Jayhawks destroying Michigan
41-20, with 3:18 left in 1st half.

Michigan on a good run before the half
42-31 Kansas

Just got to my seats.
Pretty empty right now, Texas just took the floor.
This place is huge, going to be interesting to see how we shoot in here
"I don't ever miss free throws. I'm like 100-percent from the free throw line. I just don't think about missing and if you think about missing you're going to miss. I just take my time and know I'm going to make it and I do," McClellan said.

Practice and playing in 1st game against UNC
Completely different element.
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.
I agree he's very good
And I’m not one to question The Barn. I was just surprised, pleasantly.
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.
Didn't play in a game
But he has been able to practice all year…
While a game, especially against such a good team is a whole new ballgame, at least Jai has had a chance to build some chemistry in practice
Could be a promise
Maybe Barnes promised Lucas he would start. Or it could be a way of getting into Roy Williams’ head.
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. If they get mad, you're a mile away AND you have their shoes.
No way that's correct
No Dexter. Shawn Williams and Gary Johnson. That would be one of the smallest lineups we could put on the floor.
No way.
I’d be shocked if our starting five wasn’t the same that it’s been since the Ward injury—Balbay, Mason, Bradley, James, and Dexter.

Pittman isn't starting?

Ok Start. 7-4 UNC
Hamilton with a force and some open misses by Avery. But Texas is playing D and controlling the def glass.
This Carolina team doesn’t look like it wants to run.
--AW--
then.c. guy that just scored looks into the game, ed davis looks scared
i think if we keep muscling them we’ll take them out of the game soon enough
We need to go inside more and stop settling for outside shots
The D is good but we need to stay after it. That last dunk was everyone quitting after the first block

Horns sluggish at first but fg% starting to pick up.
Now our inside D needs to go to work. Barnes needs to throw Wangmene in there and bang some dang bodies. NC is getting shots at 5 ft. We cannot sustain that.
"We don't freestyle Texas Fight, big boy." - Coach Brown
17-16 Horns, under 12
Gary Johnson having trouble rebounding against Carolina length. We may see some Hill or Chappy soon along with more Wingman.
--AW--
good overall so far
We just need more shots to drop, focus on rebounding (on their end) and keep up the D.

I am really excited about this team
Any chance Bradley sticks around another year?
And just to think what the lead would be if we hit our FT's and started better.
"We don't freestyle Texas Fight, big boy." - Coach Brown
Avery Bradley
Wall is gonna continue to get the hype and that’s fine. But Avery Bradley is phenomenal.
--AW--
Last few games haven't been on national TV
Avery Bradley is so, SO good at basketball. He’s sprinting up the learning curve, too. He’s special.
You ain't hurt.
Earlier in the season, I was more impressed with Hamilton, but Bradley has just exploded these last few games.
A stupid system that works exactly like it's supposed to is still a stupid system.
Hamilton... is a truly elite talent.
Avery Bradley is a rarely special basketball player.
You ain't hurt.
Who knows what happens in the second half
But I didn’t expect to see Bradley-Brown capable of playing that well until February-March.
You ain't hurt.
95 combined points in the first half. nice quick pace.
3/19/2009 - Dogus Balbay Made a Three-Pointer. Never Forget.
54-41 Texas at Half.
Fantastic first halves by Avery Bradley, Gary Johnson, and J’Covan Brown. Damion James and Dexter were solid as well. And a nod to Matt Hill for some solid minutes at center.
Areas of concern: controlling defensive glass and making free throws. This Carolina team needs easy buckets off offensive rebounds to score efficiently. We were not very good keeping them from getting second looks in the first half. Gonna be important to block out well in the second. And if this does get close again, sinking a FT or two wouldn’t hurt our chances either.
Last, push the freaking ball. We more we can get out in transition while protecting the ball, the better off we’ll be.
--AW--
We have four guards, Lucas, Balbay, Bradley, and Brown
that are capable of pushing the ball. Then we have some greyhounds like James, Hamilton, and Johnson that can finish fastbreaks. No doubt we should be speeding up the pace.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 19, 2009 2:15 PM CST up reply actions
bradley
he is so good at playing the full 94 feet. sick.
awesome first half. blow these m*($&#)$*(#&s out!
we are good.
by the way, Jai gives us such a good second option to Balbay. he clearly has previous experience with the speed of college. When Jcovan handles the ball we lose a step at the point.
Hook ’em.
Avery is really showing up strong
so is gary johnson. good to see. he should be playing over wangmanee more often
balbay has had some uncharacteristic turnovers but his intesity is still there as always. love his game.
it was good looking half. solid defense and rebounding. damien james hasn’t even done much yet. i anticipate a big second half from him.
i know we have such a deep team but its frustrating to see so much substitution it feels like nobody can get on a run. seems to be working so can’t complain too much but
I think Barnes is just trying to mix and match
see what works. Then he’ll go with his favorite rotations in the 2nd half.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 19, 2009 2:17 PM CST up reply actions
I know but I would put
James at 5 and Johnson at 4. Both guys may be undersized but play bigger than they are. both are better rebounders than wingman who tends to be a liability on both ends honestly. I think he should be used more as foul insurance/depth. This game at least it appears as that’s how he’s being used
Great close to the first half
Remembering how we petered out at close of the half vs. Iowa, others .. this looked particularly fine.

