Bob Stoops looking to be next ND coach?
He's been one of the names bandied about for Weis's replacement, and now the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that he has told people he'd be interested in talking to ND.
Thoughts? Is this legit, or is he angling for more money from OU? If it is legit, would you rather he stayed at OU or left to try to salvage the Irish?
I am actually a grad student at ND, and I do not want Stoops coaching the Irish. I'm pulling for Cincy's Brian Kelly myself.

Personally...
I really enjoy putting a beatdown on Stoops in October, and I would hate to see him leave for “greener” pastures, but then again is ND really greener pastures?
If he goes, he goes. We’ll still destroy the crimson and cream come October, regardless who’s on the sidelines without a chin.
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.
It's greener pastures if
ND offers him more money and OU is cranky with him about their less than stellar season.
In my opinion, nothing printed in the Chicago Sun-Times sports section is legit,
though it became marginally better after Mariotti left. The fact that the article mentions two of the two of the nine highest paid coaches in college football, one coming off a fresh loss to Northwestern, makes me think the “source” is a half empty bottle of Wild Irish Rose in South Bend.
As for the rumor itself, I would love to see Stoops try and put the Irish back together again. Academic oversight, meddling alumni and unrelenting national media pressure? It sounds like a recipe for classic schadenfreude. I’ll contribute money to whatever fund is necessary to help make it happen.
As for the prospect of OU going through a coaching search when Texas is at crescendo, and overcoming the reputation of exiling one of the most successful coaches in college football? High comedy.

Doesn't matter
I support whoever is playing Oklahoma and whoever is playing Notre Dame (no offense). Bob can go or stay.
Why the Notre Dame hate?
Honest question. I understanding hating schools that cheat, like ou and usc, and schools that cheat and are bitchy little girls, like a&m, or with dirty players, but why ND? weis is an arrogant fool, but the hate precedes that. what is up?
There are plenty of reasons
They take up a network that could have better football on every Saturday they are home.
They get an automatic pass into the BCS if they are in the top 8 (this was more egregious before they added a game)
Their QB announced his intention to go to ND and win 4 national championships at the college football hall of fame after arriving in a stretch hummer limo.
Rudy
and many more.
Too good to join a conference. The BCS special notre dame rule, the touchdown jesus
what else do you want.
The "too good to join a conference" thing is a biggy
Their sense of self-importance is so great, and NBC is so dumb, that they refuse to join a conference in football.

In addition to what the others have said:
The fact that Notre Dame apparel is every bit as prevalent as Yanker apparel. I’ve seen high school girls wear Notre Dame hats, shirts, etc. despite their not knowing a damn thing about sports or having any interest in the school’s academics. They wear it because they think wearing Notre Dame gear is cool. This isn’t as big a deal as the other items people have mentioned, but it’s really very annoying.

Why?
Why do they get their own network what have they done to deserve that?
Why do they get an auto into the BCS based on the number of crappy teams they beat?
Why dont they man up and join a conference?
Why do they feel that college football owes them anything?
The answer to all of the above is because ND feels entitled and they are getting just what they deserve! Who cares who coaches them they are done for the next 10 years.
Why to hate ND
1. Bad football but always on TV
2. Bad football but always overrated, the fact that someone was on talk radio last week saying that Notre Dame would make a BCS game with 3 losses makes you sick.
3. Players hyped, why is Clawson considered a legit Heisman winner when players on other schools are not considered beacuse they are from “lesser” schools. ND is awful this year with a signiture win over a bad Michigan team
at least
he would be going to a team that is used to losing bowl games.

I would love to see him go
I hate how well he has recruited Texas. Would be nice if OU slipped a little in that area. For years I have hoped he’d go to the NFL.

