Looks good. Real, real good. 8-0 over his last 8 regular season starts, and fourth straight this year.

One of the few advantages
of living in Canada (Vancouver, BC) is that I get to buy the NFL Sunday Ticket on Digital Cable. I have DVRd and watched every VY game this year and I can truly say it has been a pleasure. Seeing him doing his thing on Sundays has made this NFL Season soo much more exciting.
I still get that same feeling in my stomach everytime I watch him the way we all used to when he was on the 40 acres. Simply amazing.

Great game
by Chris Johnson. VY is still VY- he’s not a pocket passer and that’s who survives in the NFL. Good to see him winning again, but I’m not sold that he’s grown up.
I think you're selling Vince short
Chris Johnson, in actuality, was largely contained most of the game save some big runs at the end of the first half and end of the game. VY didn’t statistically light the world on fire, but he engineered two 80+ yard drives in the first half to keep Tennessee in the game, despite the fact they were getting KILLED in the field position battle, and he kept several drives alive with his feet. VY wasn’t perfect but he was darn good tonight, and anyone who thinks he wasn’t a key part of Tennessee’s win is fooling themselves.

He's being oversold
Sorry- but Johnson averaged ~5 ypc in the game. Most college teams would take that- I’m sure you wish Tx could find a back who would do that game after game.
I think Young has such low expectations now- and we give the QB so much of the credit or blame for a W or L- that his OK game has been made into something more. That game was won by Tenn’s D and CJ. Young had a few key plays, but he was an OK QB. That performance, if not carried by his teammates, won’t win many other games.

Bullsh__
Young’s playing well, by any standard.
There’s a difference between a guy who’s just showing up and managing the game while the rest of the team wins it and what we’re seeing here with VY — an integral part of the winning.
You’re off base. By a lot.
You ain't hurt.

No
You’re a homer. He’s managing the game. He throw’s medium to deep passes no more than 5 times a game. Over his last 4 wins, he’s average 150 yds passing. He had 12 completions tonight.
I’ve grown up watching VY- starting with his time at Madison HS. Love the guy- he was a beast through his time at TX. But he’s not where he should be if he’s going to be more of a game manager. And honestly, if the D is strong (as it was last year) and CJ is running for 2100 yds a season, he doesn’t need to do anything more than manage the game.

If you think I'm making this up
Here’s a quote from a Houston fan:
…and let me just say this – I’m not going to say anything like "CJ did the work and Vince just filled in the blanks."
Vince Young beat the Texans tonight, PERIOD. CJ got some great numbers, but he didn’t hit the home run. In a way, the Texans did what they wanted – they limited CJ just enough that he didn’t MURDER us, and forced Vince to make plays, which he did – with ease.
I hate the Titans. HATE them. But you guys had a great game, and Bulluck’s comments came to fruition. So, I’m here to take the medicine.
Big players make big plays when the game is on the line. We apparently don’t have those players. NOBODY wants any part of the Titans right now.
Obviously, he’s a bit low from the loss, but I have a hard time imagining somebody saying that VY’s key third down conversions and good throws were “carried by his teammates.” You know that huge drop by Nate Washington? Vince bounced right back with a big third down throw to Scaife and the drive went for a touchdown. Is that being “carried” by his teammates?
The defense wasn’t even that strong this game. They were decent (certainly better than early in the season), but they once again got gashed by Andre Johnson. Also, you’re assuming all of Johnson’s runs have nothing to do with VY, when Vince’s very presence directly or indirectly aids in his running. Chris Johnson has said so himself.
Furthermore, VY’s passer rating in his four starts is 90+. That’s bad how?
Look, I know you’re a Texan fan and you really don’t want to see VY succeed because it looks bad on your franchise, but be objective. Mario is a fine player so there’s no need to think that VY has to be bad to make your pick justified. Nobody is saying Vince and the Titans are going to find themselves in the playoffs (I’d be honestly shocked if they made it), but to say that he hasn’t been a big part of their turnaround is just plain ignorant.

