Hicks cancels USC visit
A snip from ESPN:
Hicks, the No. 2 prospect in the ESPNU 150, has had to cancel his trip to USC. Hicks' mother was unable to arrange a flight to Southern California, so her son called his trip off. Hicks may reschedule the visit for the weekend of Dec. 5. He has previously made official visits to Ohio State and Texas. He also has an official visit set to Florida for the weekend of Dec. 12. It is not certain if he will make an official visit to Alabama.
James will be heading to the University of Florida this weekend to make his first official visit. He also has official visits scheduled to Notre Dame the weekend of Dec. 5 and Ohio State the weekend of Dec. 12. He has not yet scheduled an official visit to Cincinnati.
So he made it to an Ohio State game and a Texas game, but apparently has no plans to catch an Alabama or Florida game if he makes an official visit. If he keeps his Notre Dame plans, he'll miss USC's last game as well.

Actually it says he has made an official to Texas...
Unfortunately what is quote and what is boh’s own comments aren’t evident. The first and second paragraphs are quotes from the article and only the first paragraph is about Hicks. James is another recruit. The last paragraph is boh’s own musings where he too seems to think the second paragraph is about Hicks.
Hicks has made two official visits, one to OSU and one to Texas. He doesn’t plan on going to ND, since that trip is planned by the other recruit in the second paragraph.
Does anyone know for certain if his plan is to enroll early? If so, that doesn’t leave many weekends for him to make trips. It seems like his trip to Florida is set for December 12. If he isn’t able to get to USC this coming weekend then that leaves only 3 weeks (2 weekends) before the New Year. Most campus will be in the midst of finals the weeks of December 7-14. Then they will shut down for the holidays. Of course the football teams will be practicing, but if he wants to get a sense of the student life and academics he will probably only get that over the next two weeks before everything shifts to finals mode.

Yep, missed the “James” issue. Crapola, my reading disability rears its embarrassing head again.
Regarding early enrollment, I do wonder about that, because he’s a basketball guy too. I’m not sure the kid would want to pass up what could be his senior season, which could be his last chance to ever play competitive basketball.

I wondered about the B-ball thing as well
I remember reading somewhere that Hicks wouldn’t be a signing day guy because he wanted to enroll early, but I also read that he was already transitioning from football to basketball which seems odd if he plans on enrolling early. Then I wondered if I was conflating Hicks with Jeffcoat, who I know loves basketball, but if you are saying he is a basketball guy too then I am not sure that the talk of being an early enrollee is legit.
That said, it has to be obvious to these guys though that coming for Spring practice gives a freshman the best chance of seeing the field and contributing in a meaningful way.
