"important playmaker for Texas injured"
Was anybody listening to the the Morning Rush on 104.9FM (ESPN radio) in Austin this morning? They interviewed Chip Brown (himself an afternoon radio host on the same station). Chip mentioned that although the news had been kept quiet so far, he knew that an "important playmaker" for the Texas football team had injured himself this week. "It'll become more clear to the fans as we approach gametime." Chip didn't reveal the player's name, out of respect for "his source." Chip concluded by saying that he expected Texas to overcome the injury and beat Nebraska nonetheless.
Does anybody have any idea who Chip was talking about?

Just notied that
GoBR mentioned Chip’s interviews in his “5 things to watch” post.
I’d hate for it to be Shipley…he’s got a shot at the Biletnikoff if he torches the husker secondary.
Statesman reports what Mack/UT info folks tell them
If a Statesman reporter KNOWS a player is on crutches and out, and the school says otherwise, they’ll print what the school says.
Chip is sharp. Not all reporters are — he is.
Shipley
I heard turftoe. No idea on the credibility of the source or how bad…
I hate when reporters do that
If you can’t tell us who you’re talking about, then keep your mouth shut. We’re all a little old for “I know something you don’t know.”

Didn't this happen earlier in the season
someone said they say either colt or shipley walking around in a boot after a game. think I remember hearing something to that effect.

Players wear boots a lot though
I saw a picture of Adam Ulatoski in a boot on Mack’s site during the week before the Kansas game, but he still played. It could be a precautionary measure to prevent further damage from everyday activities. It doesn’t necessarily mean someone has a serious injury that will keep them off the field. Sometimes people just need something to talk about. Reporters, in particular, cannot seem to help themselves.
Barking Carnival reporting
“We go into the game with mostly favorable match-ups and we’re relatively healthy with the only guys limited being Aaron Williams and Jordan Shipley. Yeah, apparently it’s a we’re-not-quite-sure-how-serious case of turf toe. He’s going to start but if he comes out during the course of the game our chances of victory slip to slightly above average.”

I swear Shipley disappeared late in the Kansas game...
He didn’t participate in any of the senior celebrations… maybe because he’d already done it two or three times, but still… I hope this isn’t a flare up of whatever happened then.

That Guy
I feel like this is a reference to that New Mexico State (or whatever school) player a few years back that opted to have his pinky finger removed rather than undergo season ending surgery to repair a tendon.
The one quote I recall: “It’s much harder now to hold a fistful of M&Ms, other than that nothing much is different.”
More specifically,
Ronnie Lott had a pinkie lopped in order to play.

I believe it was a school in Colorado
that was Division 1AA or 2. He was an offensive lineman.

I think this is pure gamesmanship
to get Coach Pelini over thinking his odds. Not even a broken back or motorcycle accident would keep Shipley out of this game.
BTW, watching the Bo Pelini show on Fox Sports. I swear he and Mike Leach must be brothers. I have never heard or seen a more bland personality on TV. He did “elude” to Big XII officials and their tendancy to not call holding or chop blocks on his prized DL bulls. “Something was going on the backfield.” LMAO

Really?
Mike Leach bland? I think he has a monotone voice, but his personality is anything but bland. In fact, the media eats up his loony pirate schtick.
Mike Leach is freaking hilarious
I love that guy. He’s far from bland.
You’re probably thinking of Mike Sherman.

Every time I hear the words "Shipley" and "injured" in the same sentence
I start to worry.

Shipley played in one of Burnet's title games
with infected turf toes on both both feet. He had to go to the hospital after the game to have both toenails removed.
HOWEVER he played the whole game both ways, almost never coming out, and caught a TD and had a TD-saving INT.
I thought he was walking a little bowlegged that night. Plus this was at the Alamodome before the new carpet…just an old, worn down rag of a carpet over concrete…horrible surface for turf toe. Tough, tough kid.
uh
I’m thinking you don’t know what turf toe is. It is impossible to have an ‘infected’ turf toe. Turf toe is the name given to a condition caused by putting all of your weight on a toe, usually your big toe, while playing. It received its name because the condition often happened when players got their feet snagged in artificial turf and tried to keep running, putting all of their weight on that toe, hence ‘turf toe’.
Sounds to me like you are talking about ingrown toe nails, which are a completely different issue.
It was turf toe, which became infected.
I’ve had one and if it persisted the swelling of the tissue around the nail can get infected. Thanks, doctor.
