Not sure what the point spread was last week. And, before anyone jumps on me, I know, win and we’re in. #1, #2, or #3 doesn’t really matter.
Most interesting: Tennesse, at 4-4, got 4 points. How can anyone believe the other UT is a top 25 team? I’d say maybe top 35 or 40. Just weird voting.

I just like the fact that we are getting some more respect nationally. I’m sick of these SEC teams barely scraping by less-than-impressive teams and the national media still singing their praises, while beating up the Horns for having slow starts, etc.
Maybe it is just me… I have to skim all the crap out there every day for the Daily Roundup. I’m more sensitive?

No, I agree with you Dime. Texas is finally get their act together on offense, to go along with a scary D and opportunistic special teams. Neither Florida nor Alabama has been impressive in recent weeks. If we continue to show the learning curve on offense (and Malcolm finally becomes the dominant deep threat PB thinks he should be) then I like our chances to get a bookend trophy in our favorite stadium.

Agreed
I hate the SEC slobber-fest. Especially when it contradicts what they say about Texas.
I actually watched the Tebow’s vs. Georgia and was almost to the point of vomiting because of the ridiculous media coverage Tebow gets. He’s good, but too often they want to take out an “o” from good. It’s beyond out of control.
by GoHorns on Nov 1, 2009 1:25 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Tim Tebow is a good kid and we need to be careful about distinguishing between the guy and the media coverage. I agree the coverage is out of control and I’m sick of hearing about all the good deeds. Tebow seems like a genuinely nice person and may be a little tired of it all by now.
What I cannot understand is how the national media could swoon all over Tebow and not Bradford. Sam Bradford was a Heisman winner and a wonderful person, but the preseason hype wasn’t like it was for Tebow. Bias? I think so. Now that point is moot, but I use it as a comparison.

Gazelles are too!
Well, they have been all along. And will likely stay there as Penn State has no more challenges left in the Big 10. If we win in Ames on Wednesday we will probably go undefeated this season and seriously challenge PSU for the top seed in the post-season, as our RPI is stronger than theirs.
Not to start looking too far ahead, but how amazing would it be to have my two favorite teams challenging for national championships in December and January?

Texas Lost Votes
Florida gained 20 first place votes at the expense of Alabama (19) and Texas (3). This is after beating Georgia (4-4) on a neutral field 41-17 while Texas beat Oklahoma State (6-2 including a win against Georgia) on the road 41-14. Texas lost 12 total votes while Florida somehow stayed the same. And someone couldn’t make up their minds as to who the top team should be (or died as far as I know). There is one fewer total first place vote this week than last week.
Despite the move up in the polls, I contend it shows disrespect for Texas and continued overestimation of Florida for producing virtually the same results over teams who have already sorted out which is more dominant. And I say, “boo, hiss” to the voters.

It was getting pretty irritating
The love of the overhyped freshmen was unreal. People were acting like Matt Barkley was some stud whose absence was the reason USC lost to the winless-in-2008 Huskies.

Amazing
I posted the fanpost to the FOX story within seconds of when they put in on their website, but the lazy bastards still haven’t posted the actual BCS standings.

Nice to see Texas at #2 and....
be rewarded for impressive back to back road wins in hostile environments.

BCS
Sagarin’s 2 pronged computer poll has UT 2nd in the predictor part and 9th in the elo-chess part.BCS uses elo-chess.Kinda sucks…….cost us several points in computer %. WTF is elo-chess?

It's the version that removes the margin-of-victory component.
Anyone can feel free to correct me on this, but I believe the “ELO-CHESS” rating is a chess world ranking methodology produced by Sagarin.
I see a lot of people trash Sagarin, but I think he’s the best in the business.

I see a lot of people trash the fact...
that we need to decipher computer rankings, a plethora of polls, and coaches that do not watch the games to rely upon crowning a “champion.” What a disaster looming for BCS honks…

Nah, it'd be much better to give a one- or two-loss team, or a non-conference-champion, a shot at the national title

You mean like OUsux in 2003?

You're acting like that couldn't be fixed with minor changes
Rather than scrapping the entire system. Making tweaks to the current system would be quite reasonable. For example, require that coaches use a secure key to submit polls, and don’t open the submission window until after all games for that week have been finished. That would have obviously solved the problem in that case.
And by the way, OU was a one-loss team, but so was USC. The problem is when one-loss teams get in over undefeated teams, but I’ve already posted my solution to that. It would be a playoff, but would exclude all teams that have more losses than the team with the least losses in the entire nation. That is, if there are two undefeated teams in the nation, even if one is Hawaii and the other is TCU, those two face off for the national championship.

Pre-bowl game?
Wouldn’t that mean Hawaii ‘07 would’ve been the champ? Thankfully UGA got to play them.

I would consider adaptation of this system contingent on a conference realignment
Irreverence for the current conferences is indeed a fatal flaw of mine.

Or Texas last year?
If you're so sure of what it ain't, how about telling us what it am!

Truth is, UT didn't win all their games
Neither did Oklahoma. Florida didn’t either. That doesn’t mean there should be a playoff; it means a few other things, though, like that the Big 12 has a pretty dumb tie-breaker procedure. That, not the BCS itself, should be what has drawn the ire of Texas fans. Oh, and OU as well.

it didn't if it was the lowest score
Top and bottom computer scores thrown out, no?

RB
only dropped USC one spot after getting clowned at Oregon.
We got a pretty big overall boost from the computers.
