Around SBN: Bracketology 2012: Duke Finally Steps Up To The No. 1 Line

The first good news of the day leading up to the official selection show later -- the Longhorns moved up to second in the Coaches' Poll, in front of TCU and Cincinnati, with Florida dropping to fifth.

Correction: Texas remains at second in the poll. Either way, good news. --GoBR--

We actually stayed at number 2, no??

Can’t wait to see how the coaches voted.

by junglerules on Dec 6, 2009 2:13 PM CST reply actions

Nebraska actually moved up one spot

That makes us look good, too. Our near-loss was to a ranked team, unlike Bama’s defensive struggle against fake UT.

by LonghornEm on Dec 6, 2009 2:30 PM CST reply actions

How was Bama’s defensive struggle against a “fake” UF last night? el oh el.

More importantly, how was yours against a weak Nebraska?

See you in Pasadena. Tell McCoy to actually show up, please.

How would your way even make sense? Thanks for stopping by, though. Fake UT = Tennessee. Real UT = Texas.

Texas was already #2

AP was the only poll to have Texas at #3. That chaned this week as AP voted Alabama #1 with a ll but two first place votes and Texas at #2 with the remaining first place votes.

Harris also had UT at #2 entering this week. It was the computers that were causing UT to be #3 in the actual BCS rankings. That will change now due to Florida’s loss.

by Lincoln on Dec 6, 2009 3:19 PM CST reply actions

money money money

unbelievable, Texas earns #2 spot with 1 sec 1 point over mediocre Nebraska! It’s all about money and ESPN hype. money money money… If TCU had UT money – TCU would be playing Jan. 7. College Football has been completely corrupted by ESPN and greed,

by ppk on Dec 6, 2009 3:24 PM CST reply actions

I'll admit it

I didn’t watch TCU’s game yesterday. I’d love to watch it so I can feel better informed, but I don’t see it anywhere on the ESPN360 archives or even on YouTube. Does anyone know where I can review TCU’s game from yesterday where they were able to strengthen further their schedule by beating a ranked team for their BCS-member conference’s championship?

Got to give them credit. They sure have done well as members of the WAC, then Conference USA, and now the Mountain West. Greg Davis’ play calling would struggle to rival all that lateral movement.

by Lincoln on Dec 6, 2009 3:55 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Money?

If TCU is so upset about not getting the opportunity to play for the title, they can drop down and play in the FCS. Of course they do not do that, why? They want the money that comes with the FBS. For anyone to make a case for TCU based on money seems disingenuous.

by silky51 on Dec 6, 2009 3:43 PM CST up reply actions

Didn't that get settled already?

A far from experienced Holiday Bowl Texas team beat that ass not two years ago. I wish Texas would schedule TCU again so this could be settled.

If TCU played somebody besides Utah and BYU they might get more consideration. I wish Mack would schedule some home and home with the Frogs to stop this crap.

no matter what conference u play in, i believe that an undefeated team should be ranked ahead of a 1 loss team in any situation, even if it were texas.

How is Iowa

Still 2 spots below a Penn State team that Iowa beat on the road? I actually like Iowa, and more particularly Kirk Ferentz. I hope Iowa gets the empty Fiesta spot.

Because Iowa is a much weaker team now

They were much better with their third-string RB and first-string QB than with their fourth- and second-string of same.

Bama is no better than Texas

Bama squeaked by Tenn at home with a 12-10 win against a 7-5 team. They also barely squeaked by last week against a 7-5 Auburn team.

This Texas hating is nonsense. We are as deserving as any other team, this year and last year.

I think we will beat Bama.

by Wrangler86 on Dec 6, 2009 5:40 PM CST reply actions

To give them credit, Auburn is a rivalry of sorts

Rivalries always are a bit janky when you’re trying to compare teams because each team is trying to play their best ball of the season.

TEXAS FIGHT

by Darklust on Dec 6, 2009 10:28 PM CST up reply actions

That's true with Auburn.

Not really the case with Bama-Tenn, though. That was their equivalent of UT-NU, although I think there were enough blown calls in Bama’s favor that game that the Tide deserves more criticism for that game than UT does for the NU game. It won’t happen, though. Ess Eee See.

For whatever its worth...Texas moved up to #2 in the AP Poll

I know it is not used for BCS but it is encouraging.

JS poll has us 5, just like last week. No change.

by KingMack on Dec 6, 2009 6:01 PM CST reply actions

what was wrong with our O last night

Our WRs have got to step up, run better routes to get open, and catch the passes when they are on target! Our run was working with Tre’ Newton, but we went away from it for no apparent reason.

Is this pathetic showing Greg Davis’ fault? I saw a lot of drops and coverage sacks.

by Wrangler86 on Dec 6, 2009 6:09 PM CST reply actions

It was a combination of poor O-Line blocking and play calling on runs

Nebraska did this all night:
Rush 4 DL, drop 7 -or
-Rush 4 DL, Safety Blitz, 6 in coverage

Their LB’ers filled gaps well, and 90% of Newton’s runs were stretched out of the zone read. He never made the cut up inside because there weren’t any holes open. Very little misdirection (which Suh stayed home and blew up the play for a 4 yard loss), and no jet sweeps were used as well. GD did nothing to confuse the Defense or at least keep them honest. Very depressing.

Get off your knees Greg, you're blowin' the game.

by kriess on Dec 6, 2009 6:16 PM CST up reply actions

There isn't an OC in the country

that could game plan with the way our line played last night. There was not enough time for any type of play to develop. Complete failure or in Mack’s words “They just whipped us.” If I were looking to place blame on the staff I would start with McWhorter. For two years now we’ve had to deal with this and it’s not improving. They are constantly confused and out of position and that, my friends, is poor coaching.

Cincy didn't really outplay Pitt imo

They got some lucky breaks in the end to come back from way down. I don’t think Cincy is any big deal. But, I also don’t think TCU is either.

I wonder if Tebow & Co. roll over or if they bring it. Should be an interesting match up that could be a blow out either way.

Well

I go to ND (law school), so I don’t share the antipathy to the school that most people on this site seem to. That, and growing up Catholic. I’m liking Kelly more and more as our guy.

by LonghornEm on Dec 7, 2009 3:12 PM CST up reply actions

I guess that's what I didn't like about ND

The thing about so many of my Catholic friends feeling like they should root for ND because they were Catholic. I honestly have no problem with people who are fans because they went there, or who grew up in ND families. I didn’t go to UT, unfortunately, but I did grow up in a Texas family (father’s side, at least).

by burntorangehorn on Dec 7, 2009 3:18 PM CST up reply actions

It's a dream school for so many

I considered going here for UG, but chose Texas instead because of distance and money (and am happy I did!). But I’ve gotten a sense, at least among my circle of friends, that it’s a school that you dream about going to and and are still emotionally connected to. I had lots of hardcore Catholic friends at UT who had seriously considered ND and would still cheer on the Irish because they still loved the school. I do know of people who just like it because they’re Catholic and never had any real shot or desire to actually go there, and I agree, that I don’t understand so much.

by LonghornEm on Dec 7, 2009 3:33 PM CST up reply actions

true, Cincy didn't really outplay Pitt

but defeating a top 20 team on the road in what essentially was the Big East championship game should, IMO, jump them over an idle TCU.
