Can we stop talking about the Aggies now?
With their loss to Colorado, I hope that everyone can take a deep breath of reality and realize TAMU is just an average team. Now while we shouldn't take any team lightly, I also don't think we should go all "Lou Holtz" and make a team more than they are. We have three games left before the Big 12 Championship and we need to use them to get ready to play Florida or Alabama. The defense is clicking on all cylinders and Colt finally discovered how throwing more than 20 yards down the field can pay off. Keep getting Cody and Fozzy better & find the last remaining key to our BCS puzzle which is the running the ball effectively. Get that in place, and nobody will be able to stop our well-rounded attack.
Hook 'em!
PS I got my Big 12 Championship tickets...have you?

The problem is, the UT-ATM game isn't just ANY game
And records don’t matter. That will be their MNC. It’s not smart to just overlook them and think that by showing up we’ll just win that game. Bring out the A-game, bash their heads in in the first half, and take it from there.
In-VINCE-able.

Yes, it is this part that the voters will not understand or recognize...
if it is close, TX will for certain be penalized to a degree…but it is the final game prior to the CCG (i hate all of these by the way) and finishing unbeaten will be on the forefront of the minds of the voters as well.

Cart - Horse .... hello
Listen, we have to play a team that is slightly better than the one we played this week away at their place after they are coming off of a Mizzou win. I dont care what you say (my gf just bought me big 12 champ tix :) ), we need to beat the piss outta baylor before anything.
Screw A&M, im still hoping we will blow out baylor and KU

At their place?
Floyd Casey Stadium is a de-facto home game for UT. Robert Griffin or not.
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.

We could stop talking about it
I mean its not like an over matched A&M team has ever derailed our Big 12 Title hopes before, right?

Very true
This is the ten year anniversary of bondfire collapse. I would imagine they will be motivated. They are an up and down team that has looked good at times. I think they will start the game up at the very least. And I have my Big 12 championship tickets and will be going win or lose against aggie.

THE bondfire, because that is against tradition!

I had my bondfire around this time last year.
I used my stocks to get it started…

So that's why the Aggies are in such financial trouble !
I just assumed they burned logs at those things…but bonds ! It all makes sense now !

This bonfire anniversary stuff is getting too much play
Most of their players were in elementary school when that happened. I find it hard to believe their team is going to draw some extra special motivation from it. Yes, for their fans, the commemoration is a big deal, but let’s not overstate the impact it’s going to have on the game, which is none.

It will be somewhat reminiscent of the bonfire
as i watch all the videos of crying Aggies on Sportscenter.

The aggroids have no defense.....
and their offense is streaky at best, however when its on its pretty good. This game can be tough….we need to take care of business like Okie lite and missouri games.
Emotions rule this game.
I'd rather you just say thank you and went on your way.

I don't think anybody ever said the Aggies were more than an average team
Yeah, good win over Tech. But that merely balanced out the gutting in Manhattan. Aggies over Iowa State? Not nearly as surprising as Baylor over Mizzou.
Point is, the Ags have played one good game against a legit team — Tech. Iowa State’s a nice team, but not very talented (thank you, Gene Chizik). . . .other Aggies wins were UAB, Utah State and New Mexico, non-BCS teams (NM is 0-9 and Utah St. is 2-7) . By giving away thegame in Boulder, Aggies probably have to beat the Bears to get to 6-6. There may be nine teams in the Big 12 bowl eligible (10 is possible) and I count seven guaranteed spots, so Ags need an at-large entry or they stay home. Again.

You can’t spell “Alamo Bowl” without “a” and “m”.

What is the difference between Cheerios and Aggies?
Cheerios belong in a bowl.
Just a friendly reminder that to even become bowl ELIGIBLE the Ags will have to pull off a feat that they were incapable of doing in 2008. They will have to beat one of the following teams:
Oklahoma, Baylor, or Texas
Frankly, I would take even money that TAMU doesn’t win again this season.

The aggs aren't average, they are bad
And the aggie teams that derailed our Big XII title hopes a few years back weren’t as good as Texas, but they sure were a lot better than the team we will play this year, and the teams we were fielding were much worse than this year’s. And you have to remember, the fact that it is a rivalry game works both ways: there is no way that Texas will overlook aTm. I remember last year I could tell that the aggies were playing the best game of the year against us, and they still go their ass kicked. I’m not worried for a second. This isn’t to say I think that we can’t lose, but it would be such an anomaly that worrying about it is a waste of time. Texas this year has such a brutal combination of defense and offense that it is hard for me to imagine a team like aTm having more points than us after 60 minutes of play.
If you're so sure of what it ain't, how about telling us what it am!

aggies aren't bad at all
they’re inconsistent, which can often look bad, but, if we find them playing their best, while we’re not, anything can happen. Not that I’m too worried, I think we’ll get to see a little GG in each of our next three games.
by jmptexas on Nov 8, 2009 3:33 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
I hope you're right.
I would love to see huge comfortable leads at half and then let GG strike fear into the hearts and minds of next years DC’s.

