Dear GD: Please Read For Solutions Against OU/NE Defense Scheme
Obviously, 'Bama is going to focus on replicating the defense schemes that OU and Nebraska did with great success against us, so since GD apparently has no answers, maybe ideas from Burnt Orange Nation will save the day, let's here 'em! My ideas after the jump
Our O-line is our weak link on the team no doubt but i would like to see more screens to newton or those shovel passes that punish the D-line for overpursuing into the backfield. The couple of shovel passes to newton against Nebraska seemed to work
and what happened to the jet sweep play that was used so much earlier on in the year? We have to make 'Bama's D line move more side to side to wear them out instead of having them solely focus on taking Mc'Coy's head off.
Next, it seemed Nebraska played alot of DB's instead of linebackers which helped them take away the short dinky passes that UT loves to do. I'm not sure, but somehow someway we need to get the ball WAY more to Williams and Goodwin to stretch the field and hopefully as the game goes on, this will open the game up more for Shipley to work. These deep pass attempts saved us multiple times against NE b/c they resulted in pass interference calls.
i have no confidence in kirkendoll anymore... everytime a pass goes his way, i am "surprised" he catches it...which is not a good reaction for a starting receiver.
lastly, Colt has to run period more. If he can get roughly 100 yards against 'Bama, then i like our chances

Man, is Alabama worried about their offense against our defense?

Shipley
put him into motion every play. It will confuse the defense even if the play isn’t to Shipley.
If Texas runs the ball, run north and south not east and west.
) Wheel route!!!!! Arrrrgggghhh!!!
Oh and that PA pass to EBS back in the first part of the season worked well.
I think very early on we will know if we need to be gimmicky or not. Now if GD reacts properly or not is the question.
I somewhat understand him staying conservative in the big XII game because we had something to lose. Not really the case in this, the last game of the year
Oh and please kick the ball into the endzone so arenas doesn’t go DJ Monroe on us

Spend a month learning how to pass block
problem solved
If you're so sure of what it ain't, how about telling us what it am!
O-line
O-line’s gotta hold for the longer plays to work. Nebraska’s DL was already on Colt before the DB’s even made their cut.
If they want to flood the backfield with DB’s instead of LB’s, maybe split the WR’s wide, so there’s nothing in the middle for Newton or Colt to run up the gut. If we can get past the front line, there should be an easy 10 yard gain that we can hit all day until they adjust. Counter runs, pulling guards, misdirecton plays….runing with Tre has potential.
We might have to use Shipley as decoy and/or bait….either he’ll occupy (2) DB’s or he’ll bait them into jumping his route. Of course, this means one (or preferably a heck of a lot more) WR’s will have step up and catch the ball. Shipley in motion? Sounds like a good idea a long coming…may have to keep waiting unfortunately. GD doesn’t seem to prefer motion.
We all assumed Texas would win the Big XII. Maybe GD didn’t want to reveal anything to Florida/Alabama.
The pride and winning tradition of The University of Texas will not be entrusted to the weak or the timid.

I agree on motion not happening
Someone posted a SmartFootball article recently about how simple offenses are absolutely necessary in college since four (and in many cases, three) years with a rotating cast of characters makes it hard to implement more difficult schemes, such as timing-important motion plays.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but Monroe was the only one we’ve run in the jet sweep… so there goes our very little experience with it.
Then again, it’s obvious this team can learn fast – that was the second time we’ve brought out the shovel pass, wasn’t it? (But, then again – again – how well did Alabama defend the shovel pass in their win over Florida?)
Correct, Goodwin already had taken the job over
before Monroe when on a late night drive.
It works better with Goodwin because we don’t have to tip our hand with a specific substitution package.
Hurry Up
I’m a big fan of using the hurry up on Alabama, they will get too tired out from it, and if our offense needs to move the ball late, this will be a huge advantage
Yeah, but the hurry up is predicated on actually moving the ball
When you’ve only got 17 first downs (compared to 26 against A&M) and 202 yards (versus 597), the hurry-up isn’t going to help you out much, especially against a TOP-dominant team.
Tre up the gut
I think we should run Tre Newton directly into Mt. Cody for a 0.5 yd gain at least 12 times. That really worked well against Nebraska.
I'm starting a fund
To help get flu-ridden hookers immediate emergency scholarships to ’Bama.
Care to donate?
No, but I would donate to the cause.

GD needs to use this month to call more plays from undercenter with more cody johnson dive plays to keep the defense honest, then work the playaction…our advantage is that bama doesnt have the d-line nebraska does and they wont take their lb’s out for db’s cause lb is their strong point on defense, which allows for shipley to match with mclain across the middle
All I want for Christmas is for Texas to move to the SEC and destroy those overrated chumps!!!

Might as well quickkick
Because dive plays will play to Bama’s strength. Bama’s dline can stop the run better than anybody.
So, all McCoy has to do is run for 100 yards? Easy, right?
That isn’t going to happen, and if we are relying on Colt to run the ball like that, he’s going to take too many shots to be effective late in the game (see Nebraska and OU where he was flustered late in the games).
Did you see the way Alabama took away Florida’s tight end screen pass that demolished every other opponent on their schedule? A shovel pass to Tre is not going to be the solution to beating their defense, the solution is to use Cody Johnson as much as humanly possible to run right at that defense and keep them on their heels. We aren’t going to outrun that defense, Tre isn’t even athletic enough to do that.
Do you honestly....
…. believe our OL can keep Alabama’s defense “on their heals?”

We need more CJ...
There is absolutely no excuse for Greg Davis to not have utilized Cody Johnson more during the Big 12 Championship game. He could have picked up the rush better and could have been used to pound a little between the tackles vs. the off-tackle stuff UT was running. Moreover, the last three plays of the game should have been Cody up the middle and we might have been kicking from the 18 instead of the 30…
Hook ’em!
He was the only shot I thought we had
At a RB who could break a one-handed grab by Suh.
Suh could grab Newton by the scruff and haul him back, which I think CJ might have broken some of those.
Applewhite
I think he could play a huge role in preparing an offensive game plan for this game. I hope the Major can offer up some Ideals to GD about what can work offensively against Bama’s D. He should at least know some of their tendencies and weaknesses.
Cody Johnson
Agreed with all the points about CJ… the last three plays of the game in particular should have been our short yardage package running CJ three straight times. I’m sure we would have gained a few yards and not LOSE yards and have to endure Colt running for his life in the backfield.
