The Almost Perfect Day of College Football
Almost because LSU got jobbed out of a win vs. Bama. Seriously though, I cannot remember any better day than this in recent memory for football. Horns win, Ags lose, etc. Let me go over just a few of the good games that played out yesterday:
Purdue over Mich 38 to 36 - LMAO at Rich Rod, dude deserves it.
Texas over UCF 35 to 7 - Record setting day for the Horns
Northwestern over Iowa 17 to 10 - Was bound to happen to the Hawkeyes. Glad they got exposed. Now everyone can calm themselves and all the media attention can once again focus on the impending Bama- UF matchup in the SEC title game (sorry, but that is all you are going to hear about this week).
K State over KU 17 to 10 - Again, another football team/program that should never be ranked in the top 25. They play in the big 12 north, so they are bound to get at least 12 wins each season. Dunno how anyone ever thinks this team is good. Glad to see we will basically be playing KSU in the big 12 championship.
Colorado over AtM 35 to 34 - Hahahahahhahahahaha no explanation needed.
Navy over Notre Dame 23 to 21 - Who isnt happy about this result? 2 consecutive loses to Navy both at home!? There goes Clausens heisman!
Stanford over Oregon 51 - 42 - Media darlings flavor of the week oregon gets crushed by Gehart and an average Stanford squad. Remember people, this is the PAC 10. No one is really that good.... USC beat ASU 14-9. 14-9! lol
LSU vs Bama - Almost... almost
Oregon State over Cal 31 - 14 - nothing funny here about the injury to Jahvid Best. However, how the heck is Cal ranked? Ill tell you how... by default. No one else is willing to step up in the top 25.
Clemson over FSU 40 to 24 - Cue the Bobby Bowden retirement rumor mill starting up again.
Houston over Tulsa 46 to 45 - The best game of the weekend, seriously. Im a homer for the Coogs, but damn they are the funnest team to watch in college football. At least their offense is. Mr Clutch does it again. 9 points in 27 seconds. Keenum for Heisman.
Nebraska over OU 10 to 3 - Lolllllllll 3 points?! 5 ints for Jones. OU sucks, no they really really do. I have no remorse for any player/coach/staff/student/fan of the University of Oklahoma. Karma.... karma
So there you have it, the perfect storm of college football wins and losses this weekend. Cant wait until Baylor next week! Hook em!

I'm with you for the most part
but in general it would look better for Texas if there were more ranked teams from the Big 12. I don’t think we’re going to need to worry about SOS if Texas wins out, but still… aside from OU/Ags I usually cheer for any team on our schedule to do well.

oh yeah
and that LSU INT that was called a non-INT was f-ing ridiculous. everybody in the country could see that he got 2 feet down in bounds.

That what i said
I officially hate the sec, if ESPN didnt make me hate them with all this “its the best conference ever, the defenses are great and blah blah blah”, then the blatant cheating makes me hate it. I find it ridiculous that “the best two teams in the nation (florida and bama)” need so much help from the officials to win a football game.
Absolutely terrible officiating yesterday in the lsu-bama game.

Here's the Bright Side
Now that Bama and Florida can crap the bed and still play in the SEC CG, the refs can ease up now.

i think the whole point of the refs being bought
is so that “number 1 and 2 fight it out in the SEC title game undefeated.” I get the feeling they want more than just a bama-florida match up.

Didn't think about it that way
You may be right. It’s no longer a coincidence with these terrible calls each week.

exactly
im not necessarily mad about one bad call, because it happens. But when the two top teams in the sec continually get bad calls going there way, you start to wonder. And after enough bad calls, it is no longer coincidence.

The best part of that bogus non-call
on the pass that should have been an LSU interception was listening to the commentators try and justify it not being overturned. “Reasonable people can disagree sometimes…”

And now for something completely different...
Would you believe, SEC people are saying the same things about Big XII officiating and Texas? Last week’s Kirkendoll forward progress “fumble” in particular. Nothing about yesterday’s game, but last week? There was a lot of similar grumbling about that call in these parts.
My best friend at work is an LSU grad. Can’t wait to hear what he has to say tomorrow…
Of course, even if LSU is (rightfully) granted that interception, they still have to drive 65-70 yards against Alabama’s defense with Jarrett Lee at QB. Ummmm, probably not going to happen.
Friends may come and go, but enemies accumulate.

im not saying lsu would have won
in fact i dont think they would have, but its not fair when the officials decide a game instead of the players on the field.

Kansas
You do know that KU’s SOS is better than UH’s right?
I know you’re a walking hyperbole and shouldn’t take what you say with any seriousness, but still.
by ajax77777 on Nov 8, 2009 3:19 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
U of H right now would beat Kansas by say 34+ points
The way that team has been playing, they dont deserve to even be ranked ahead of Baylor in the big 12 at this point
Hell, the only good year KU has had in the big 12 was a fluke of a year 3 years ago when they played a bunch of nobodys and somehow weaseled their way into a BCS game, where they beat the Va Tech (aka good defense, no offense). wow, (clap) good for u KU, good for u
I would much rather see TCU or U of H in the big 12 than those jokers.

