Freshman DB Marcus Davis arrested.
I thought I would post the bad news.
Freshman defensive back Marcus Davis was arrested in Pearland Saturday and charged with possession of a controlled substance.
The charge was a Class A misdemeanor, according to the Pearland Police Department web site.
John Bianco, a spokesman for the Texas football team, said late Saturday: “We are aware of the situation and are dealing with it at this time.”

I Think We Needed Him Too
If Beasley can’t go – I really would rather have him in the dime than the 3 safeties together.
Let's see what the substance is
But I have to admit that if it’s an illegal drug, even marijuana (despite that I think it should be legalized), this should be bye-bye Davis.

You must be kidding
The guy’s got pot on him and he should be booted from the team? If we’re not kicking guys with DUI’s, then I don’t think having pot should result in excommunication.
3 game suspension, or whatever. It’s a misdemenor. It’s not like it was armed robbery.
A drug violation would be a lot worse for the program than a DUI
Again, I think pot should be legal, but as long as it’s illegal, I would want the kid kicked out of the program. I would admit that it would certainly be a lesser concern than if it were a hard drug, so I could imagine perhaps a more moderate punishment. I think anything like crack, cocaine, meth, etc. should warrant immediate removal.

Underage drinking
and driving while intoxicated are also illegal, not to mention that they endanger the life of the player and others. I fail to see how a misdemenor possession charge is worse than a DUI, especially of an underage player.

Regardless of relative illegality
Drug violations are always more potent than drinking violations. Yeah, underage drinking and drunk driving are illegal, but “everyone” realizes it’s an accepted drug, while other illegal drugs, including pot, carry a heavy load of taboo and imply a rotten program.
Fair? No. But it’s reality. Make him and every other kid who tarnishes the “Leave No Doubt” program, into an example.
Underage drinking is one thing, DUI is a whole other beast.

I hope you didn’t mean to lump underage drinking and DUI into the same “socially accepted” category of offenses.

You're totally right
I wasn’t implying that drunk driving is considered “acceptable”. But let me just speak for myself instead of the masses when I say that anything drug-related immediately has a more negative connotation than most drinking-related incidents. Again, it’s a wide brush and I realize there are other violations that may be alcohol induced (rape, battery, assault…), but I’m speaking generally.
Anyway, this can get semantical pretty quickly. The guy messed up. It doesn’t look good for the University. He should pay somehow. For breaking the law…and for bringing UT down.
If Josh Heytvelt can get caught with pot and mushrooms
and still finish his career at a Catholic university, i dont see any reason why we should kick off a freshman who makes one mistake. He’s 18 years old, i dont think a misdemeanor should cost him his scholarship.
controlled substance
If it were pot it would be called possesion of marijuana and be only a class c or b misdemeanor. When the charge is a controlled substance it is always a “Hard Drug”. The only way a pot charge can be a class a misdemeanor is with intent to distrubute included in the charge. And even then it is still labeled as possesion of marijuana. I know from experience. You can bet It was either crack, coc, heroine, meth or anything else classified as a “hard Drug” but it wasn’t pot.
You can't spell COCKSUCKER without OU.
Good point
I skimmed over the class A part of that. It is worse than i expected. Unfortunately then he’s likely to get the boot, hopefully he can learn from his mistakes.
I'm also wondering if it could be an Rx
I honestly wouldn’t mind if it were, as long as it’s not some kind of uppers or whatever. I’ve seen people charged with having their spouses’ prescription ibuprofen in their possession, and it’s been the “controlled substance” charge. Not sure if that’s very likely here, though.
Anyway, good point about the term of the charge. I think marijuana’s a relatively harmless vice, very similar to alcohol, but one has to be willing to accept the consequences of using either one of those illegally.

Incident Report Cs P3 < 28g Ma
Cs= Controlled Substance
P3 is Penal group 3
M=Misdemeanor
Looks like class a which is the worst.
Incident report said he has 1.2 gram of Alprazolam which is Xanax. Also DWI.
Said on the incident report and news here in Houston that he was arrested for DWI and possession. Per the television news, he was allegedly driving on a blown out tire which caused a motorist to call the cops.
I cannot imagine that he will be back this season. He will be lucky to be back for spring, if at all. Mack’s punishment will probably take into account if he has been a good student athlete so far. Dang it all. Hate this book ’em Horns stuff.
Horns up that he gets a chance to meet with a good counselor and get himself back on track. He is only 18 but so much is expected from these young men that they have to man up quickly and don’t get to fly under the radar. I hope he works it out.
Kick him and DJ off the team
Or at least remove any possibility of playing this year, and possibly re-evaluate during the offseason. This is Texas. You want to act like dumbasses? Go play in Norman.
If you're so sure of what it ain't, how about telling us what it am!
A bit harsh
I’m sure everyone here was an absolute angel from 18-22.
