Why do I feel sick this morning?

It has been exactly one year since I last posted but I have, in no way, stopped paying attention.  Last night, as Hunter was iced, I found my heart racing as I sat on my daughters beanbag telling myself, "it's just a game"....right!  He made the kick, I jumped up and down, ball game over.  And then reality set in.  I had a sick feeling in my gut.

1) we played horrible offense but the Huskers played great Defense and I do mean with a capital D.

2) Our defense was awesome last night.

3) Honestly, I could care less if Colt wins the Heisman at this point.  I bet he would tell you the same thing. (does my mere mention of this contradict that last statement? It would be nice but not necessary.)

4) Why do I feel like I didn't recognize the team wearing white last night?

5) Where do we go from here?

The game is over now.  The Horns and the staff will take a rest and celebrate our Lord's birthday, look at the game tape and fix mistakes, start breaking down Bama, and ultimately move on...but...we played like crap and I will have this taste in my mouth for the next 32 days until kickoff in Pasadena.  Maybe that's a good thing.

This morning, I woke up and started reading the bad press about how nothing is for certain, should we go to Pasadena, Colt lost the Heisman, we're gonna get run over, etc, etc.

This leaves me scratching my head and wondering... what now?  Suh lived in the Longhorn backfield all night.  Colt wasn't bad Colt but he wasn't good Colt either.  Kirkendoll shouldn't have dropped that pass...sure... but that's one play, what about the others where we didn't even have a chance.  My hat's off to Nebraska Defense they deserve it, but so does our Defense.  Tip of the hat to Hunter, without him, we are somewhere else and Mack was right when he said good teams find a way to win.  Yes, they do indeed, Coach.

I'm gonna get over this feeling today and move on....we are going to Pasadena and will get a chance to play for the BCS Championship against a great Alabama team.  I can't wait for my stomach to feel normal again.

Merry Christmas, God Bless and Hook Em!

Drink some egg nog with Bailey's

as that will help with the queasy stomach. Listen, a W is a W. Our defense and special teams rocked Nebraska last night. And our offense found a way to squeeze out a few key plays in the game to gain the field position necessary to put one more point on the board than the Huskers did.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Archangel Gabriel is blowing his horn.

Colt was bad

he held the ball way too long at times, and he should of thrown the ball away instead of taking sack like he did for losses. He had a bad game, but he has one more left to make up for it. The last INT wasn’t his fault though.

Texas will hear for a month how great Alabama is and how bad Alabama will beat Texas. Texas will have a ton of motivation just like in 2005. Texas will be ready.

Last INT

Was a little low and behind Buckner which gave the NU player the chance to make an amazing INT.

Yes........

Texas is NOW the underdog for the MNC once again…….at the Rose Bowl. This team will thrive under this scenario……and GD and the offense has done well previously with a month to prepare.
No Heisman for Colt…..but that’s fine….no Heisman Jinx (maybe that goes to Bama’s RB now??)
I like it!!

me too

and props to GD – he has historically prepared very well for bowl games. Since ’01?

third INT

The last int was absolutely catchable. Buckner had two hands on the ball before the DB got one hand on it. To have a DB take the ball away from a receiver with any size is humiliating. I saw this as a fumble, not an INT. Buckner had it, the DB took it away. Should NEVER happen.

Also, Kirkendoll didn’t catch anything. What was up with that?

When that last ball went sailing through the uprights

I didn’t celebrate, didn’t jump up (not once), didn’t say a word, didn’t even raise my hands to signal “good.” All I could do was exhale, relieved that the ordeal was finally over.

A new ordeal begins today. It will last about one month, but I don’t think it will compare to the one we endured last night.

Heisman voters are laughable anyway

I don’t see this trophy as credible anymore. Ever since the BCS, and especially the last few years. The Heisman leaders every year come from one of the teams in the National Championship Game. Back when Ricky Williams and Ron Dane won the trophy their teams weren’t in the running for the National Championship. They won the award from carrer rushing numbers. Colt has the carrer Wins and pass completion percentage records. There is precedent there for career achievement’s. If we look back at past Heisman winners, I would say most of them have came from teams who didn’t win the National Championship. I would love to see Colt win the award but don’t see it as credible voting anymore and players in the past that haven’t won it have seemd to be better for it. The BCS system has influenced the way heisman voters have voted.

I see Ingram getting it then losing in the National Championship game with Colt having something to prove like when Vince got shafted for a running back in 2005 then came out in the Rose Bowl game and played better then the player who won it.

If Davis calls the game like he did last night...

be prepared for humiliation on the biggest stage. The offensive line was atrocious and clock management was nonexistent. At least the Horns have a month to get it together. Hopefully we can get it together by then.

We cannot let our offensive game plan get swept under the rug.....

If the Bama defense we saw yesterday shows up in Pasadena, we are in serious trouble. Bama’s defense yesterday was better, much better, than Nebraska. What gives me hope are two things…..first both Auburn (7-5) and Tennessee (7-5) made Alabama look silly for 59 minutes. Which bama defense shows up is maybe a question….but I would count on the one we saw yesterday. That said, GDs offensive game plans against good defenses (OU & Neb) was terrible.
Saban’s planning will be even more disguised and shutdown. WE HAVE GOT TO FIGURE OUT ADJUSTMENTS THAT WORK QUICKLY.

The second thing that gives me hope is that the Heisman Race will be over, and this, I believe, is going to help Colt cut loose and perform at his full potential. I really believe all the sliding and missed throws (after interceptions) were a result of him wanting the Heisman badly.

Last nights game will help us against Bama….they naturally have to think its going to be a fun game for them. I trust Coach Boom to be ready…..I don’t know what we can do to be ready offensively….We need some new thinking.

Can't get enough of that cowbell !!!

Auburn made the Bama D look silly

In the first quarter, but that was it. Auburn’s only other TD (in the 3rd quarter) was the result of a missed assignment.

Tennessee’s defense might have made Alabama’s offense look silly throughout, but their offense definitely did not. Remember, the final score was 12-10.

One thing that worries me about our defense is that Muschamp is a direct disciple of Saban; he will be aware of many of Boom’s tendencies.

I started to say that, but

Muschamp has to prepare exclusively for Alabama’s offense. He will probably share what he knows of Saban’s defensive tendencies with Greg Davis, but they’re both going to be primarily worried about their own responsibilities. As the head coach, Saban is in a position to swivel that “all-seeing eye of Sauron” of his in all directions at his own discretion.

We do have Applewhite, but his one year in Tuscaloosa was spent shackled somewhere in the bowels of Bryant-Denny Stadium. Don’t know how much help he’ll really be in the tendencies department.

But you are correct; Saban and Muschamp definitely have a bond, and that bond absolutely runs both ways. I’ve had a blast watching both of these defenses play the last two years, primarily because they’re both similar in their approaches and tendencies – not to mention the tremendous athletes. It’s going to be fun watching the teacher and the former apprentice lock horns (pun intended).

I can relate to your sick feeling

I cannot recall a single other game we have ever won over a quality opponent, after which I somehow felt we lost it. I guess it was just that our offense that looked so awsome against A&M did almost nothing. The announcers mentioned that the Nebraska defenders seemed to know exactly what routes the Horn receivers were going to run. Is that the problem? Are we that predictable? Were they stealing our signals? Was Colt just having a bad night? Or we just not as good offensively as we all thought? Guess we’ll find out against Alabama.
