Poll: Who would you want - Alabama or Florida?
If Texas manages to beat Nebraska this week and advance to the BCS Championship Game, which team would you rather play, Alabama or Florida?
(No disrespect meant to Nebraska, as I expect the Huskers to give us a great game in Dallas Arlington this week. But there's no point in waiting until after the conclusion of the Big XII Championship Game to ask the question, as the SEC champion will be known by halftime of our game.)

. . . and my vote is Alabama
I would rather play Alabama.
This has nothing to do with on-the-field matchup concerns, as there are pros and cons to playing both teams. I think you could almost flip a coin to determine which team would be preferable for us to play.
Instead, I think the build-up to playing Alabama would be much more enjoyable, for several reasons:
(1) Although Florida has had its success over the past decade or two, Alabama is still the team which comes more to mind when one thinks about college football royalty. It’s a cooler match-up from a historical perspective.
(2) There won’t be any talk a la 2005 about whether Florida is the best team of all time. But if Florida advances, there will be a month-long Tebow-fest which I want absolutely nothing to do with. Build-up to a Texas-Alabama game might actually focus on, you know, the game itself.
(3) As I hope to attend the game, I would much rather be hanging out and tailgating with Crimson Tide fans than the jort-wearers from Gainesville.
Nearly word for word what I was thinking
Plus, I’d love to see our all-white road uniforms on the same field with their crimson home uniforms…in the Rose Bowl.
I can’t imagine a football game looking any better than that. Neither team has changed its uniform at all over the years.

Uniforms
Absolutely correct. Two of the best uniforms in college football—yesterday, today, tomorrow.

Exactly
If we survive Nebraska (See? Subjective tense!!!) and play Alabama in the BCS Championship Game, it would be an absolutely aesthetic masterpiece. Paul Lukas must be salivating at the possibility. Even beautiful with the jerseys reversed from what we’d expect to see in Pasadena.
Florida’s jerseys, on the other hand, are merely tacky on a good day. Plus the Gators are a team that tend to wear whatever atrocity Nike throws their way.

also..
…haven’t the Longhorns beat Alabama in EVERY meeting?

Bama
If we get by Nebraska, I WANT IT. Tide’s offense is less scary. And they don’t have the big game experience the Gators do.
For all we criticize Tebow and his adorinig, drooling media lapdogs, the guy’s a winner. I hope he directs Florida to a nice Sugar Bowl win over TCU or Iowa.
Tough one
I agree completely with Hopkins Horn, but somehow I would also like to bitch slap the 2nd coming. He makes me puke.
Agreed
I’d like to take on Nebraska first.

But the point of polling now is . . .
. . . there would be no time to take a poll after the game.
It’s like making the Final Four and wondering who you’d rather play in the championship game if you happened to make it that far. No harm asking the question, and too late asking the question after the semis.

To elaborate . . .
The Texas fanbase has been in a “BCS Championship Game or bust” mindset since last December.
It’s been clear, since late September at the latest, that, barring an upset, we would be facing the winner of an Alabama-Florida SEC Championship Game if we were to make it that far.
I would imagine that most Horns fans over the past two months have given themselves the chance to look ahead to a possible trip to Pasadena and have formed a preference as to whom they would rather play.
Without ignoring the reality that we have one more difficult game in the way, I hardly think it is too early to poll Horn fans, at the last possible time to do so, to see what preference has formed over these past two months.

I'm looking for a Nebraska shut down.....first and formost......
That being said, Florida looked salty Saturday and Bama looked beatable.
I would rather see Tebow dismantle TCU while we shutdown Bama for the MNC
I do not ever want to see our D like it was Thursday Night ……BOOM !!!!
Can't get enough of that cowbell !!!

