though I'm not sure what Muschamp's numbers were last season
As far as yards/play nationally. Probably pretty mediocre, since it was his first year and the offenses in the big 12 south were off the charts.
Any sane Georgia fan would be eyeing Muschamp for HC, not just DC.

I know this is a Georgia fan, but since when did 'lately' mean last year?
I just found it funny that the guy was buying into the whole SEC defense=great, Big 12 defense=sorry without even bothering to look at the reality. The ‘lately’ for this Texas team has been our championship quality defense rather than the offensive juggernaut of last year. The ‘lately’ for Georgia shouldn’t be about getting a new DC, it should be about the hotseat Richt is finding himself squarely on. They could quite easily miss a bowl game if they don’t win against either Auburn or Kentucky at home. (Florida and Georgia Tech are losses and they still have Tennessee Tech as an assured 5th victory.)

Reality and the SEC fan...

I know you didn’t mean it that way, but reading that sentence gave me the first out-loud laugh I’ve had all day. Then I realized that you’re not around them 24/7/365 like me, that you might actually believe that some of them might be rational, sane, deliberate in their thought process…
Even under those circumstances, it’s still damn funny.

How Much Would They Offer Him?

I could see these guys coming hard for Muschamp. I know he’s happy, but would 3 mil + a year at his alma mater be too good to pass up? Should we even worry?

hit and miss defense at Texas?
Lately? Like Missouri putting up 7? OU getting 13? Colorado blistering us for 14, all in the first half when the offense was (nope; not going there; only clean thoughts).
Yeah, Will’s “D” let OU score 35 a year and three games ago. The same OU that averaged 55 on the rest of the Big 12. Gee, don’t you just hate it when facts get in the way of the point you’re making.

Dude, it's an SEC site/thread/poster
They think their fart don’t stink over there. You’ve never met a bunch of losers who are so in love with the idea of “conference loyalty” than these SEC morons. Seriously, you’d think everytime an SEC team won a game that they got free donuts or something.
In-VINCE-able.

So, the SEC .....
…. hasn’t won 6 of the past 13 Nat’l Championships??
--- All roads to the Big-XII Championship lead through OU/RRS. It's not just another game! We're all about championships here. ---

Dude, I didn't say anything about their conference
I was clearly talking about THEIR FANS and their silly conference-obsessed loyalty. My Horns play in the Big 12 but I don’t go around acting like the Big 12 is my mom and dad. These SEC morons take it to the next level.
In-VINCE-able.

This guy is an idiot... Just check the facts
Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t he helm some pretty stout Ds at LSU?
In his five years as a coordinator at Auburn and LSU, Muschamp’s defenses have ranked among the nation’s top 10 in total defense five times and scoring defense three times, while ranking in the top 15 in scoring defense the other two.
Muschamp coached linebackers at LSU in 2001 and served as defensive coordinator and linebackers for the Tigers from 2002-04. During his tenure, LSU won the 2003 National Championship and two SEC titles (2001, 2003). His defense led the nation in total defense (252.0 ypg) and scoring defense (11.0 ppg) and played a key role in the Tigers claiming the 2003 National Championship. That unit topped the SEC in every major defensive category and also ranked second nationally in pass efficiency defense (89.8 rating) and third in rushing defense (67.0 ypg).
In 2004, LSU ranked third nationally in total defense (256.9 ypg), fifth in passing defense (157.2 ypg) and seventh in rushing defense (99.8 ypg). Muschamp’s defense also allowed just 17.1 points per game (14th NCAA). In 2002, he led a defense that ranked eighth nationally in total defense (266.8 ypg) and 15th in scoring defense (18.3 ppg). The Tigers led the SEC and ranked fifth nationally in passing efficiency defense (93.9 rating) and ranked second nationally allowing just 152.7 passing yards per game that year.
During Muschamp’s two seasons at Auburn, where he coached the secondary while coordinating the defense, the Tigers held 21 of their 26 opponents to 20 points or fewer. No. 21 Auburn, which knocked off No. 16 Clemson, 23-20, in the Chick-fil-A Bowl, finished the season ranked sixth nationally in scoring defense (16.9 ppg), total defense (297.9 ypg) and passing defense (173.2 ypg). His unit held Heisman Trophy finalist Darren McFadden of Arkansas to a season-low 43 yards rushing. Auburn also held five of its last seven opponents to 10 points or fewer.
In 2006, Muschamp’s Auburn defense ranked seventh nationally in scoring defense (13.9 ppg) and allowed just 21 TDs on the year, which ranked eighth nationally. That unit also allowed just 292.3 yards (19th NCAA) of offense per game.

Yes he did helm some pretty stout Ds at LSU and also at Auburn. And now he is continuing that tradition here at UT. And im pretty sure there was no “torching” of his defense by Georgia

South's Oldest Rivalry: 2006-2007
2006: Georgia 37 – Auburn 15
2007: Georgia 45 – Auburn 20
As per my previous post on the topic, it does help to look at the facts. I’d say Boom got “torched” — at least by UGA. Being a Boom disciple myself (he’s the next great, great coach of this game, IMHO), those numbers are hard to take, but facts is facts. The incestuous nature of the Auburn/Georgia series defies rational explanation sometimes.
More importantly, what Mack saw when eyed Boom’s resume was his overall record at LSU & Auburn, along with his record against Urban Meyer’s spread @ Florida in ’06 & ’07.
2006: Auburn 27, Florida 17 (0 UF points in 2nd half)
2007: Auburn 20, Florida 17 (0 UF points in 1st half)
