Throwback jerseys for A&M game
Was anyone else aware that we're wearing throwback jerseys against A&M as part of a NIke "rivalries uniforms" program? Apparently, nine other schools will be wearing throwback and/or new jerseys later this month. It was apparently supposed to be a bit more hush-hush, but FSU's official site unveiled their new uniforms over the weekend. Ohio State also announced that the Buckeyes will wear throwbacks against Michigan.
Per links here, here, and here. I don't see any official confirmation from the UT athletic department.
The uniforms (link here) don't look too much different than the throwbacks we wore to open the season a few years back.

They showed the uni on mb-tf in preseason
So I’d imagine it’s official…

I'm all for #s on the helmets
I wouldn’t mind that coming back permanently. Makes it much easier for me to personalize my rooting when one of the Goons drops someone in the backfield instead of having to wait for the replay.
That said, how throwback is it with a Nike swoosh on the front of the jersey?

Exactly...
the swoosh is all about the money. I’m all for throwing forward personally.

For a couple million
I’d put a Nike swoosh on my ass for that kinda money.

If I recall from the preseason announcement
This is supposed to be part of the commemoration of the 1969 championship season 40th anniversary. I heard a week or so ago that Nike was trying to do some rivalry week throwback BS, but we had already commissioned these uniforms to honor DKR and the 1969 team. Leave it to Nike to try to make it all about them.

The Swoosh
Was not on and should not be on a uniform commemorating a 1969 anniversary. It whores up the whole thing.

If that's true . . .
. . . it seems odd that we would be wearing the throwbacks and honoring the championship team at a road game.

I hate everything about throwbacks...
The whole modern, vintage, retro combo is growing tired.

Man, Me Too
I think it’s just one more distraction we could do without.

Not a fan either
always thought it showed a lack of imagination. Same with cars. Great, we had some fine looking cars in the 60’s. How about coming up with some new ideas…
The numbers on the helmet take away from the classic longhorn look. Ugh.

You are soooo right !
The modern whites (no numbers) are the best looking uni’s in college football. Why screw with that ?
by jimjar on Nov 9, 2009 5:57 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Even though...
The classic Longhorn look had numbers on the helmet, thus making this a throwback.

you know what I mean
I’m talking about the "new’ classic. Screw the old classic.

I like the throwback a lot better than every copycat college team wearing black jerseys. About as unoriginal as floral patterned toilet paper.

That's the wrong helmet
Just to throw a wrench into the discussion…If the throwback look is to commemorate the 69 championship team, the helmet is all wrong. That year we were wearing a special helmet all season with a 100 inside a football above the Longhorn (recall the famous Street/Royal photo in front of scoreboard at Arkansas) to commemorate the 100th anniversary of college football…but then, doing the throwback to that extent would be taking it a bit too far.

Did anyone else check out those FSU unis that were linked in this post?
Those are gross. They look like Texas Tech got a hold of Florida State’s logo. Black helmet, black and red jersey… yikes.

and also,
I don’t need to see a detailed outline of their junk for the sake of reducing wind resistance.

The above pic is somebody's fantasy uniform
Never were the numbers on the helmets worn with the TEXAS on the jersey.

No more jersey changes
I hate everything about “throwback uniforms” and changing jerseys for one game of the season. Wear the same uniform all season. Maybe my opinion has something to do with the black jersey Duke debacle a few years back…

. . . thanks for reading, HornFans!

A&M game
Why in the world would we possibly consider changing our uniforms considering how well of a season we are having? The only thing these jerseys are going to “throwback” is a good ol ass whoopin from Texas A&M.
