That front 4 will be nasty

Bible, Dorsey, Reggie Wilson and potentially Jackson Jeffcoat?! If we are to land Jeffcoat, I can’t think of a single class Texas has landed with as much potential as this. Throw in Hicks, who I say Texas has a very strong chance of getting, and this class is off the charts.

Bible, Dorsey, Wilson, and Jeffcoat

And they’d be opening the door for Hicks, Tevin Jackson, and Aaron Benson.

Look at the 2010 class. If Jeffcoat and Hicks were to commit, Cobbs were to play safety, Phillips went to CB, and the guys were to actually pan out (unrealistic to expect, of course), then UT would have a Rivals four-star-or-better guy at every position. Heck, that could happen even without Jeffcoat, as Greg Daniels is also in the mix.

Hicks (and every other LB) should watch video

of how Ray Lewis and Peter Boulware were free to make plays and dominate when they had Tony Siragusa and Sam Adams up front earlier this decade. I really cant see how having Dorsey and Bible doesnt register with these players and their coaches when deciding which school to go to.

I read your headline as:

Jordan Hicks commits! Now I am disappointed… oh well, nice article nonetheless. Does anyone have any idea how these kids decide which game to go to?

I can see why White would go since his coach and teammate are going to the UA game, but what about the others? What do you get for playing in the game, besides more exposure? Do they give out gifts like bowls?

by Thor84 on Dec 29, 2009 2:54 PM CST reply actions

Probably so (gifts)

But if I were playing in these, I’d choose a Floriday destination over San Antonio. I can go to SA any time. Florida is a little tougher.

I thought you meant "Floriday"

Of, relating to, or suggestive of Floriday. Used in a sentance: New York is unusually Floriday today. Pronounced -Florida E.

Besides, Orlando's just a nice place to go

It’s not Martha’s Vineyard or anything, but there are lots of fun things for high schoolers to do. They get to go to a lot of the theme parks (not sure which ones exactly, but Sea World, Disney World, Universal Studios, Disney Quest, Animal Kingdom, Gatorland, Wonderworks, etc. are all there), they stay in a nice hotel, and the practices all take place at Disney’s Wide World of Sports. Honestly, I really love San Antonio, and I really want to be more in the corner of the Army game, but I think ESPN’s influence and the more attractive venue are going to make the UA game the one almost all the top recruits will choose in the future.

by burntorangehorn on Dec 29, 2009 5:38 PM CST up reply actions

Oh, and I believe they get a UA game apparel kit

I know for all the UA combines they get a UA combine apparel kit, which apparently consists of an armload of UA gear for every type of weather, UA shoes, jackets, etc. UA shoes are garbage, and their apparel is very overrated (at least in nearby Baltimore, where they’re headquartered) performance-wise, but it’s a very slick prize for invitees. What does the Army game offer?

by burntorangehorn on Dec 29, 2009 5:41 PM CST up reply actions

The practices are all in the Orlando/Kissimee area

At Disney’s Wide World of Sports. I believe they spend all week in Kissimee/Orlando/Lake Buena Vista, except for the final walk-throughs the night before the game, and then the game itself.

Darius White had dinner tonight with 4 UT commits: Aaron Benson, Adrian White, Ashton Dorsey and Mike Davis. That’s a good sign.

Source?

Any source or link saying that, or just heard that through the grapevine? Just curious, not accusatory or anything.

Thanks!

Glad to hear it was a first-hand source

Also

on a recruiting board a guy who says his brother in law is the AD at Jordan Hicks high school says it has been pretty common knowledge at Lakota West HS that Jordan will go to Texas, he loves Muschamp…..which really means nothing but speculation. Felt i’d fuel the fire though.

A lot of ‘recruiting analyst’ such as Mike Farrell predict that Darius White, Jackson Jeffcoat, and Jordan Hicks all end up at Texas. Again I consider all of this anyone’s guess until they commit, but at least we seem strong with late recruits this year unlike other years when we appaear to be ‘that other team’ on a studs list.

by Jhal2315 on Dec 29, 2009 11:24 PM CST reply actions

That trio would close out the recruiting push with a bang.

They plus Eric Humphrey would round out 25. That would close the door on any last-minute guys like Mims was last year, but it’d be the best haul in years, it would seem.

Anyone know about Humphrey? Does he have a solid offer, or is his offer contingent on one of the other three outstanding offers not being accepted?

by burntorangehorn on Dec 30, 2009 6:57 AM CST up reply actions

I didn’t know he had an offer yet, and Eric Humphrey is this year’s Mims.

by Displaced Longhorn on Dec 30, 2009 8:50 AM CST up reply actions

That would be make it the best recruiting haul EVER!

Okay fine, it would definitely be the best defensive haul we've ever had!

The offense does leave a little to be desired but we would again have some talented WR prospects.

Yep, although UT hasn't been lacking in WR prospects

It’s WR products—prospects who have developed—that have been lacking at times.

Has Garrett Gilbert Stepped Into Heaven or What? Who Steps Up In 2010?

I would think Gilbert is salivating and can’t wait until spring drills start. What a crew to throw to.

The biggest “show me” I see for 2010 will be Trey Allen. He needs to show up in shape, angry, and with a fiery hunger to start next year. I think next years O-line can be better than this years by leaps and bounds if they get after it. Mason Walters should come alive and I really want to hear some noise from Porter as well. Give Espinosa and Hopkins a year or two and reload.

A Gainsville beat writer seems to think Hicks is headed to Texas:

Write-in question:

Ed,
Now that it is out in the clear, what affect will the Urban Meyer leave of absence have on uncommitted recruits such as Powell, (Jordan) Hicks, (Seantrel) Henderson, etc? Or will it not really matter due to fact that they are probably being recruited by other UF assistants coaches?

Writer’s response:

It matters greatly. The problem that Florida has is that even though they are naming Addazio the interim coach, there is still no definite word on when (or if) Meyer will come back. There is no guarantee at all. Like I said above, Powell and Meyer are so tight and his recruitment has been done personally by Meyer. A source close to Hicks told Adam Gorney of Rivals.com that Meyer’s situation is hurting Florida’s chances. Hicks will announce on National Signing Day and that’s actually a good thing for the Gators. It will give Meyer andAddazio enough time to visit him and keep up the communication until the very end. Texas has the upper hand with Hicks and I find it hard to see him going anywhere else at this point. Meyer’s situation drastically changed his mindset, but things started to turn Texas’ way after Charlie Strong left for Louisville. Still, there is time for Meyer to make a lasting impression on Hicks.

Nelson

Another site also has ‘Mr. Aggie’ Nelson interested in switching to Texas, but we probably won’t talk to him unless we miss on the others due to the numbers crunch

Kines Retirement

may also play a role in Nelson’s situation.
