Shipley will replace Monroe on the depth chart as the Longhorns' kickoff returner this week.

Not sure I like this move
Obviously Ship has the big play ability and sure hands you want from a kick returner, but how many times per game do you want to risk your entire offense? After that hit he took against Baylor I would have thought Mack would have nightmares and cold sweats about Ship getting hurt.
What happened to Hales anyway? I thought that kick returner was going to be his speciality.

Hales is busy dropping all of GG's passes in the 2nd team offense.
I don’t see why we don’t replace Monroe with Goodwin (speed for speed). I admit, Shipley is fast/quick/whatever you want to call him, but I would also rather not risk him outside of offense and punt returns.
At least let Goodwin have a shot at it back there with Malcolm Williams. Oh well, I trust Mack to eventually do the right thing at this point in his career.

Williams and Goodwin:
Thunder and Lightning, KR style.

On the flip side...
As the defense continues to tighten up, no one is going to kick off to us more than 2 or 3 times per game (including the start of a half). I don’t see it as such a signficant move.
Hook'em!!

as well as most teams are either kicking away from DJ, or out the back of the end zone, no one wants him to return kicks. that’s why he always looks so pissed everytime he’s told to take a knee in the endzone… he never gets a chance to return ‘em anymore. it’s only going to get worse against teams with a kicker who can boot it out the back every time. I also don’t see much problem with moving Shipley there, teams will probably do the same to him as DJ.

I will be suprised if UT doesn't get good to great field position off kickoffs this weekend.
I’ve been to 4 KU games this season and seen how bad their kickoff coverage is in person. Not only do they kick it short (often not even within the 20 yard line), they don’t sky it so the coverage isn’t there when the ball is.
I hope there’s only one kickoff by KU, so I’m not going to say we’ll get a TD, but at least good field position.
I’d rather put one of our other speed guys in back there until the big 12 title game or the MNC. I’d rather not risk Ship until then, and it’d be good to get Goodwin or Hales some more experience and more touches. Maybe Fozzy, if he’s not going to be the #2 back.
I’m all for getting our super fast-game changers more touches, but until the games start getting really tough (maybe Neb, and definitely the MNC) I’d like to limit the hits on Ship.
