Last week's ballot

Dropped Out: Stanford (#15), Rutgers (#16), Wisconsin (#20), Arizona (#23).

Before you click through, recall that I am not one of the BON lawyers...

Star-divide

WHEREAS The 2009 Texas Longhorns football team has begun to kick some serious ass with both the offensive and defensive units, and

WHEREAS Despite Alabama and possibly Florida owning a slightly better resume, they routinely look like dog crap on offense (legal terms), and

WHEREAS I'm tired of having to rank Texas behind them when I think the 'Horns could take either of them just because of resume principals, and

WHEREAS I'm sick of being afraid to curse Texas by putting them #1 on my ballot, and

WHEREAS I don't believe that this team is susceptible to curses because of Muschamp's defense always, always showing up to play.

I HERE ASSERT that Texas is the best team in the country, and

LET IT BE KNOWN THAT Suck it, Tebow.  If Florida even makes it to Pasadena, we'll be waiting.

So here's why I did some of the other things I did on this ballot:

  1. Texas - The offense is coming around.  I thought we goofed around for much of the game and look how that turned out.
  2. Florida - When Tebow is faster than your whole defense, it's time to consider the move down to the FCS.
  3. Alabama - Run, run, run, punt.  No matter who has the ball.
  4. TCU - OMG!  They beat Wyoming by more than us?  They must be #1!  Just go to your BCS bowl and hope you get some team that's dejected to miss out on the national title like Utah did.
  5. Cincinnati - I can't tell if they played or had a bye week, but such is the Big East.
  6. Georgia Tech - Lurks
  7. Boise State - Would rank higher on a list of things I hate.
  8. Pittsburgh - Lurks
  9. Oregon - It wasn't pretty, but the win over a competent Arizona team means they've got to rank above anyone from the Big 10 at this point.
  10. Ohio State - Ahead of Iowa because...
  11. Iowa - ....they lost to Ohio State.  See what I did there?
  12. Okie State - Best chance to win over OU in Norman since I remember watching football, and possibly even a Fiesta Bowl invite.
  13. Penn State - The Spartans dine in hell.
  14. Virginia Tech - I would rather watch baseball.
  15. Miami (The only Miami that is relevant, like, ever) - I just noticed that North Carolina is way too low after putting Va Tech and Miami here.  Will fix in the final submission.  Suggestions?
  16. USC - Well, that's it, USC is now mathematically eliminated from the Rose Bowl.  Weird isn't it?  Ohio State might win one.
  17. Nebraska - When Nebraska plays, both teams are guaranteed to have good days on defense.
  18. Houston - Don't look now, but I have heard rumors that Sumlin is talking to OU's AD.  Now why would he do that?  Doesn't OU already have a coach? [/Stoops]
  19. Oregon State - Winner take all in the Civil War, huh?  Cool.  I'll Tivo that.
  20. Ole Miss - Big win.  But really tried to lose it at the end, there.
  21. Cal - Actually showed up for an important game.
  22. LSU -

o0o0o btw

anyone notice espn and all the other media mentioning tebow breaking the sec recorded for tds but no mention of mccoy becoming the winningest qb in college football history….hmmm sounds like they are really trying to not to sway heisman voters

by dubhookzem on Nov 22, 2009 5:23 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Wonder what the press would be if Tebow had broken that record instead of McCoy?

SEC backlash

breaking the crucial point. stop, it isn’t nearly that bad, otherwise everyone would be talking about it, rather than just on big 12 boards. espn put up mccoy’s record as a headline yesterday, and NOT TEBOW’S. get a freaking hold of yourselves.

You have to admit they stick to script though

1) Identify accomplishment of Colt McCoy
2) Say that Tebow would’ve got more credit
3) SEC/ESPN SUX

If you're so sure of what it ain't, how about telling us what it am!

Espn really, really does suck though.

Save for Feldman, and occasionally Maisel, the WWL perfectly plays the role of a mad Ahab of college football hyperbole willing to drown us in a cold ocean of Lou Holtz’s spittle for a glimpse of the white whale of ratings.

I am with the original poster here...

ESPN News didn’t mention McCoy’s record Sunday morning on its Bottom Line, neither as a major story or in the individual game notes. ‘The Lead’, their news headlines, mentioned the Big 12 champ game will be us and NU and that Tebow set the SEC touchdown record, but no mention of McCoy setting the wins record. They might have mentioned it in the highlights but then our segment was so brief I might have missed it. Bama, Florida, and TCU all got longer highlight segments than we did on ESPN News and they all played huge patsies in games that had no importance!

Maybe they changed it later, but in the real world of sports a conference TD record <<<<<<<<<<< than a national record for wins. ESPN spent all of last night and this morning giving Jimmy Johnson bjs for driving a car that won him four straight NASCAR cups…whoop-tee-do! Colt winning more football games in a sport played before the f-ing car was even invented gets what sounds like an updated mention later Sunday afternoon. ESPN is truly an afterthought for me. I don’t watch anything that isn’t an actual sporting event on the channel anymore and I really don’t even read much of their website any more. (Though with Gerry Hamilton on their Texas recruiting staff, I have been tempted to finally resubscribe to ESPN Insider.)

Most entertaining analyst comment heard Saturday...

“What will we talk about when Tebow graduates?”

