Do not wish VY to be a Texan
Expect Merrill Hodge to call in sick tomorrow.
For those who watched MNF, there were so many moments that made Longhorn fans smile. You were reminded why the CBS affiliate in Austin used to choose to air Titans games rather than Texans games when given the choice. Who knows if Vince will ever be in a Super Bowl, but we do know that every time he plays the Texans IN HOUSTON, that might as well be his Super Bowl. The icing on the cake tonight was to see the other Longhorns perform well and seemingly elevate their games and feed off of Vince. (How did UT send a FULLBACK to the NFL again?) ESPN's closing shot was VY hugging Studdard (a Texan) at midfield.
I'm happy to root for the Texans 14 games per season. Tonight after the game I was curious how the SB Nation blogs for the Titans (musiccitymiracles.com) and the Texans (battleredblog.com) were reacting to the outcome. It amazed me how many members on the Texans blog spoke negatively of VY and when comparing the two blogs, MCM mirrored BON in a way, in that their equivalent of Peter reached out to the Texans blog earlier this week, offering to answer any questions they may have about all things Titans this season. I feel sorry for any BON members who are diehard Texans fans, because the SB Nation blog available to you (BRB) is a pretty poor option. BRB mirrors more of an Aggie approach. The thread which began as an olive branch of sorts was capped off with this Texans fan's statement:
Do you find...the symmetry between what the Texans can do to the Titans’ season and what Steve McNair’s girlfriend did to his nap frighteningly similar?
Yay, sports.

Notice it received 7 recs and has yet to be moderated. In fact, the site's moderator endorses the statement.
Be thankful for what we have here at BON. And that VY is not a Texan.
There's plenty more. Here's the whole thread:

Aggie
You nailed it: I equate the Texans with Aggie fans. I feel badly for goingforthecorner, one our most outstanding contributors at BON.
You ain't hurt.
I will say, though
My impression of the main moderator at Battle Red Blog was that he’s a good guy, maybe even a Longhorns fan. Not sure why he let a comment like that stand.
You ain't hurt.
Somebody
Or some guy’s girlfriend, according to him, was actually threatening to slit the throats of Titans trolls who came by. Over. Reaction. The moderator should have put a stop to that immediately.

Aggies? Now that's below the belt.
Seriously, though, Tim at BRB is a great guy and writer (and Horn fan), but has a pretty strict policy of not banning people. The moderators there have a “let them play” attitude, which occassionally results in inflammatory comments. Mods usually steer clear of the comments when things get hairy, leaving it for the few posters who enjoy that sort of thing. That said, I still love BRB, and typically avoid contributing to those threads. Its fun reading for the most part. Plus, Tim and the others post damn good content the rest of the time.
While I find MDC’s comment low-brow and distasteful, I don’t think it’s ban-worthy on his home blog. Definitely if it was on the Titans blog, though. Would you ban a regular BON poster over a poor bonfire joke? You might give them a stern warning, but you wouldn’t ban them.
As fo those who rec’d the comment, I have nothing to say on their behalf other than Weak Sauce.
But Bonfire wasn't murder and it was 10 years ago...
That is about as sick of a comment as I can imagine and I don’t think even the average Aggie goes that route. Add to it the 7 recs and the other comment about slitting Titans’ fans throats and the Texans’ fanbase really looks bad. I can understand the no-ban policy, but if you want to adhere to it be prepared to be judged and compared to your lowest common denominator.
Here at BON there seems to be rarely any horrible Texas fans, it is mostly the Aggies and Sooners that come and pollute the place every so often. I am fine with them being allowed to let their ignorance show and am glad that most of the really ugly comments come from them and not from Texas fans. If someone made those sorts of comments here they wouldn’t get rec’ed and would likely get a thread pasting from other Texas fans. A relatively open posting policy works well when your own fans do a good job of policing themselves. The Texan board seems to lack that sort of regulator.
Yeah but, from what I've seen in Houston
Vince is still a hometown hero to a lot of people.
If he went back someday, a lot of this would be water under the bridge.
another similarity...
…the Titans have owned the overall series, so much that the game means more to the Texans than it does the Titans’ players. I can’t seem to find the link, but when I read some of the quotes from TN’s players, it was like looking in a mirror.
The game means more to the Texans fans than the players
Mostly because of Bud Adams. We Texans fans hate Bud with an unrivaled passion and don’t have affectionate feelings for most Titans players either. Beating the Titans is beating Bud Adams. That’s why it’s important to the fans.
To the players, its another division game. Things are always fiesty when these two match up, and you can tell players on both teams care greatly and evenly. There’s no way you can watch that game that was just played and think the Titans players just shrug their shoulders at the Texans. Their on-field behavior speaks louder than their off-field words.
That comment is utterly shocking.
Humanity fails sometimes.

VY Played his heart out.
How many Horns were in that game? Did Okam make an appearance? Vince ruled the tempo and diabolically removed the heart of Kubiaks defense. Cushing played hard, but once again watched number 10 take it away play by play.
I am a water tight Texans fan and was actually glad to see VY get the W. It must be the orangeblood runs thicker than water. Hook ’Em
Vince Young
Michael Griffin
Ahmad Hall
Casey Studdard
Frank Okam
Bo Scaife
All this paralled with JC going off on the Steelers, Ricky running rampant, Ced’s rebound year and the VY run is giving the Horns some great press during the height of recruiting season. Come on Big Roy.
Gary Kubiak is an aggie
It all makes sense now.

I am a Texans fan, but I will have only been pulling for them in 15 games this year. I obviously wanted them to crush the Titans the first time around. I have been a Longhorn fan much longer than I’ve been a fan of any other team. I hate seeing Studdard lose, but VY, Griffin, Bo, ect winning makes up for it.
Battle red blog is a good blog
issue is the lack of moderation. A lot of posts are tongue in cheek, though that one is obviously over the line. We are always annihilated by trolls over there, and it gets everyone in a pissy mood I guess. That’s why BON is one of the best blogs out there.

I agree
90% of the stories and fanposts on BRB are good quality; however, on gameday threads it tends to be more like a Texags forum than any cohesive thought.
There is a code of ethics that most moderators follow. PB and the guys do it to a T, but BRB has some kinks they need to work out. Then again, its pro football, which is a different story all together. Hook em!
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.
