Super Bowl: Replay of UT games
I just finished watching the Super Bowl like the rest of you burntorange guys and gals and I watched a replay of UT and Texas Tech as well as UT-Ohio State games. Arizona had bad time management. They scored too early and were unable to protect their lead. The first half was reminiscent of Texas- Texas Tech game. If only they had not had the lapse on the goal line at the end of the first half they could have gone in and scored a touch down and taken a 14-10 half time or the least a 10-10 tie. No, they had to have a crazy interception that led to the Steelers scoring and making it a 17-7 halftime.
Instead of that last drive that led to a score with 2 minutes left they should have marched down and scored with 20 seconds left.
Oh well, Texas revisited!!
Is that Santonio Holmes related to Priest Holmes?

i was for the cards...
but now 3 more longhorns have super bowl rings
Ian Johnson gets on one knee.
Sam Bradford gets on both.
Did Sweed even make an appearance on the field?
I did not hear his name all game.
Then again, I was only really paying attention to the commercials.
I have to give credit to the Cardinals for coming back. That Harrison 100 yard TD had back-breaker written all over it, and yet Arizona took the lead at the very end.

OKAY...enough with this time management talk...
This time management thing has gotten way out of control. Come on now. What was Fitzgerald supposed to do? Fall down and not score that touchdown?
Repeatedly, the cardinals DLs and LBs were UNABLE to wrap up Roethlisberger (who looked like a fat kid running around in a candy store). Sure, you would like to give them less than 3 minutes to score, but does that ALWAYS happen? probably not. Ultimately, the game came down to defense stepping up. Cardinals defense did not.
I bet you wouldve liked McGee to fall on the ground and not score that TD. Sure, Colt not running down the game clock to single digits kinda cost us that game, but ultimately, we did not play good defense on that last drive, fail to wrap up Harrell, and did not catch that sure interception.
Stop blaming the time mangement…it is quite overrated.

AGREED 100%
A score is never a given thing. When you’re behind, you score by any means necessary. This clock management thing was invented by fans who are upset that their team lost. End of story.
OU SUCKS!!!!!!
Gotta agree. If you're angling for a FG, then you have some leeway.
Being a TD down means you take what you can get when you get it.
I thought the call on the slant pass by the Cardinals was not a wise call. They’d already used that play several times in the first half. Pittsburgh was sitting on it. They should have called something at the corners or back of the end zone. So, in my mind part of that goes more to play calling than the actual pass itself, which was a little inside.
I would have to disagree hookem..
Remember in the UT-osu game, Ohio State was within 15 yards of a TD and it was first and 10. The score was 15-17 UT on top with about 2:15 left. Now if OSU would have played it smart they could have milked the clock to around the minute mark and either kick a fg or get the first down and possibly a touchdown and would have been up either way. But with that touchdown they let Colt have his way in the 2-minute drill. Now you can’t tell me that time management could’ve of been done better by OSU to win that game. Just my 2c.

I wasn’t trying to upset people by bringing back memories of seasons past, however I was trying to show the similarities of the games. Texas did learn a valuable lesson which I’m sure will play vital role in future games. I guess the players at Arizona were more concerned about the season at hand than looking back at college football. Too bad for them. They have to learn the lesson the hard way.
"When you pass, three things can happen and two are bad", DKR, why he chose to run instead of pass.
This time management stuff is nonsense
in hindsight it’s easy to say, “Oh we left too much time on the clock” or something but really you should take a TD when you get it because nothing is certain. Who knows maybe an int is thrown or a fumble happens or you’re stopped on 4th down and then you’ll look back and think “We should have scored.”

That's ok. If you take it early, be prepared to defend it!

Big difference...
between Texas snapping the ball with 15-20 seconds on the plau clock when we were grinding our way down the field against Tech and Arizona scoring on a 60 yard TD pass. Texas could’ve milked another ~40 seconds off of the clock just by snapping the ball with 5 seconds on the play clock. I don’t think Kurt Warner was expecting to go the the whoel way in one play. e was still trying to get down the field. Nothing different Zona could have done (except stop the Steelers on defense).
That wasn't bad time management.
Its one thing if they were driving down the field for the game winning TD. That was the second play of the drive and it was no guarantee they would have punched in from the redzone. The Tech game was poor time management, but this wasn’t.
SHOW ME YOUR LIGHTNING BOLT!!!!!!!!!!
bad clock managemen????
I would describe it more like the Cardinals forgot to put 11 guys on defense on the last series. Seriously…..were those guys from some directional institute of technology?!?!? You can’t sit back playing prevent defense and then let them move the ball any which way they please. How about putting two guys on Holmes?!?! He beat the Cards single-handed.
Cards had chances…..the defense on that last series just might have been the worst I have ever seen. Heck…..I think the Detroit Lions could have scored against that defense.
Apples and oranges
You can’t compare the Cardinals game management to ours. We had multiple mistakes. Not only did we score too early, but Colt ran out of bounds before the score when he should’ve tried to stay inbounds to drain clock.
More importantly, we’re talking about scoring against the Steelers defense vs the Tech defense. You KNEW Texas was going to score on that final drive, it was only a matter of when. You can never assume you’d get a TD against the Steelers in a goal-line stand situation. Fitzgerald did the right thing in scoring when he had the chance.
