Muschamp staying at Texas
I posted earlier about speculation of Muschamp leaving Texas for any sort of Job. Then I read that Muschamp was on Notre Dame's short list, as they were thinking defensively. Well now we can rest easy.
During a press conference today Muschamp said he was staying at Texas. He didn't elaborate, and simply said "I'm going to be at Texas." This is good news, no doubt.

ESPN just reported that
Big game Bob is all but signed as the ND coach. Just some contractual snags to overcome. We’ll see.
Remember when OU had a "Big game Bob" ?
The problem in South Bend for Stoops would be that there are no conference titles to hang your hat on. But he’d certainly devour the Big East teams and service acadamies as demanded.
For the sake of speculation, who could OU hire to fill a would-be vacancy that would make UT fans cringe the most?
I would think that if they lose Stoops
they would almost certainly take Patterson

Patterson, eh?
Patterson has turned down a lot of decent upward moves to stay at TCU. I’m not sure OU would be the one to change that.
I would believe Sumlin, Leach, Mike Stoops, or even Mangino before I’d believe Patterson, but I think all of those guys are possibilities.

Muschamp?
What are the chances Muschamp would leave Texas to be the HC at ou (if offered)?
Not very high at all.
To be quite honest, the only team that scares me w.r.t. Muschamp is Georgia. If they drop Richt and make a full-court press on Muschamp — his alma mater, where all of his extended family lives… I don’t know that we’d win that fight.
ESPN reported that?
I saw that somewhere, but didn’t think it was a credible source. Very interesting.

Yea, but
I’m reading on USA Today just now
Stoops: ‘I fully intend’ on being at Oklahoma next year, beyond"
The earlier report was by Sportcenter but I think it was some “insider”.
He's been a figurehead for years
I think “diminished role” means a daily pep talk before the team breaks out into units.

Oops, now he's retiring
According to that perpetual leaker, Mr. Sources.

this issue came up last year
and Muschamp made his intensions clear and he’s not going to change his mind. To have rumors pop up of the contrary just show that athletic directors and reporters can’t listen.

It's not an issue of changing his mind.
I believe 100% that Muschamp fully intends to stay put. But he’s not going to wait forever. If Mack intends to stay for several more years, there will come a day when Muschamp receives an offer he can’t refuse from another program. Thinking otherwise is incredibly naive.
Quite the contrary
As each year passes that Mack is still around, Muschamp is that much closer to the job. If he is going to leave it would be best to leave now.
No it wouldn't
You have no idea how long Mack intends to stay. He could leave next year, or it could be another 10 years. If Muschamp thought it was going to be 10 years, he’d never have agreed to the deal in the first place. That’s why he isn’t leaving now. If it turns out to be 10 years, Muschamp will be long gone.
Hasn't Mack stated that he wants to leave in the next few years
If he can get a NC? Or if not, I remember getting the impression that he would leave regardless in no less than five or six years. I don’t think you hire a coach-in-waiting if the current HC has absolutely no plan to leave in the next decade.
If you're so sure of what it ain't, how about telling us what it am!
That's going to be a sad, sad day
I really think Muschamp could do a great job, but it’s still hard to imagine things could remain as good as they have been under Brown.

Yah I don't think he's leaving
He does make it clear he wants to stay, I guess, but then the last paragraph is open to interpretation.
“I’m not favoring anything over anything else,” Stoops said. “What I’m saying is I couldn’t be more happy and pleased with what we’re doing here. And again, I’m not confirming or denying anything about Notre Dame or any other job. My point is this is what I love doing right now.”
Who knows.

ESPN didn't say Bob Stoops to Notre Dame was a done deal
They said Stoops was at or near the top of the list and that one NFL scout believes Stoops has essentially already been hired and just has to work out contract issues with OU. Joe Schad reported that Stoops said today that he will be at OU next year but that he wouldn’t confirm or deny that he has spoken to reps from other programs.
