Gerry Hamilton--great ESPN article on 2011 targets in Texas.
The main article is based upon Herschel Sims, while not only does he have the best name for a RB ever, but he's having the best production out of any RB in the state right now who is not named Traylon Shead. Sims is only 102 rushing yards away from having 1000 yards in the playoffs alone on the ground. He's excelled at kickoff returns as well this postseason and is going to be quite a recruit come next year.
Hamilton also reports on Brandon Williams from Pattison, Texas who is a very talented RB, however from a very small school. He runs a recorded 10.6 in the 100m and has attended mini camps for Texas this past year. According to Hamilton, Texas recruiters came by Pattison this week to check him out.
Hamilton then dives into the seemingly large pool of Defensive Backs in the Houston Area for 2011.
The list:
Leroy Scott from South Houston
Sheroid Evans from Sugarland Dulles (very very fast)
Kolby Griffin from St. Pius X
Charles Jackson from Klein Collins

sounds like a good article, i’ve personally been hoping we’d get a small feisty back like herschel sims, jahvid best, noel devine etc. a little pitbull who hits the holes hard, and slips out before anyone notices only to see him scampering down the field 15 yards away. someone with quick burst, great vision to find the holes our oline creates, and a naturally low center of gravity.

Now if only the o-line could create the holes!

Does anyone else put some of that on the gameplan?
Especially the stubborn non adjustment at the half?

adjustments dont work...
when your o-line is getting bullied at the LOS….

I'm fine with 6-0. Isn't Jaquizz like 5'6" with heels on?
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.

Fine, fine...
…I’m sure the right guy will come along sooner or later. Plenty of fish in the sea, you know.

Isnt it actually FB Dulles, as in Fort Bend, not Sugarland
I could be wrong. They were somewhat our rival in debate…well one of many rivals.
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.

Can you get in the ear of Evans? Maybe put a note on his windshield or something? I like this kid as an athlete. Do you know of his character make-up?
This could be a huge get for us along the lines of a Huff, Griffin, or Thomas caliber.
Yeah
I was joking…just read the bits on how many times these guys are being asked where they are going.
Leave the shinshi shinshi to the land thieves. We don’t have to slime our way with recruits.
How familiar are you with Evans bio?

Sounds like he's their most hyped defensive prospect since Tim Washington
Washington was c/o 2003 (my year), he tore his ACL (I think) senior year and didn’t play, but was still a 4* recruit and was signed by LSU. Don’t think he ever went and hasn’t made anything of his career.
I’ve covered this in other threads, but Dulles as a whole doesn’t think much of UT. Texas didn’t even pursue Darryl Stonum; in fact, Michigan has a pretty good pipeline with them. In other sports where we’ve churned out athletes (women’s basketball and Kelsey Bone being the most famous example), Texas doesn’t get ’em.
I see it similar to the Andrew Luck situation. Being a suburb school, most of these kids are well-off enough, cultured enough, and educated enough that going out of state isn’t a hindrance.
are you saying
We don’t stand much of a chance with Evans then? We have the recent breakthrough with Skyline and I would hope we are able to make inroads to Dulles. We haven’t sone so bad with Pearland, Brenham, or the West Orange region. Is Sugarland really over our heads?
I'm not a hardcore recruiting follower by any means
But stuff posted on here and over at Barking Carnival make it sound like we have a decent shot with Evans. The other plus is that his position is Texas-sized deep for the 2011 class, so it wouldn’t hurt too bad even if we had no shot with him.
Something tells me...
he will be Thorpe material. If he plays to his bio and he can put on a little weight…enter Maddog…without losing speed or agility, then this guy looks all american. I hope he sees the Akina resume currently starting in the NFL.
The county is Fort Bend, the city is Sugar Land
It is the only school in the country named after John Foster Dulles.
The more you know.
Remember Evans
is also a track star. Maybe having Goodwin on our team will help in the recruitment.
Dulles was formed when Sugar Land High (my alma mater) and Missouri City H.S. consolidated in the early 60s.
