Halliburton: DJ Monroe DWI dismissed today
[DJ pleaded down to "Obstruction of a Passageway", which is apparently a thing. Hopefully, he'll be back to returning kickoffs and being a decoy on offense in no time. --BZ]

as good news as this is for the horns this is real good news for the kid
now let’s hope that he doesn’t screw up like this again
things like this can really ruin your life going forward
hook em
The sad thing
is that his “screw up” was just being out late. Apparently the police reviewed the tape and concluded that he just as likely could have been nervous — a near certainty for a kid who isn’t supposed to be out.
Great news!

Awsome
Good news for DJ…bad news for Bama. I want to see DJ and Goodwin both in the game returning kicks.
great news
but WTF is “obstruction of a passageway”?
I believe it's the most common downgrade for DWI charges.
My friend just became a prosecutor and has been given all DWI cases to start out. As I understand it, this charge is proposed when there isn’t enough evidence for a DWI conviction. This allows the court some sort of conviction and obviously a lesser punishment for the accused.
Means that the Waco cop caught a Texas player in the road ... obstructing
The funny thing is that … you know that cop thought he was a big hero for nabbing the Texas football player the night before playing the Bears. Who knew that D.J. had committed the egregious offense of “being in the way?”

Hays County is not Waco, it’s down by San Marcos. And it was the night after the Baylor game, not before. I doubt the cop thought he was a hero. In all likelyhood, he would probably be more friendly to UT than Baylor.
It was near the RM 967/Buda exit. It seems that DJ got sick in the dude’s car, too.

If this report is accurate he got lucky.

Sounds similar to DWB
As Horncasting said, when the storey first broke Coach Brown made a point of saying that the versions between the cop and Monroe were diffrent. I’m sure DJ is glad to have this resolved so he can focus on school and Bama. I’m pretty sure he will now get the chance to go to the NC.

I've heard of that before
There is a guy I work with that had a DWI and he got off the same way. It helped save his job since he drives a company vehicle and can’t drive the vehicle if he has a DWI or suspended license. He was driving his own car at the time of the DWI which he did have some beer in him trying to drive home. It’s a way to get out of a DWI now days I guess.
I would think so
since I believe practices haven’t started yet.
Also, in the press conference when this all happened Mack made sure to point out that the suspension would last until there was an outcome from the legal side, and specifically also pointed out that there was a difference between the police store and Monroe’s story.
There's an excellent response on Bevo Beat
from a lawyer who says he’s handled bunches of these kinds of cases.
Summarizing: He says it’s very common when the prosecution’s case is weak or flawed or in doubt, it saves time, assesses some penalty, avoids the cost, and possible embarrassment, for the side that ultimately would lose the case.
To D.J.: Review Texas A&M game tape, fourth quarter, last UT kickoff return . . . you have competition, baby.
DJ v Goodwin
Goodwin 100 Meter Dash – 10.24
I know Monroe was timed in the 100 meter with 10.46 but he may have a faster time.
ATX
What difference does it make who's faster?
Ain’t gonna catch either one from behind unless you’re running a half-mile and they gas out.
I think that Goodwin looks good on the 1-yard-line kneel down, though ...

Track speed is not the same as football speed
I think they were pretty even in pads during the season, but with Monroe having no game situations since the Baylor game, Goodwin may have a slight edge on the field right now.
As for that 10.46 100 for Monroe, thats real slow for him. Where did you get that time, was it a football time or a track time, and was Goodwin’s the same type of timing? I ran at a track meet with Monroe when he was a junior at Angleton, and he was running faster than 10.46 then.

keep in mind the difference between hand- and e-timing
10.46 e-timed is like 10.2 hand-timed.

yeah thats right
Monroe ran a 10.45 e-timing to win the 4a 100m his sophomore year, and a 10.41 e-timing to win it his SR year. Both of those meets were windy and he had a 10.35 e-timing late in his SR year.

Update:
Halliburton reported"Mack brown plans to talk to dj monroe and his family, then will address issue of lifting suspension early next week."
Not much of an update but at least hints to possibly lifting the suspension.

Looks like he's going to play
Texas has cleared kick returner D. J. Monroe to play in the BCS title game against Alabama after his charges for driving while intoxicated were dropped in exchange for a plea agreement, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

Florida is letting Dunlap play in the bowl
His charges are pending and more serious (allegedly fell asleep behind the wheel and a cop watched him sit through several green lights-then tested him and he failed), but Meyer said they are letting him play based on his prior history of being a good student athlete. This is the second recent incident where FL is setting thier punishment at less than other schools’ norm and I wonder if it isn’t going to come back or if they start to have even more problems if they are light on discipline
