Let's talk about someone else's problems....
Biggest problem I have with this season so far... is that we've got so much going right for us, it's hard to find what to talk about. Queue another GD bashing session in 3... 2... 1...
Well, we're not the only team with woes. Our counterparts over in the SEC have troubles of their own, and they're not too far removed from ours.
From an article on the Palm Beach Post regarding Florida Gators lack of offensive production:
Meyer said factors holding the Gators back include:
* The transition from Dan Mullen to Steve Addazio at offensive coordinator - plus introducing two other new coaches on the offensive staff - has not been as smooth as expected.
* Percy Harvin and Louis Murphy, who are playing in the NFL, have been difficult to replace.
* The losses of both starting tackles, Jason Watkins and Phil Trautwein, were underestimated.
* Opposing defenses are using formations and alignments UF has never seen
Florida is down to 6.6 yards / play, down from 7.1 last year... 10% down.
They're scoring 35 points per game, instead of 43.6... 20% down
In conference, their scoring is even more down... They're producing at 65% of the points that they did last year.
They're allowing on average, 1 more tackle for a loss per game and 1 more sack per game.
Who's having more trouble with their offense this season, Florida or Texas?

The main difference as I see it...
Florida has been struggling since the 2nd half of the season, whereas Texas is finding more of a rhythm (while still having the freedom to hash out what works best for the bowl game).
I think the difficulties are similar in their significance, but we have a slight edge. Florida does a great job adjusting, however, something that we know GD’d GD has some trouble with. That could be the deciding factor.

The real question is...
which fan-base complains about it more?

UT's stats
Texas is down to 5.8 ypp from 6.6 (our offense last year is Florida’s “off year” in that metric)
More staggeringly Texas is down to 4.5 ypp in conference vs. last years 6.5 ypp in conference
Texas is down to 41 ppg this year from 42.4 last year (however, UT played 5 ranked teams last year and may only have two – OSU and Bowl Opp – this year)
Scoring in conference is down to 34 ppg vs. 41.1 last year (though I expect the end of the season to increase that number)

our scoring has also been boosted by our special teams and defensive plays, we’re #1 in the nation in non-offensive scoring.

Apples vs Oranges
It seems (sorry no stats) that last year the Horns relied alot more on ball control offense. That means alot more plays run and alot more 1st downs. I know the the 3rd down conversion percentage is down from last year.
Plus this years defense is light years better.

Non-offensive TDs play directly into this (TOP and plays run).
It’s probably not the entire difference since our 3rd down conversion worsened. But a drive that lasts 10 seconds and is one play because it’s a pick six or punt return will make the other team’s TOP significantly longer than it would be if we had to drive for the touchdown.

Somehow Texas isn't excelling on offense
But we’re doing as well as anyone else making first downs. Maybe we’ve got less “big plays”?
