NFL Horns: Break Out Day for a New Horn
Quan Cosby caught his first pass in the NFL! He also caught the two others thrown his way for a total of 47 yards on 3 catches. Toss in his 1 tackle on STs and his 5 Kick returns for a total of 94 yards (31 long), and this was a spectacular day for Cosby. This really is a great story. He was key to our success last year but went undrafted. I don't think any of us who saw how hard he worked and how good of a player he was didn't expect him to earn a spot on the roster and eventually contribute. However, I'm not sure any of us expected him to be contributing this much this early in his rookie year. Way to go Quan.

David Thomas: Also having one of his best days ever was TE David Thomas for NO in a close loss to Dallas. Thomas started for the injured Shockey and caught 8 passes for 77 yards.
Vince Young: A lot of Horns to talk about in this game, and I'll start with VY. He had 3 TDs and 236 yards with 14/27 passes and an INT to lead the Titans to a victory over the Dolphins (his int was crazy. I think it was tipped 4 or 5 times). The odds are low that they'll make the play offs, but it would be an amazing story if VY brought them back from 0-6 to make it. Vince also scrambled for 24 yards on just 2 carries, but they were important ones in a 27-24 game. Both came on 3rd and longs to keep TD drives alive in the 1st and 3rd quarters. That is why you start VY and not Collins. How much do you have to be paid to realize that?
Ricky: He did his best to help bring his team back with 80 yards and a TD on 19 carries. He also scored the 2 point conversion that sent this game into overtime. His fumble did hurt the Dolpins, but not as much as Henne's 3 ints (one to a Horn that I'll get to in a minute).
Bo Saife: Playing as a safety valve for Vince as always, Bo had 5 receptions for 40 yards.
Michael Griffin:What a day for Griffin. It has been a slow year for him, but he really stepped up today and won the game for the Titans. He did drop an interception that would have sealed the game in the 4th, but he made up for it by picking off Henne in OT to set up the winning field goal. He also recovered a fumble early that set up a field goal.
Cedric Benson: Getting back to the Bengals game, Cedric was held in check most of the day. He only ran for 53 yards on 15 carries. He also had a couple of catches for 19 yards in a close loss to the Chargers.
Jamaal Charles: Wow. What another incredible day. Charles looks like he's going to keep this starting job for a while. He had 154 yards (career high?) on 25 carries. Again, he had a huge play going for 47 yards on a score. Toss in 2 receptions for 16 yards and 1 return of 24 yards for good measure. No lost fumbles.
Roy Williams:Not much to talk about here in the Cowboys' win over NO. Just 1 rec for 14 yards.
Quentin Jammer: He was instrumental in helping take down Ced and Cosby's Bengals with 6 tackles (4 solo) and an interception late in the game to set up a TD.
M Huff: Huff helped keep the Titans playoff hopes alive as the Raiders upset the Broncos. Huff had 4 solo tackles and broke up a couple passes.
Casey Hampton: Wreaking a little havoc in the backfield, Hampton had 5 tackles (3 solo) and half a sack.
Jermichael Finley: The TE had another big day for the Packers catching 9 passes for 74 yards and a TD in a loss to Hampton's Steelers. Wow. What I'd give to have had him stick around for 2 more years.
I'll update this tomorrow if Orakpo has a good game. Hopefully he'll make some more progress towards the sack record for a rookie.
That's is a lot of success for Horns in 'lime light' positions (YV, Benson, Ricky, Finley, JC) over the past few weeks. Any wonder that we're getting the pick of the crop when it come to recruits? Our coaches can just point to these guys and say, "look this is where we'll get you." Unless they're on the OL.

OL???
Leonard Davis – Cowboys 2 time Pro Bowler
Lyle Sendlein – Cardinals
Kasey Studdard – Texans
Justin Blalock – Falcons
Derrick Dockery – Redskins
The big boys up front may have had their trials and tribulations this year, but the Horns are represented in the NFL. May not be the glamour position, but playing well at Texas can get you to the big show even on the line.
Hook Em!
i think he meant the current OL
is beyond help.
Disciplina Praesidium Civitatis.
Not to mention
Jonathan Scott – Bills
Tony Hills Jr. – Steelers
Mike Williams – Redskins
Also, not sure how much playing time Roy Miller is getting, but he has 27 tackles and 2 sacks for the Bucs.