Agree Wholeheartedly
While I can’t stand the guy, he can coach and recruit. He has owned the Big XII for 10 years – and I think his departure would finalize the fall of the Sooners – and I think Mack/Will would have their 10 year run.
It doesn't matter who coaches Notre Dame
Lou Holtz left because the school tightened the academic requirements up so much that they won’t ever get the talent USC, Texas, Bama, Florida, etc. get. It is what it is.. Some of the greatest athletes in college football history aren’t the best students. Notre Dame will go nowhere, save a couple token wins here and there, until they open the door to lesser student athletes..
sounds like ND needs Harbaugh
Considering what he’s been able to do at Stanford, with athletes who have to get in to the school separately from whether or not they will play football.
Harbaugh wouldn't leave that new bathroom of his
Your tongue can't repel flavor of that magnitude!!

Don't think that would happen considering
what happened last time Notre Dame hired Stanford’s coach.
I think Harbaugh would be good
The people over at College Football Talk seem to think Harbaugh would consider going back to Michigan, but after he commented on Michigan’s academics, I think that bridge has been burned until such time as the athletic department leadership leaves. Don’t think it’ll happen.
I consider it much more likely that Kelly or Harbaugh would go to Notre Dame. Kelly would seem an ideal fit, but I hope he doesn’t leave Cincinnati for a while. Much like USF has helped kill Florida State, I think Cincinnati could help kill Ohio State. I’d love to see Harbaugh turn out to be a guy who is happy to stay at Stanford, too. I have to think he’d be more likely to leave for the NFL than another school, but I really hope that neither happens.

iwould like to see him go for the sheer site of the comedy that would ensue.
stoops is a horrible person and very much sucks at life. wherever he goes, i will forever hate them the same that i hate anything associated with oklahoma. i cant and refuse to get over that there is still a society here in america that idolizes thievery, lying and cheating. they are the epitome of the evilness of the world.
If You See Kay, Oh You
Well, let's see
Stoops won a national title nine years back and has played for three more since then at OU.
Notre Dame last played for a national title when, uh, the single wing was in vogue. Maybe the wishbone.
OU can do anything it wants, including get the NY Times to do its PR, get jobs for players’ moms, sign players under indictment or worse, play guys who get paid by car dealers (if they can keep the media out of town). Notre Dame plays by the rules.
OU can recruit, sign and play guys who can’t spell cat if you spot them the ‘C’ and the ‘A’. ND signees have to be able to dissect a cat and name all the parts (even the little ones).
OU has to play Texas, Texas Tech, Nebraska, and two other ranked teams every year, plus a conference title game if they have a good year. OU gets to play Purdue, Navy, Nevada and half the Big East.
OU pays as well as Notre Dame. Hmm. . . just wondering what I’d do if I had the option.
I'd like him to stay at OU
the rivalry is always better when both programs are among the best in the country.
3/19/2009 - Dogus Balbay Made a Three-Pointer. Never Forget.
Muschamp Has His Number
Stoops has never defeated a Muschamp defense. Another force of shear Will power. I hope he stays.
Next question, does Sumlin then go to ou?
Come to think of it
That could be the worst thing to happen for us. He definitely has the skills, but more importantly has a strong recruiting anchor in Texas which will be a bigger draw for top tier consideration over the likes of a Kelly or a Harbaugh.
Notre Dame isn't a step up from OU anymore
I mean, I probably dislike OU as a program more than I do ND, but that’s based largely on Stoops. If one is looking for a place to build a winning program, where kids actually want to go there because of the football team’s tradition, OU beats ND in that regard. Very few people under the age of 30, and certainly no high school recruits today, know of Notre Dame’s winning football tradition through any means except for the grayhairs who swear that the Fighting Irish were actually great at some point.

Its not gonna happen.....
And I want “Stoopify” right where he is. He has lost his killer instinct, he no longer is innovative, can’t win bowls and can’t beat us. A Brian Kelly type young gun would bring all of that back to the sooners.
Thanks but no thanks…..I like it just the way it is.
Go horns !
I'd rather you just say thank you and went on your way.

If Stoops were to leave . . .
. . . Jim Harbaugh would be the natural replacement. Anyone who goes for two up 48-21 in the fourth quarter is clearly auditioning for a position in Norman.
Stoops at Notre Dame
My cousin put it beautifully when hearing about the possibility of Stoops to South Bend, “Notre Dame can’t hire the Devil!”
Either way, it’d be very interesting.
