Wonderful news.
I’m guessing Collins is a lost cause.
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.
Collins will not play.
Brown stated that he would burn his red shirt for one game and that he is not guaranteed to play.
ATX
Yep, not really a lost cause, so much as preserving the redshirt
Which I totally support. I mean, there’s the off-chance he could be needed in the BCSCG, but I sure hope that he’s not so desperately needed that the coaches need to pull off the redshirt, burning an entire season.

Collins should be a lethal threat next year
He should have his credits toward his degree inline since he had all year to work at it, and he will have two years eligibility left to play because he did not rs his freshman year.
Scott would be a great help agianst the run.
The guy is not afraid to play up at the line and be physical.
3/19/2009 - Dogus Balbay Made a Three-Pointer. Never Forget.
And he would be huge in Special Teams
His physicality is something we definitely need in coverage.
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.
+2
He would also fill a void at safety. The question is that can Brewster step it up for the MNC game. If not I expect Scott to fill that spot.
Both players have been playing with the team so there should not be much drop off due to the suspensions.
ATX
Sorry Scott not suspended ruled...
ineligible due to lack of academic progress towards a degree.
ATX
Huge
Adding a guy like Scott to the defensive backfield and special teams is one of those things that the TV talking head will never mention.
I’m 100% sure he’ll be on the field on kickoff coverage. However, I don’t think we can rely on him in the defensive backfield outside of obvious run situations. Unless he put in some tremendous work from the sidelines and in practice, how can you trust him to be in the right spots in pass coverage?
Still its great news, and I’m glad that he stuck with it. A lot of kids would have pissed away the opportunity at the first sign of adversity.

They took it down...
check with the Austin American Statesman later in the week or check with am1300 “The Zone” websites to see if they posted the press conference.
ATX
who are these players?
What you're seeing is team spirit. It's like the Holy Spirit, but more powerful.

Well...
DJ Monroe is a freshman who primarily returns kickoff, and he’s one of the best in the nation. He’s also one of the fastest in the nation, and alongside Goodwin, we could easily have the fastest tandem in kickoff returns in college football.
Christian Scott is the creator of an online interactive top ten list website, which is usually quite humorous, but has been somewhat weak lately. Their link is here: www.csittl.com
In all seriousness, he’s probably our 2nd most talented safety who had some off the field academic issues which kept him off the field all season. He hits like a brick, and apparently was in line to take Blake Gideon’s spot over the summer.
Brandon Collins is arguably our second best “reliable” receiver. He’s got glue for hands, and has developed alot of trust with Colt McCoy over the past 2 years. He was supposed to take the position that Quan Cosby left open when he graduated last year.
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.
I'm not convinced Scott would've won the starting safety job over Gideon
But he was at least making a push.

From what I recall
he was making a damn good push. But I could be wrong. Ive drank alot since then.
Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.
He was making a push but in the end Gideon won...
due to his understanding of the game and having a knack for being in the right place at the right time.
ATX
Not sure it would have ended that way though.
Scott was making great strides and had he been in the games against the likes of atm, ou, and Kansas, then I think he’s starting.
None the less, I’m glad to see he’s available for the MNC. Scott’s striking ability turns the Nickle into a full 50 cents.
The reason Gideon won in the end was because.....
Scott was ruled ineligible. Scott has caught on to the defense and will be starting next year, no doubt

DJ discussion...

Kriess beat me to it but if you want to see a discussion regarding Monroe follow the link.
ATX
Interesting DJ Monroe stat...
“Monroe set a school record by returning two kickoffs for touchdowns this season. He is second nationally in average yards per kickoff return at 35.79. He also had 110 yards rushing on 20 carries this season.”
He did this in 10 games who knows what his stats would look like if he wasn’t suspended. He was just gaining steam when he was suspended.
ATX
Even more interesting, I've read on cfbstats.com that Alabama has some of the worst kick coverage in the nation.....
1 month is a lotta time...
to work on improving coverage. Although it would be very difficult to adjust to the speed MG and DJ have.
Greg Davis wears Sex Panther... and nothing else.
ughh...
this had us ripping our hair out all year. a prime example vs north texas. NORTH F’IN TEXAS!
Roll 'Bama Roll: The Champagne of 'Bama Blogs.
worse than ours? hard to imagine both schools are so weak there...
I wonder what it is about this achilles heal for both our teams?

"We don't freestyle Texas Fight, big boy." - Coach Brown
Game plan by committee?
I posted this on another thread but I’m posting it here also because I think it’s an important point from yesterday’s press conference…
Mack from yesterday’s press conference talking about Suh: "We were disappointed as coaches we didn’t do a better job of doing some things by scheme to help with him. Hopefully we’ll do a better job in this game."
His statement implies two things:
- Mack didn’t like the blocking scheme against Nebraska, and
- Mack and some of the other coaches will be more involved in the offensive game plan
This is too big of a game to leave to one or two guys to draw up the game plan. I think Mack will put on his best CEO three piece and shoes and have heavy input into the offensive game plan along with the rest of the offensive staff. Who knows, maybe even Boom will be asked for input given the two defensive schemes are so similar.
I’ve been harping about the first point all year and others have been harping about the second point all year (GD game plans). I think whatever happens people should realize that this game will not feature a strictly Greg Davis game plan.