Do you ever think things through?
Or do you just type on impulse?
You completely missed the actual point. Ajax stated KU’s strength of schedule was better than Houston’s. That’s it. He didn’t say KU would beat UH or anything like that. He wouldnt dare criticize your beloved “Coogs”. Relax Chicken Little, your sky isn’t falling.
UH cannot stop anyone. They win because they can score, but they have no defense whatsoever. I agree, KU has been playing very poorly as of late. Reesing is hurt and it shows badly. I’m not sure where you’re getting your ideas that KU’s season in 2007 was a fluke. They had a great season for them with an excellent defense enroute to an Orange Bowl trophy. Did Texas, or UH for that matter get an Orange Bowl trophy in 2007?
Not so much.
UH lost to UTEP. They have lost all respectability. I’m sorry

does anyone care that all this is on the internet?
i could care less what i type here, and almost all the stuff i say i dont think through. i know that lol i also know that he was talking about ku’s schedule. u of h this year did play an easier schedule than them, but who the heck cares? u of h is still a muuuuuch better team. we play a weaker schedule than Bama. Are we worse than them. i dont think so.
outside of the computer, i actually have a filter. but do i care what yall think of a post here on the internet? nope. this is a message board. meaning people can post on it. above in my post, i put out some points that i had observed, just like everyone else posts on this website. so you dont agree with me or the fact that i post knee jerk reactions to everything? doesnt matter to me. i just offer my 2 cents, as does everyone else

I don't "hate on" (ugh) anyone
It’s just that it ends up being a stream-of-consciousness post every time, and usually very provicial. The provicial part is pretty common on message boards, but most are a little more logical about it on BON, which is why I prefer this to many other team-centric sites. Heck, try a little logic on Arrowhead Pride. It’s embarrassing being a Chiefs fan many times, and not just because it’s a crappy team. I like BON because it’s usually a higher-quality poster.
by burntorangehorn on Nov 8, 2009 8:31 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I was specifically referring to this part:
They play in the big 12 north, so they are bound to get at least 12 wins each season.
Which is refuted by the SOS statement, unless you’d agree that UH should get at least 12.5 wins/season.
I think UH might beat KU, and probably would while Reesing’s a turnover machine, but based on shared opponents (UTEP and So. Miss) it wouldn’t go anything like what you think it would.
Do you remember their last meeting (KU and UH)? Who won? I’ll give you a hint. It was a bowl game since Mangino’s been there. Not that it’s a statement for the ages, but it might make you temper your enthusiasm for UH being on a completely different level than KU.

With regards to Iowa
The biggest proponent of the BCS is the big 10 commish, am I wrong? Imagine how he would feel if Iowa went undefeated and couldn’t make the title game because of the computers. I’m kind of bummed to see Iowa drop one (I figured they eventually would, but Northwestern? Really?), but the drama would have been sweet had they gone undefeated.
"Stats are for losers, I like winning games."
by bendj on Nov 8, 2009 4:11 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Ditto
I think most saw Iowa losing eventually, but are you serious that you’re relieved/happy/whatever that they lost? So you like seeing “the” Ohio State University at the top of the Average 10 every year?!?
However don’t forget that Stanzi went down early in the 2nd qtr – I think they would have won if he didn’t get injured.
Plus I want as much controversy as possible – I wanted Iowa to remain undefeated along with Cincy, TCU, Boise. Make the NCAA and BCS squirm and sweat.
Now do most of us think those teams could compete with Texas, Bama, Florida and maybe even Oregon (before Stanford)?? No they probably wouldn’t win, but for pete’s sake, why can’t the NCAA and college presidents find some kind of solution?!?!
Just like the original Bad News Bears movie when the team was at the Astrodome and the fans were yelling “let them play, let them play” ………how about we let these teams decide it on the field.
I think we would have an entirely different picture of the rankings and BCS if we waited for the polls to come out at least four weeks (minimum) into the season. For instance, Iowa (prior to the loss) could possibly have been ranked higher – they started low and they were bumped from the rankings altogether after their win over Arizona. So they had to climb back up. Also USC is currently higher than Iowa – um, USC has two losses and one of those was to Washington (who has 6 losses). Would USC beat Iowa? Probably but one loss (Iowa) is much better than two losses, esp. with an ugly Wash loss.
Sorry for rambling. I hate this system.

"Funnest??"
I really hope you do not have a degree from Texas because I really do not want you walking around devaluing my degree. And the constant “text type” is not helping either. I agree with burntorangehorn that this is the most intelligent and logical team centered blog I have been to, granted the competition is not difficult, and would like to keep it that way. I have to keep reminding myself that this is the same guy who kept pushing for Harrison Smith to be the starting point guard last season. That makes me feel better when I read something like this.

When does Texas play the piggies anyway ?
We owe them a return in hog-ville…
but they cancelled on us this year to play the Aggies at the Deathstar.
So I looked on MBTF….OOC we play UCLA next year. I don’t see the piggies scheduled for any year.

im just curious. it wasnt exactly obvious as to your reason. I happen to be a Michigan fan(burnt orange first tho) and also a RRod fan(cant really be a lover after this season). Is there a reason to hate him that i am unaware of? enlighten me.
