We've got Auburn-Alabama just starting on CBS and Cincy rolling up Illinois on ABC. Later tonight we've got WVU-Pitt and Boise State-Nevada.

I'm sure it won't happen . . .

but I’d love to see ’Bama go down here and then take down the Mighty Meyers next week . . . I could go for a Texas-TCU title match.

In any case, it’d drive the human voters and the computer nerds nuts.

Even if Bama wins

I’d like to see the excuses made for their D if they get lit up

Auburn is getting the breaks!

Come on punch it in here!

Just to make sure, if Bama loses today and beats Florida in the SEC championship, are we looking at a possible Texas/TCU national championship?

by goingforthecorner on Nov 27, 2009 2:01 PM CST reply actions

Probably not

Their computer rankings are going to take a nasty hit when they play 1-10 New Mexico. Not that their computer rankings are that great to begin with.

by GoHorns on Nov 27, 2009 2:02 PM CST up reply actions

Cincy gonna jump TCU

They get Pitt next week, they’ll have a much higher SOS than TCU

by 40AS on Nov 27, 2009 2:03 PM CST up reply actions

Thinking about it

I wonder how things would happen if TCU were 2 and Cincy were 5 behind Bama and Florida in the human polls. Would that make up for their computer scores? Of course, this is in the scenario of Texas, Cincy, and TCU winning out, Bama losing today, but beating Floriday.

by GoHorns on Nov 27, 2009 2:05 PM CST up reply actions

Alright

so if Cinci loses to Pitt, then we have UT/TCU given the above scenario.

by goingforthecorner on Nov 27, 2009 2:08 PM CST up reply actions

Definitely Would Happen

If Bama loses to Auburn then beats Florida – I guarantee they would jump both Cinci and TCU to make the title game.

14-0 Auburn!!!

If Alabama fall, guess who is the new Heisman front runner?

by the1austin on Nov 27, 2009 2:02 PM CST reply actions

Are the Bama and Florida games this weekend irrelevant?

Most “experts” seem to believe that a one-loss Bama or one-loss Florida, if they wind up winning next week, is still in the championship game. So does today’s Bama-Auburn game really matter?

Perhaps if Bama and Florida both lost this weekend…

by Hopkins Horn on Nov 27, 2009 2:02 PM CST via mobile reply actions

Gus Malzahn is an effn genius..

Alabama's defense must suck!

Really, after 11 games they have been insanely awesome … but they are struggling with an in state rival on a holiday weekend on the road so those 11 games must mean NOTHING and their defense is being exposed!

It’s a championship game against arguably the best team on UT’s schedule. They have holes (all on offense), but that defense has been good enough to give teams problems.

Let's remember

those playmakers lost by 55 to Oklahoma (Johnson was something like 12-31 in the game) and 48 to Kansas State.

Nebraska’s playmakers are on defense and today is a great example. Up 14 at the half despite having less than 100 yards of total offense.

Gators or Tide?

Who would you rather play given last night’s defensive effort? I’d actually say I’m rooting for the Tide because Tebow scares me based on what JJ did last night.

Of course if Bama drops this one and beats the Gators, then do we get TCU? Or Cincy?

All assuming we take care of business against the huskers next week, of course.

Johnson > Tebow

Tebow is a Fullback playing QB.

Don't be so sure

Tebow, as much as I hate him, is a pure winner.

And he and JJ actually have the same 40 time according to multiple websites.

No, it's nfldraftscout.com, rivals, etc.

they have both at 4.59
tebow’s 55 yard run last week was impressive.
and to be clear, i’m not a gator fan. just realistic. i’d rather play the tide.

Colt's 65 yarder was more impressive.

Agreed.

weird to say since they currently have the lead, but ’Bama seems to have them figured out.

Why would you call play action on 3rd and 18?

Everyone knows your going to throw, it just gives the defense more time to get to you.

Nebraska is not far from being 12-0

The had a fluke game against ISU
Lost to Va Tech on the last play
And got smashed by Tech…but still they are good team.

One more lackluster performance by Ingram vs Florida

and it’s back to Colt vs Tebow for the Heisman. A part of me hopes Tebow wins it ala 2005.

