Dec. 11 column: Don’t consider the Longhorns as an underdog

I understand why the University of Alabama football team will be favored in the BCS Championship Game on Jan. 7.
But you will excuse me if I refuse to regard the University of Texas as some sort of “underdog.”
It has always been my opinion, even in the years of Fred Akers and John Mackovic at the Longhorn helm, that the Texas job was the single best coaching situation in college football. No job is foolproof — Alabama has suffered for a couple of foolish hires in its time, and so has Texas. So give Mack Brown full credit for what he has accomplished with the Longhorns. He has won big at a place where you should win big. That might not be the stuff of legend, but it is doing the job that he was hired to do, and not everyone can do that.
But there is never any reason to consider the Texas football team as an “underdog” in any situation.

flip side...
how many people read in Tuscaloosa now-a-days, what with the Inter web and all… ;-)
Wow. We’re not being undersold.
But we will still be undersold on the Heisman. So let’s not panic just yet, there still should be plenty of locker room material to go around.

Bama might have to blow us out to win
because if this is a close game, this favors UT heavily. What’s Mack’s record in close games? Incredible.

Good Article...
I hope nobody else reads it. Bulletin board material is always good. Fortunately ESPN never puts on any credible analysis other than what JUST played out the previous week.

every single time i hear a bama fan/article about how they respect texas and it’s not going to be a blow out….. it’s just another attempt by them to give us less fuel for our underdog fire. if you had to bet your life on one team or the other…. most everyone would be choosing bama. texas is the underdog, and deservedly so.