Florida
I want the Tebow suck-fest. Hell I hope they even give him the heisman. I’d love to hear the “Greatest Team Ever” talk start up again. I want it to be 2005 all over again because it just makes a win that much better.
3/19/2009 - Dogus Balbay Made a Three-Pointer. Never Forget.
in my opinion
If the voters give the Heisman to Tebow who already has won one would degrade the trophy and it’s meaning. To pass up on a Heisman worhy candidate for a player who already has one would be a joke. They say it is the hardest award to get in college football. Only one player in history has won it twice before (which might have only happened because there was no one else to give it to that was worthy). It would benefit the Heisman trophy more to not give it to the same player twice.
Not sure which team is better
but beating Florida would make me feel better.

Agree with that
A month ago, I wouldn’t have agreed. Today, I believe Florida’s going to win that game. Alabama is banged up. Florida seems to be getting a second wind.

Alabama
As a die-hard Texas fan living in Alabama I would absolutely love for our Longhorns to defeat the Crimson Tide. Believe me when I say that they are the most annoying fan base (with the exception of the Sooners) in the country. They honestly believe that if they played us they would completely dominate us. Its getting to be a little ridiculous and I would absolutely love to see us put up 40+ points on their “SEC defense.”

You and I, sir
Are in the same boat. If this happens (and I have prayed almost nightly for a month that it does), I’m planning on getting t-shirts made. I’m not sure of all the design details yet, but I do know that I want “8-0-1” displayed prominently on the front. That, of course, would the be all-time Texas record vs. Alabama.

Rather play Alabama
because I don’t want to see how our D handles another duel threat qb after failing to do so againt Jerrod Johnson.
Florida, for two very important reasons
1) I believe that the team that is disrespected more before a National Championship game has a much better chance of winning the game. I’m not big on banking on intangibles, but college football is very much a game of emotions. Florida may be better than Alabama, but I think that the relentless verbal intercourse between the media and the Gators will cause Texas to play much, much better than if we played Alabama and would probably be the favored team.
2) Tim Tebow. I don’t care if it is “fair” to hate the guy or not; I hate him with every cell in my body. I got so much pleasure from watching a pissed off Matt Leinart walk off the field four years ago, but that would be nothing compared to how much I want to ruin Tebow’s college football finale. If we beat Florida, I would enjoy beating Tebow more than I would enjoy Texas winning, and I am completely serious about that.
If you're so sure of what it ain't, how about telling us what it am!
Florida
Beating all world USC in 2005 was sweet.
Beating all world Tebows will be sweet as well as seeing another “dynasty” begin their crumble
Greg Davis wears Sex Panther... and nothing else.
didn't vote b/c im superstitious
but, sure would be fun to play giant killer one more time, and to be able to say we beat “the greatest team ever assembled” in 05 and “the greatest human being to ever live” in 09
not very often in the Mack Brown era that we get to play underdog and it’s fun
by trueorangeblood on Nov 29, 2009 9:08 PM CST reply actions
When you mentioned underdog you got me thinking about the possibility of Alabama.
I know the BCS would have Alabama #1 and Texas #2, but I’m not so sure that Vegas would have the Tide as the favorite. Most of the human polls have us ahead of Alabama and would believe Vegas would as well.
Probably depends on how Bama plays against Florida
If Bama plays well and wins by double digits they would probably be favored because they would have just beat Tebow and his Gators. If its a close game then Texas would probably be favored with a good showing vs Nebraska, atleast thats what i think.

Florida, hands down.
Just so ESPN and their ilk can talk about how great he is, how great Florida is, how great a coach Urban Meyers is right up to the game. Remember 2005? Yup, greatest football team in all of existence, that USC team. You didn’t think Vince and the boys heard it throughout the months leading up to that game? Has to be Florida. Alabama just doesn’t get ESPN’s panties wet like Tim Tebow.
In-VINCE-able.
These are all reasons . . .
. . . why I would prefer to beat Florida, if you could guarantee a victory. But they’re all the reasons I would rather play Alabama — it would be a much less annoying build-up to the game.

I, for one, ...
…live in Alabama, and the Alabama fans can really get on your nerves. I got myself an Auburn girl and I’m moving to Dallas next week. I have no opinion on Alabama vs. Florida (focused on Nebraska at the moment), but I’ll take any opportunity to voice my dislike for the Bama faithful.