Man, I'm still really upset about the way Auburn finished that game

Malzahn turned into a giant wimp the last few drives for Auburn, and that two minute drill, if you can even call of that, was an abomination. Do coaches not learn basic math?

by TheElusiveShadow on Nov 27, 2009 5:24 PM CST reply actions

Forgive me, I'm confused

Until the very end of the Auburn/Alabama game, I didn’t hear anything about TCU or Cincinnati watching this game with glee (we heard that ALL GAME LONG yesterday). I didn’t hear the CBS announcers hope that the Auburn defense takes out the Alabama QB (almost a quote from the ESPN guys – hoping that Colt would get taken out of the game). I didn’t hear that Auburn’s quarterback was the greatest in the history of football (cf. ESPN’s constant yammering that Johnson was the next coming of Tebow, who is, in fact, Christ).

After Texas wins, I heard two basic things: (1) Texas should drop in the polls, because they should have really blown A&M out, and (2) if it weren’t for McCoy, Texas would have lost. I guess the people suggesting that Texas should drop just pushed us to #2 since the Auburn/Alabama game was much closer than the Texas game (and Texas was only behind for a couple of minutes in the first quarter) — especially since Alabama had to come from behind. I also guess that quarterbacks aren’t an integral part of anyone’s team, so having the most accurate QB in the history of the game (with the most wins) is pure happenstance.

Is this simple anti-Texas BS, or can any of this be justified?

Hook ’em, dammit.

by maddoc on Nov 27, 2009 6:10 PM CST reply actions

CBS and ESPN is really banking on Texas falling giving TCU or Cincy a shot at the title game. We’re in the way right now and it’s eating at them. A heavily favored Texas struggles against an in-state rival on their home turf for a 10 point victory. On the flip side Alabama was also heavily favored, but they showed grit and determination coming back from 14 down to beat their in-state rival by 6 when their Heisman candidate RB is held to 32 yards. I guess in the SEC those 32 yards = 155 yards and 3 TDs in the Big 12 so it’s all good, bleh.

Let the haters hate, as long as the Horns handle their business and keep winning they can’t do anything about it.

by JaySim on Nov 27, 2009 6:51 PM CST up reply actions

On the bright side, the ESPN team for the Backyard Brawl said the Heisman is Colt's

The flashed the numbers for Ingram and McCoy up on the screen, and even without looking at Colt’s rushing numbers (which were almost six times those of Ingram’s), they reached the obvious conclusion that Colt wins out over Ingram at this point. Of course there’s another week to go, but I think Colt can definitely wrap it up with at least a solid performance and victory next Saturday. Ingram would have to carry the Tide on his back with a huge game-winning performance to wrest control back.

The one troubling factor is that the SEC love right now is currently split between Tebow and Ingram. If Ingram fades, Tebow gets more of it, so he could actually become the weakest Heisman winner in more than a decade.

by burntorangehorn on Nov 27, 2009 9:04 PM CST reply actions

Case (for his brother) Closed!

2 teams fighting their in-state rival. Both teams on the road in a hostile environment. Both teams receiving a fight tougher than they ever imagined. Stakes incredibly high – a loss costing them a shot at the MNC. One Heisman contender passes, runs, punts, and leads his team to victory with a passion. The other Heisman contender sits on the bench with his 2 ypc while his backup tries to pull out the game. Now who should win the Heisman? Obviously Colt is the Heisman winner.

Wow

Can’t believe WVU pulled off the win. I had been hoping for a 10-1 Pitt vs. 11-0 Cincinnati next week, but no such luck. Congrats to Bill Stewart, who doesn’t have his team playing quite like Rodriguez did, but is really a much better guy to have working with those kids. It’s always nice to see him do well.

Greetings, Horns fans!

Enjoyed the neutral take on the Bama-au game. I know this thread is 2 days dead, but I thought I would throw a couple of things out there:

1) Ingram was not ‘pulled in the clutch’ as suggested by some. He was injured late in the 4th.

2) Richardson has seen significant playing time pretty much all season long no matter the situation. You are correct, though-there is not that much of a drop-off, if any, when Richardson is spelling Ingram.

3) Concerning the ‘Alabama is just a little better than Nebraska’ comment. I had the same thought about y’all while watching the TX-A&M game (very Arkansas-like: can score points, but no running game or defense). I guess it all depends on which games you watch.

Hopefully, we’ll find out for sure in Pasadena. Good luck with the ’huskers! Roll Tide!