Ignorant- or factual
CJ was the man in that game. He’s the one who made the large runs that shifted the field position.
Did VY convert a few thrid downs- yes. But that’s my point- by converting a few third downs to extend a couple of drives suddenly makes him the man. Sorry- not buying it. But passer rating is always the logical way to measure a QB- he had a respectable 84.8 tonight. 116 yds. 55% completion rate.
Just stop and compare him to the following QBs- Roethlisberger, Rivers, Brady, Manning, Ryan. Those are the NFL standard.
The game was decided on the feet of the kickers. If Brown hits the two he missed, does your judgment of Young suddenly change?
And that defense that wasn’t that strong held Houston to 3 second half points.
by Bullard's Boy on Nov 24, 2009 2:57 AM CST up reply actions
No, it doesn't change
And after all, Bironas missed one too.
First of all, your “standard” is all over the place. You have Manning and Brady with Rivers and Matt Ryan. Eh? Where is Brees? You have one strange standard.
Secondly, nobody is comparing VY to the likes of Manning or Brady. A lot of QBs look “average” compared to those guys, including Matt Schaub. In fact, making that comparison is faulty to begin with, because everyone will say that VY is not a conventional QB who will sling the ball for 300 yards a game (the Titans receivers wouldn’t allow it anyway). We’re merely judging VY on these simple terms: Is he making plays to help his team win? That would be a big yes. None of the QBs you mentioned would have been able to make the plays with their legs that VY did.
Thirdly, it’s not an “either-or” thing. Chris Johnson is arguably the best back in the NFL. Giving credit to Vince doesn’t mean people are trying to steal credit from Johnson. It’s just an acknowledgment that Vince has brought a new dimension to the offense and that these two players help each other. On Chris Johnson’s first long run of the game, it was an option. You think Kerry Collins would be running that? It is entirely possible, you know, for VY, Chris Johnson, and the defense to all play fairly well.
Fourth, the field goal kickers didn’t magically get into field goal range themselves. Bironas deserves a ton of credit for his 53 yarder, because that’s a tough one, but until he’s capable of hitting one from 116 yards, I’d be hesitant to say that the game is decided “on the feet of kickers.” Unless, of course, it’s the SEC.
And by the way, that defense that held Houston to 3 points also enjoyed a decent TOP advantage in the second half. That helps too.
Vince played well. He made a few mistakes but overall, he made some big plays to help Tennessee win. That would be true whether or not Bironas or Brown made their kicks.

The NFL "standard" includes two first ballot hall of famers in the prime of their careers?
And three super bowl winners? What sort of walleyed fantasy is this?

I am pretty sure that P. Manning said....
… the way you are judged as a QB is by wins. Not a sermon, just a thought.
Dude
You’re on a Longhorn blog where VY is worshiped. Give it up. He beat you guys today. Admit that and lets just move on….

Is he being oversold
by fans on a Texas blog who worship the guy for guiding the Horns out of a 35 year wilderness? Yes.
Does it change the fact that he’s done a very nice job of guiding the Titans to 4 wins in their last 4 game. No.
I don’t think anybody on here is claiming he’s one of the top 10 QBs in the league. He’s not in the top 20 either. But he’s doing a nice job running the offense, moving the ball down the field, using his feet, and finding the open guy. He’s an important cog in the offense if not THE cog. And right now, that’s exactly what VY and the Titans BOTH need.
you're the worst kind of fan
you ignore all critical analysis of data and simply look at things from a myopic point of view that slides neatly into your agenda
that being if x amount of people believe it’s true then the opposite is probably the reality
you’re the type of person to tell us that the monkees were better than the beatles
that the current longhorns would run amok over the 2005 ones
you ignore all reasonability and simply go with a story line and stick to it
a few things that stick out right now and we should start with the 4-0 since vince young took over the qb position
while you want to label him a game manager, he hasn’t been asked to manage games
the offense has taken on new wrinkles and he’s been asked to do enough to sustain drives and make plays that weren’t available to kerry collins
the sprint option, scramble on third down, counter plays are more effective because of him
every single play that the titans ran previous to him have become more effective
and that’s not because he’s a manager who they tell don’t mess up, it’s because he’s the leader of a conservative offense that adds an extra wrinkle
here’s what titans ball looked like before vy
first down run
second down, run again
if you’re seven or more yards away from a first down, pass, possibly check down
fourth down punt
it was ineffective and predictable
the titans now have the option to run on any play, or pass on any play
teams have a linebacker shadow vince to limit his scrambling
option play, come on, they’re doing that with kerry collins?
third down and 10 with vy you can’t just load the box and hope to pressure him, he’ll get out
all of the titans weapons are more effective with him as the qb, that’s not managing the weapons
that’s making the most out of what you have
what we saw last night was a decent to good qb, have a solid game, and lead his team to a win
that doesn’t happen with a manager
that doesn’t happen with most qbs in the league based on the offense

and the defense got gashed for big yards yesterday
most in the form of long passes
you think they could’ve sustained the limited energy they had with repeated 3 and outs?
hello? did you see the new england game
This and the season Ricky is having
makes it an amazing year for former Longhorns who have their jerseys retired…. just saying….
