Big Game up in my neck of the woods...
I saw Texas play MSU in Detroit. Disappointing outing that night. Hoping for a better result this time. This is for bragging rights around here. Hook’em Horns
A win tonight would be sweet
I think Izzo is one of the very best coaches around and I admire the way he prepares his team to play. Our last two go-rounds with MSU were dynamite games, but we came out on the wrong end. If we can beat these guys tonight, it will be a real milestone for the program.
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. If they get mad, you're a mile away AND you have their shoes.
A very good early season test
Texas football, for some reason, gets labeled “soft” by national media every year. Most UT fans that watch every game know this is highly inaccurate. Just ask ou’s “hard-nosed” teams that now annually get their arses handed to them by the Longhorns.
But Texas Basketball is totally the opposite. Nationally, everyone knows they are one of the toughest and most physical units year-in and year-out. Michigan State, however, is one of the few that has an even tougher reputation in basketball. Always very tough – physically and mentally – a tribute to Izzo’s coaching. This is going to be a great barometer to see the toughness and talent come together for the Horns. Since Coach Barnes has showed up, this is the first team I’ve really thought is arguably the best in the nation. We’ll never know until we play KU and then play in the tourney. Enjoy this fun season.
Wonder what the attendance will be today

Great start!
"I don't ever miss free throws. I'm like 100-percent from the free throw line. I just don't think about missing and if you think about missing you're going to miss. I just take my time and know I'm going to make it and I do," McClellan said.
Thankfully it's Bilas and O'Brien,
since the Rockets are pre-empting Craig and Eddie on 610 Houston.
Nice to see Bradley make a J to start the game
he couldn’t buy a J against UNC.

leads the team with 2 assists. Having both on the floor at the same time would be great offensively. Not so great defensively.

2 quick fouls…he’s still all amped up from the NC game…
BTW, isn't that 54b in the Dos Equis commercial...I'm just saying.
"We don't freestyle Texas Fight, big boy." - Coach Brown
Barking Carnival nailed it so far
Trips Right on his 3 keys to the game:
2) Officiating. This will sound funny especially considering the opponent, but if the game is officiated like a typical Big 10 scrum where they let you bump and bang, MSU has little if any chance. If Texas is allowed to push and shove and negate the position rebounding style MSU employs, Texas is likely able to duplicate the dominance on the glass they displayed Saturday. If you see an over the back whistle or two early on, buckle your seat belt. Same holds true on the perimeter where Brown, Balbay, and Bradley would like to be physical with Lucas and Lucious.

still in good shape. They can't match our depth, and i think the foul trouble will hurt them more in the second half
The problem is...they just did match our depth. Took Dexy out of the picture and made the other 3 bean poles look like 7th graders
agree
need to keep pittman in for the entire 2nd half until he fouls out
they are out rebounding us like crazy
"We'll be baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!"
by greenspointexas on Dec 22, 2009 7:05 PM CST up reply actions
I agree that foul trouble negated some of our best players, but our depth allowed us to keep it close.
Regardless, this will be a good game to prove we can adjust to going without Pittman to win a game if need be. If we make free throws, we’d be ahead….
I agree
Morgan, Roe, Lucas, Summers, and Green all with 2 fouls.
Keep driving and forcing more fouls!
by goingforthecorner on Dec 22, 2009 7:06 PM CST up reply actions
How about just a little CONTROL...slow down...just a little...
We have NO answer down low when Dexy goes out.
Sad, we're shooting 52% from the field
and yet we only have 34 points. Why?
12 turnovers, and we’re just 4-11 from the foul line. Also, only 2 offensive rebounds. MSU/Texas rebounding battle at a total standstill. Hopefully Dexy changes that when he returns.

MSU

I don't mind getting into a street fight
it’s just that the refs won’t allow it. Would LOVE to have Pittman in a street fight.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 22, 2009 7:08 PM CST up reply actions
could be worse given Pittman spent most of the game on the bench.
…and what’s with izzo whining until the refs overlook traveling and msu fouls? why does he merit a conference with the refs?
...and we've found out how to spark a Texas basketball crowd.
violate the code of our mausoleum with noisemakers!
Held the spartans to 2 points in the last 4 minutes. We need to be able to turn that into more points, though
MSU shooting 50% like we are
but our defense has disrupted their offense. 15 turnovers.

when did Barnes become such a passive coach
i can’t remember the last time he got into an official or took up for a player.
maybe we are finding the role for hamilton....spot up shooter.....
once people start running at him, he can put the ball on the floor and attack the basket
Bad foul on Hamilton
not good. They’re actually hitting their FTs

by goingforthecorner on Dec 22, 2009 7:42 PM CST reply actions
Hamilton quietly has 14
he’s had his awful moments in this game, but that’s exactly why Barnes has him out there. Not many players that can shoot threes on this team.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 22, 2009 7:42 PM CST reply actions
34% for the season
but 4-6 tonight. Better 3pt% than FT%
by goingforthecorner on Dec 22, 2009 7:44 PM CST up reply actions
THIS is why you can't bench Hamilton....I think Barnes is using a longer leash with him as he tries to figure it out.
Brown and Bradley are there, and I hope Hamilton is on the way
Remember Kenny Taylor?
if we could just get Hamilton to shoot spot-up threes like that, he’ll be a very nice role player on this team.
by goingforthecorner on Dec 22, 2009 7:43 PM CST reply actions
Hamilton will be better than that.....he's clearly a guy that can creat his own shot, not just spot up. But,he needs to learn to play within the context of his offense
no doubt
but right now when he tries to create, bad things happen
by goingforthecorner on Dec 22, 2009 7:46 PM CST up reply actions
Great game considering...
Pittman has been handicapped by the refs because hes a beast
Bilas is objective
per my comment at the top of the thread. Just a stupid topic this early in the season. Would his employer allow him to say anything else at this point?

gotta be careful. They’ll be shooting FTs

I do too
He is one of my al-time favorites! But something there are just players better than you.
"I don't ever miss free throws. I'm like 100-percent from the free throw line. I just don't think about missing and if you think about missing you're going to miss. I just take my time and know I'm going to make it and I do," McClellan said.
yeah pretty sad
I thought he was going to be the next Royal Ivey in his freshman year. Now he’s just going to warm the bench all season. Lets face it, he doesn’t deserve a single minute of playing time.

He used to knock down shots all the time...
Just has not this season.

Classy
absorbing the shot clock violation.
11 point win, now the closest margin of victory. Never thought we’d beat UNC and MSU by 24 points combined.
Feels damn good to defeat an Izzo coached team.

You're right! Big win
I am also glad Pittman was into the game still and not sulking. What a pair of wins this week. What a Christmas gift!
It's a Horns' world. Even Aggies play hoops with a burnt orange ball.
I love this team so, so much.
I’m all-aboard the sunshine express to the final four!

Who would have thought going into the game

Only real negative of the game
we actually shot better from three than the foul line… facepalm.