Yes, we’ve certainly had some good OL Horns go through the NFL.
Unless I’m incorrect, we’ve also only had 1 make it the past 3 years (Studdard drafted in the 6th round, and he wouldn’t be starting if the Texans hadn’t lost their starter). Throw in the fact that Ulatoski was being considered as a first day draft canidate and now he’s off everyone’s radar, and the complaints from coaches/former nfl players/recruits about our OL development, and I think it is a bit of a concern.
But yes, I’m mainly alking about this year’s OL.
Studdard, Blalock, Hills
Were all within the last 3 drafts.
Still a valid point, although I think you’d see more getting drafted last year and this year if Webb and Watts (and maybe) Burnette had stuck.
Horns in the clutch.
Although Ced and Quan didn’t light it up stat-wise, they were huge on the bengal’s final drive to tie it up. I think all of quan’s catches came on that drive including the one to set up the field goal.

What if . . . ?
Playing the “what if” game: What if Vince stayed one more year?! What if Jamaal Charles would have been on the team last year to help out Colt. May have been the difference for beating TTech and winning a national championship.
I don’t know if it’s just me but in spite of Roy Williams setting all the receiving records at UT, I think he frustrated me back then just as much as he does now on the Cowboys. Dropping passes left & right, slow-footed despite great speed, an inability to get separation and help bail out the QB, and disappearing in big games (vs. OU). Gosh, I love the dude and he’s got a great attitude but he’s doing the same ol’ things. Jordan Shipley is totally opposite in every way.
sad but true
And you know who reminds me alot of Roy Williams? A certain recruit from Ft Worth. Would love him and has great talent, just sayin.

I think we would have at least won a conf championship VY’s senior year if he’d stuck around. There is no way A&M beats us by scoring 13 with VY leading the team. Offense wasn’t our problem against Kstate even with McCoy injured. I don’t know if our D was good enough that year to beat OhSU and then UF.
I don’t think Charles would have been the solution last year. We only lost 1 game, so there wasn’t much room to improve. Obongnayya did a good job. I’m not saying he wouldn’t have helped and I’d have turned him down if he wanted to come back. But if I could pick a position that left early that we had a need for, I’d go with Finley at TE. Our problems at TE the past 2 seasons (due to injuries mainly) have been well documented. Maybe we don’t run that damn play out of the endzone for a safetey (that we continue to run…) if we have a TE that can block and catch. McCoy rolls out on the play action and dumps it for 3 or runs for 3 to give us some breathing room.
ESB has been doing admirably for what is being asked of him, but in addition to at least one of our big time OL commits from a year ago stepping up, my other hope for next year is that we have the option of bulking Greg Smith up and moving him to tackle/guard because we have a true TE back. I think he would be at least as good of an option as Snow (I think Snow is next in line at guard).
Brings Up The Quandry
Where is OL next year? We have the bio to make up a dominant O-line and if we have any kind of coaching at all for them then they go stellar. Allen, Walters, Mitchell, Porter, Snow, Smith, Poehlman, Kelly? Who have I left out? I’m not even counting Hopkins and Espinosa. Good gracious man, we could be awesome.
If there’s any need for coaching change next year, then does it start here?
That’s what I’m hoping and what I’ve seen posted here. Mcwhorter (sp?) needs to either step down or step it up.
Hes retiring.
Has long said when his son graduates he will retire. Confirmed that again this year now that his son is a senior. Deloss and the staff will have to find a new stunt double for Mack to coach the O-Line next year.

By all accounts McWhorter is gone after this season.
His son, who walked on, will be graduating, and so McWhorter is hanging it up. Best of luck to him in all future endeavors, but he’s probably a couple of years late.
Could we get Alex Gibbs to come in for one year and train someone?
He has Coach Boom intensity and demands excellence. Do we know of anyone on the wire?

David Thomas
I was always mystified at how little he played in NE. During his senior season I always had the impression that he was going to be one of the best TE’s in the NFL some day, but he only got glimpses of playing time with the Pats. I would have figured that a guy like him would be a dream for Tom Brady. It is good to see him getting some solid time in NO, and maybe if Drew Brees watches some Rose Bowl highlights he will figure out what a weapon he has.
If you're so sure of what it ain't, how about telling us what it am!