Aggies always give us trouble
They’ve taken several games from us in the last few years that they shouldn’t have. It’s always one of those weird games where record and talent level doesn’t count. We better be up and have a good game plan, because the Ags would love to ruin our season.

2009 Score: Texas 49, TAMU 9
not too much trouble there.
This team is all too aware of the pesky Aggies, and will not be unfocused for this game. We saw it last year. TAMU is the only Big XII South team that McCoy has a losing record against, and I’m sure he and his teammates will be very ready to right that ship.

2008 is an outlier, unfortunately
2007 38-30
2006 7-12
So the trend is not our friend. I’m not that worried with Coach Boom on staff, though. I just hope ol’ Greggo has the offense ready.

Aggies are mentally weak
This is a team that puffs itself up by beating bad teams, and every time the college football-watching world begins to pay them the slightest bit of attention, they crumble and expose themselves for what they really are.
Texas deals with pressure every week. Our team gets everyone’s best shot. There will never be a game where the other team isn’t taking us seriously, and A&M will be no different. But this team has stood up to every test and answered every challenge. That is not going to change just because we’re playing at Kyle Field or because it’s A&M’s super bowl. Our guys know what is on the line. This is not like like 2006 or 2007. It’s not even like 2005 when we had beaten A&M 6 years in a row and nobody even considered they might put up a fight. We have a player or two who have some unfinished business when it comes to A&M, and it will be addressed on Thanksgiving night.

Aggies aren't our rivals
We are their rivals. That is part of the problem. We get up and ready to play OU since they are our biggest rival. I remember when I taught at UT being told that we needed to excuse any absences for OU weekend and not schedule tests following or just prior to the game. For A/M, hell, its a holiday weekend. We struggle to fill our stadium. Aggies on the other hand live for this game.
We better be ready. Not because they are the big bad Texas Rival but because they will be ready.

UT professors are not told to excuse absences on OU weekend
And we do not struggle to fill our stadium when we play A&M.
OU may be a bigger rival than A&M in the minds of most Texas fans, but let’s not get carried away. We are not some SEC school that puts football before academics by forcing profs to cancel classes and not allowing them to schedule exams before or after a big game. And A&M IS a rivalry game. Playing them every year on Thanksgiving (or the day after) is tradition, and people do not hesitate to show up.

hmm. Your experience as a professor at UT must be different from my experience as a professor at UT
by Ohio Horn on Nov 9, 2009 9:56 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I think common sense just says you are full of it
I was a student at UT from 2001 to 2005 and had at least one professor every single year who would schedule an exam the Monday after OU. I also never had one who actually tracked attendance offer to excuse any absence in the days immediately before and after the OU game.
Having said that, most of my professors knew that was an uncool thing to do, so they didn’t. They always have a choice. But you will never make me believe the University of Texas bars professors from scheduling exams or mandating attendance on class days that fall immediately before or after the OU game. As someone who has had to take an exam the Monday after OU, I can say that’s a load of crap.
by bassale47 on Nov 9, 2009 12:04 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I was a student from 2002-2004 (graduating early is highly overrated) and I think its somewhere in between.
Do I think there’s anything official? No. In my experiences as a student, uniform practices from the professors were more rare than albino squirrel sightings.
Do I think some departments have strong unofficial preferences toward leniency that weekend? Yeah, particularly the smaller departments. In departments with less than 50 undergrads, there are strong political reasons not to antagonize the students that have nothing to do with cheapening the academics. If a professor in a non-required course in one of those places gets a rep for always giving an exam right after OU, that class might not make when students self select elsewhere.

I was told that I "should not have exams and that I should allow excuses for attending the game"
It was “suggested strongly” but it was not official policy. But I was long gone when you attended school at UT. This was in the mid 80s. So you may be right that it is a different place now. I was not denigrating our school. I taught there and got three degrees from UT. I was telling you that there was a different attitude toward one particular game more than another. So relax.

Seriously...
Could you be on the attack any more?
Calm down dude. I just graduated from Texas and all my teachers would ask who was going to actually show up if they had class on the Friday before OU weekend. Most teachers made it a review day, or an optional day, or a day to come in with questions.
Sounds like you got bad luck on the teacher side, but no need to call someone out. We’re all Horns…right?