Yes, they really said this. I was flipping between games so I don’t know which channel.

Finally, a ballot I can endorse

HB, you have outdone yourself. You glorious, glorious hater.

I second the motion. Tebow CAN SUCK IT!

Here is my gripe

For some reason the Big 10 has 3 teams in the top 13. Now stop a minute and really look at this. Ohio State lost to USC and Purdue (2 wins). Iowa and Penn State lost to Ohio State. I have to move Ohio State to no higher than 15 with the other two scattered behind them. I know no one seems to want to be in the top 15 and some are falling into it but for crying out loud, they have to earn it. This should be the year that after the top nine we just drop down to 15 and start again.

by Ohio Horn on Nov 22, 2009 9:01 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Ohio State has the country's ......

….. #5 scoring defense (higher than our #7) with 3 shutout victories. Early in the season, before USC suffered their injury losses, the Buckeyes lost a 3-point game to USC. Then there was the Purdue anomaly. The remainder of the season are all W’s.

They defeated 8-3 Wisconsin, 10-2 Penn State and 10-2 Iowa, How can anyone suggest they should be ranked lower than #10??

Because I have watched them play, watched who they play and watched their opponents play.

Their offense is weak to say the least. They have won with good defense against lesser teams. I know the Texas schedule isn’t exactly the toughest this year but does anyone really think that the big 10(11) is strong enough to warrant 3 teams in the top 13?

by Ohio Horn on Nov 23, 2009 12:29 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

You could have stopped there.

“They have won with good defense "

Most championship quality (they are the BigTen Champs – hardware in the trophy case and all) teams usually do win with good defense.

Okie Lite's in great shape

They could easily finish in the top ten, and the Fiesta Bowl invite’s looking very good for them. Anyone have a guess as to whether the Fiesta is more likely to go outside the affiliation for PSU or Iowa over the pokes?

by burntorangehorn on Nov 22, 2009 9:42 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Where, o'where....

…… is OU-Lite’s marquee victory? Is it 6-5 Georgia? How about 6-5 Aggie? Maybe 2-9 Rice……I guess they’ll have to hang their hat on a 7-point victory (at home) over a 7-4 Texas Tech squad. OU-Lite has to be the most overrated team on the board!

Normally I'd agree

But you have to admit that everything after the six undefeated teams is an inconsistent, watered-down gaggle of teams who would be marginal top-25 teams most seasons.

by burntorangehorn on Nov 23, 2009 8:18 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Um, with that being the litmus test for quality wins...

Texas does not look good regarding “marquee” victories. The fact of the matter is the Big XII outside of Nebraska, Texas and the aforementioned OK St is horrific. The horns are where they are based on last year…and I am very thankful for that this Thanksgiving.

Penn State beat no one...Iowa beat Penn State...so does that mean they beat no one?

At this point no teams have really great wins since there aren’t many 1-loss teams out there this year. Why is beating OK St any worse than beating Penn State? Penn State doesn’t even have a Georgia-like victory on its sched. But Penn State is the marquee victory for Iowa and Ohio State (and both of them lost to teams worse than Houston). This year only Georgia Tech and Pitt have one-loss and neither of them lost to a top team. LSU isn’t really looking like a quality win anymore and that is it except for the undefeated, none of whom have a win over a team with less than two losses. Ok State is hurt by their name. If they were Oklahoma they would be in the top 10 right now if their only losses were to Texas and Houston.

by Rickyspub on Nov 23, 2009 1:38 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

You're kidding...... right?

" If they were Oklahoma they would be in the top 10 right now if their only losses were to Texas and Houston."

Houston? Let that set in for awhile…….

Huh?......

“This year only Georgia Tech and Pitt have one-loss and neither of them lost to a top team.”

GaTech has played 4 teams in the BCS Top-25 – #18 Clemson, #15 Miami, #24 N.Carolina and #14 VaTech. Three of those games resulted in victories. Be darn thankful GaTech had that early season loss to Miami. Things could be a little dicey if GaTech were sitting there undefeated with 4 victories over BCS Top-25 opponents.

OU-Lite has played 2 teams in the BCS Top-25 – #3 Texas and #23 Houston. Both games resulted in losses.

The facts don’t substantiate your claim. GaTech, much more than OU-Lite, is quite deserving of their ranking. If you want to join me in claiming Penn State lacks a quality win, then please do so.

sure I'd tend to agree normally,

but they haven’t played all that spectacularly as of late, and im not sure but isn’t Zac Robinson still hurt? OU is going to go in there with a fire because lets face it for all its worth, yes big game bob has made all Horn fans happy, but he is like 63-2 at home, and no senior on that team is wanting to leave norman 6-6…I don’ think OSU stands a chance in this one personally..

I like OSU's chances

Considering that OU loses a guy to injury every time they turn around. Ryan Reynolds is now doubtful for the game as well. Pokes by 10.

Friday night

Boise v Nevada. Nevada has won 8 straight and rushed for 574 yards on 61 carries saturday out of their pistol. They have 3 1,000-yd rushers. They have the top four rushing games in FBS this season. And somehow they got shut out by Notre Dame 38-0 early this year. Such is the 2009 season.

In any case, it should be a dandy. We also need Kellen Moore to lose to help keep Colt’s record intact. He’s got 23 wins already and is just a soph.
