'Horns Validate Early Season Blowouts with 103-90 Win over #10 UNC
Through the first nine games, the Texas Longhorns have won mostly behind solid defensive efforts. Today, it was the offense that took center stage as four 'Horns scored 20 or more and Texas held off North Carolina, 103-90, in Cowboys Stadium.
Txtwstr7 will come along later with more analysis. Use this as your post-game celebration thread.
Texas improves to 10-0 on the season, and lets the rest of the country know that this team is for real.

and it only took 32 minutes for the annoucers that we were winning rather than UNC losing
that shit is grating
but
fuck it we won
hook em
Great effort by the horns today.
I loved the mental toughness they showed when UNC cut the lead to 4 after a scoring drought by Texas. James converts a 3-point play, Texas then extends the lead to 9 and never looks back.
I wish I could soak up this win a little more but Michigan State awaits on Tuesday. We can’t afford to follow-up a great win like this with a bad performance and a loss at home. If they can win both of these big-time games back-to-back, it’ll go a long way to showing people this is an elite team.

Great game
Best part is we’re nowhere near a finished product. Barnes still has a lot of ammo to keep the players motivated to play better. Things we can improve on:
- Defensive intensity in the 2nd half. UNC shot nearly 50% from the field, definitely the best performance against our defense this season. Davis and Zeller combined to shoot 16-21 from the field.
- Controlling the defensive boards. Gave up too many put backs especially in the 1st half.
- Quiet game from Balbay. Was frustrated by the UNC length. Had more fouls (4) and turnovers (3) than he had points (2), rebounds (2) , steals (1), or assists (2).
- Hamilton had an ugly game, shooting 2-10 from the field and a couple of turnovers. Shot selection was the most disappointing.
- Horrible execution in the end as far as ball-handling and inbounding the ball. Just getting the ball across the half-court line was a miracle. Hope Tom Izzo didn’t catch that.
- Only shot 7-22 from beyond the arc, 5 of those made coming from Brown and Bradley. James missed all 5 of his attempts.
- Bradley has an excellent game but needs to improve on his jumpshot.
One major positive: we shot 24-34 from the freethrow line (70%). HOORAY! I’ll take that every game. Brown made all 6 of his FTs.

As I sit in traffic: Fun, fun game. Horns looked good!
P.S. Stadium is nice, but not good for college sports (was here for Big 12 game, too). Give me DKR or the Drum any day.

series is now 3-2
this was only the fifth time these programs have met. Texas has won the last three for a 3-2 series lead.

Let's forget the Reggie Bush stuff......
Maybe it was an infraction (seems likely) but it’s been four years. There’s obviously not enough information/evidence for the school to be punished. He’ll be retired from the NFL before they get to the bottom of the investigation.
The Mayo deal is likely to get their butts nailed.
Didn’t anybody but me think it was kinda odd that McKnight just suddely on signing day, or about that time, decide to attend USC when the school was never listed as one of the top contenders for him?
Just sayin . . .
more from the Pac 10...
…though it’s baseball, but still interesting.

ESPN
I’m not a “ESPN hates Texas” conspiracy theorist, but it is interesting to me that when you go to their front page right now there’s no mention of this game. It was #2 vs. #10. How does that not get a mention?
'Til Gabriel blows his horn...
They'll get around to it
While I don’t think they’re in a hurry to advertise UNC losing, the game was aired on their network, and the Texas/MSU game on Tuesday night will air on their network, and they’ll want to use this game to draw in an audience for that one. They’ll give it some publicity. They just don’t update their main page that frequently.
During the game, it was the main story.
If there weren’t an NFL game tonight featuring the Cowboys and undefeated Saints, I’m sure it would still be up there.
What a horrible stadium for basketball...ugh.
That being said…excellent win for the horns. Superb job gentlemen.

Watching on TV, I had to ask myself whether there are any good seats there. The regular stands looked miles away from the court and the added seats were not inclined. I really don’t like to see the raised court. Somebody’s going to get hurt.
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. If they get mad, you're a mile away AND you have their shoes.
Guess cutting the pizza prices from $90 to $60
took away from the seating budget.

First game
that I’ve actually sat down and watched this season…though I’ve been following the BON breakdowns of previous games. Accordingly, I was amazed to see such a dominant performance given that we didn’t shoot well, and didn’t defend as well as I thought we might (given the previous BON reports that I’ve read).
That’s not to say that there weren’t great indivdual plays (blocks and steals), as I saw Bradley make a half-dozen plays on his own…but it seemed that UNC got a lot of open looks in the second half (probably why they shot such a high percentage).
However, back to my original point, it is great to see a team that can dominate even when the other team is knocking ’em down.
Composure
I think in Mega games like this with such atmosphere and hype it comes down to composure instead of the stats… I was surprised our stats were all over the place too…
That said: Damion and Big Sexy set the tone for the team and we just looked confident the entire game. No fear, no deer in a headlight look, just Swagger
Just got back from the game (took a while to get out of there and do other things)
I wasn’t that big of a fan of the place even for the Big 12 title game, much less a basketball game, but oh well. I’m glad I got to watch this game live.
I love our depth and our athleticism. We took down a pretty good UNC squad and we still have several things to work on, most notably transition defense and breaking the press. At the least, following our 5-10 free throw shooting performance in the first half, we shot surprisingly well in the second half.

And aren't we lucky the team has not yet peaked?
These guys just out play the opposition. Period. After they jumped out to a 15 pt lead early second half, they appeared to lay off a bit. Not sure if it was due to Barnes line up or they thought they had the game won. That is something they will not be able to do against a scrappy MS team.
Where did you sit? Curious your take on basketball at the Death Star.

Great Win!
Got a little nervous when NC closed it to four but never thought we’d lose once we came out of halftime sharp.
That was a great win against a deep, talented nationally respected team. That said, we still don’t have a signature win in a hostile environment yet. The Horns need to take care of business against the Spartans on Tuesday night, but the next most important “test” game coming up is at Arkansas on 1/5 simply because of the intensity of the SWC rivalry that still lingers, but really then at UConn on 1/23. I really am looking forward to those games to find out how our talented freshmen handle big loud crowds against good big-league teams.
Last season I was pretty skeptical of what we had all season long, our weaknesses early season stayed in place leading to an early round NCAA departure. No such skepticism this season. This is going to be one awesomely fun season to take in, truly can be a football and basketball championship year – and our baseball team is supposed to be better, too!! (oh yeah, go Gazelles!)
If only Nike had given us some sweet black uniforms to wear.
Possibly the most impressed I’ve ever been after a single game for UT baseketball. I just hope we don’t find out at the end of the year that this UNC team is somehow mediocre.
Dear Univ. of North Carolina, Thanks for Mack Brown.
Dear State of North Carolina, Thanks for Rick Barnes.
sorry--wrong button....
First extended look at the Horns for me this season—wow. This team is talented. Barnes has had a lot of good players at Texas but this team is deep. Lots of big, fast kids that can run, jump and shoot.
Carolina is good but Texas just overwhelmed them, particularly in the paint and on the offensive glass. PB’s pre-game anaysis was prescient as Balbay and (particularly) Bradley penetrating opened up the offense.
Looking forward to Tuesday’s game. Izzo and MSU are always tough.
Bradley
Bradley’s J is sweet, he just had a bad day (shooting-wise). See UT-Pan American game for further proof of AB’s badassery.