but he is outmatched in this game, and we can’t really afford to have a player on the floor who poses absolutely no threat to score at all.
77-66 under 12
Horns have stopped playing lock down D since building the double digit lead. Too many easy looks on the low blocks. Carolina doing a better job in second of taking adv of their frontcourt size advantage.
Texas sill has an opportunity to get out and run, especially when UNC plays with three 6-10 or bigger players.

Smart play, Avery
A stupid system that works exactly like it's supposed to is still a stupid system.
I can't believe how badly we're killing them on the glass

I don't like james handling the ball in the middle of the floor.
sub in lucas for better ball-handling.

Dear Dick Vitale,
I hope you retire and never provide “analysis” ever again.

Great win.
I’ll hold off on anointing this team as a serious title contender until after the michigan state game.
3/19/2009 - Dogus Balbay Made a Three-Pointer. Never Forget.
AWESOME
Horns win 103-90. Rest of the country take notice: this team is for real.
Depth, talent, experience, inside scoring, ability to hit the three, and completly disruptive defense.
I’m thrilled with how this team looks in December!
--AW--
It's official
This team is for real. 2 Freshmen and 2 Seniors w/ 20+ pts each, plus a bench full of solid contributors… and they are only going to get better, as the younger guys get more experience, and Lucas works his way into the flow. Hamilton didn’t have a great game but there is so much depth that it didn’t matter.
That's actually a good comparison
look out when he can contain his shot selection. There were some good moments but 2-10 FG is horrible.

the fall-away off-balance long-distance jumper
is not a high percentage shot. He’ll learn that eventually.
i remember at one point saying j.r. smith is one of the dumbest basketball players i've ever seen
and i still stand by that statement when i said it
but if they slow down, get the right people around them
it starts to flow
he has the talent, he may never be transcendent … he just doesn’t have the basketball iq for that
but he could be a great weapon if he puts what he does have together
James, Pittman, Bradley, and Brown
combine for 89 of our 103 points.

would not be surprised
I also expect to see a very high +/- for Brown.
I’m going to wait till after the Michigan St. game. I want to put both gameflows in one fanpost since these are easily the two biggest games of the season so far.

I'm with you on Brown.
I still love Dogus, and I think his defense and ball distribution are extremely important, but when Brown plays within himself (as he did today), he’s a huge net positive on this offense. He is capable of doing almost everything Dogus can do on O (though he’s not quite as quick and his handle isn’t quite as good) plus he can shoot lights out. His defense seems a little lacking (he doesn’t get up on perimeter guards like Mason, Ward, Bradley and Balbay do—possibly because he knows he’s not super-quick and can get beat off the dribble), but he’s not bad on D. To borrow a baseball stat, Brown seems like he’s got a much better VORP than Balbay.
