If Davis keeps pulling Robert Joseph crap and Earl leaves next year,

does that open the possibility of going after Ahmad Dixon?
It is quite scary to even think about Brewster and Gideon as our starting safeties. Christian Scott will be back, but him not playing for a year might hurt his chances of starting….

I am asking bc one of the reasons why AD decommitted was due to playing time.

The way Baylor has been playing lately, I wouldn’t think a 4 or 5 star recruit would go there.

Earl's stock is high

He’s riding high right now, with a really big season to his credit. I think he’d do better to wait, but it’s not like his biggest knock (lack of height) is likely to change much over the next year or two.

Survival of the fittest.

If he really is a good kid, he will have the op to redeem himself next year. We all make mistakes its the one’s of us who actually learn from them that count and contribute. Good luck to him and hopefully he realizes what he’s blown.

Ahmad Dixon is a safety

Davis is a corner. I worry about CB the year after next: 3 of this year’s 4 CBs are juniors or seniors and Aaron Williams may have the skill to early-out after the 2010 season.

The 2009 and 2010 defensive backs

They make for a pretty decent group and, IMO, reason for optimism. Byndom, A. White, Bryant Jackson, and Adrian Phillips are all going to DBs of one sort or another, and Cobbs might be as well. Vaccaro’s more of a safety, obviously, but more safeties would mean less chance of guys who could play corner or safety being slotted at safety, if that makes any sense. Eryon Barnett is going to be around, it’s not a given that AW or Earl will leave, and of course Brewster and Gideon will return. Marcus Davis could be there still.

Honestly, I’m not terribly concerned about how much talent there will be in 2011. The guys mentioned above are all very talented football players. The somewhat larger concern might be that the younger guys might not get too many snaps with such strong depth (Thomas, Gideon, Williams, the Browns, etc.) ahead of them for 2010.

2011 class

Hard to say at this point how much true freshmen in the class could come in and play, but the Longhorns look like they are in good shape with Leroy Scott and Kolby Griffin, the consensus two best corners in the class. Scott in particular is so physically gifted that he might be able to step on campus and play right away if need be but chances are the guys in front of him will be ready to go.

I think the key will be to get some of the young guys playing time next season, which may depend on how well the offense can play in the games Texas should win easily so the kids can get some reps. The good news is that Muschamp places a premium on playing the back ups, so as long as the first teamers on both sides can do their job, the young guys will have every chance to get ready for 2011.
